Went here with the family in tow as the previous reviews made this place a hidden gem. Well from my experience it was not. We ordered the following. 2 shrimp and pork wonton soup, one satay beef , one chicken with vegetables and one spicy chicken with vegetables. The wonton was $5.80 while the other dishes were $5.99 which came with soup and rice The dishes were okay, nothing special. The thing that was disappointing was that the chicken or beef dishes had more (filler) vegetables ie onions and broccoli that meat. There was like 8 pieces of vegetables to small piece of meat ratio. The flavor was lack luster, as they were more concern of getting the meals out than quality control. The wonton soup's broth had a weird aftertaste to it. And it was also too salty for my liking. I guess I should not expect much for the price, yet I have eaten at several other Chinese restaurants and received better value. I guess this restaurant is trying to cater to the Western palate. Will pass on this restaurant whenever I am craving for Chinese food.
This was one of the best Japanese places in Surrey. The girls and I were regular customers and they knew us by name and what we usually ordered. The service was always fast and the food was always great. Sadly, Akashi Ya has closed it's doors in 2013. The owners decided to retired and had no plans to open anywhere. Still on the lookout for one just as great. There are a lot of mediocre places out there but none as great as Akashi Ya (sigh!)
We were delighted to discover that on Mon & Tues, seniors can have two meals for $17 plus the cost of two beverages. We ordered Liver & Onions and Fish & Chips, with two orders of hot tea. The portion sizes were adequate given that desserts were included in the deal, the food was hot and the service efficient and friendly.
The dine-in and take out food is exceptional here! We have always had fantastic service too! Vic has always greeted us and taken care of us like we are friends joining him for dinner. His staff is always on top of every step of our meal. This cozy restaurant has a very comfortable decor and is very affordable.
The steak, souvlaki, calamari and pizza are some of our favorite dishes. We have never been disappointed with our meal. Great presentation and portions too.
We love this restaurant so much that we are planning on having a Christmas party here with friends this year!
Bring your family and friends! You will not be disappointed!
Came here to try the brisquet noodle soup and see what this place was like. Ordered the beef noodle and a bowl of chicken ball noodle soup. Bad on both counts why they cant flovot the brooths is beyond me tasted like hot water over noodles and meat and vegtables thrown I in. Could have made way better at home as for the lack of service the waitress was treating us like the plague, and was less then helpful. Bad time had here and will never go back too bad so very sad.
I found my new favorite coffee shop. The inside seating area is small, but it just makes it feel like home. Cosy, and comfortable. Best coffee in Surrey, best service. I never had grumpy service, they all smile and are quick to serve my friends and I. I have been here many times with both friends and family and at different times throughout the week. Love it. Don't change a thing.
It has been awhile since l was last here and l remember it being a decent place but after reading some of the negative reviews l was a bit saddened to read how it went down. l finally had the chance to check it out myself and was actually quite pleasantly surprised!
The sashimi was fresh the rolls perfect and the other foods like the chicken karaage, Ike karaage, spring rolls Etc was just absolutely awesome!
I'm not sure what some people expect but for an AYCE this place is great.
The interior maybe abit dated but the food is anything but.
The service was great as well, the servers were very kind and attentive.
Will definitely be coming back here very soon.
Good food. Decent service. The suede chairs were oversized and super cozy. Food arrived in a timely manner. Our server was busy running around attending to other diners that it took awhile for him to clear our plates. I was not in a hurry so did not mind. I think it is a good late night option as well as I saw many diners stopping by for drinks or food.
This place is well hidden as others have commented. Once you’re inside the room itself is lovely and they have a nice patio area outside. The inside room is well lit and it has nice high ceilings. It’s very nice decorated. When we were here for dinner on Sunday it was very quiet. We arrived for dinner at 6:00 and when we left at 7:30 there were no other customers. I think that they were going to close early.
Our server Alex was terrific. He obviously enjoys his job very much and was very helpful and knowledgeable. He was always there when you needed help or had questions but the rest of the time he left you alone. He offered to let us sample a wine to decide if we wanted a full glass. We shared the prawn appetizer of the day. They were magnificent. The prawns were very fresh and it was simply prepared with garlic butter, smoked paprika and chili flakes. They were served with slices of lightly toasted baguettes. It was a truly outstanding dish. My husband had the special of the day – roast prime rib au jus served with perfectly cooked Yorkshire pudding, baked potato and salad. The prime rib was cooked exactly as my husband had requested and it was a very flavourful tender cut of beef. I had the osso buco. It was good but it was not one of the better osso buco’s that I’ve had. It came with the same salad that accompanied my husband’s entrée and polenta. I have to say that I did not like the polenta at all. I found it very heavy. Neither one of us cared for the salad. I think I heard Alex tell another table that it had hearts of palm (not a fan of hearts of palm). For dessert we shared an order of cookies and cream. This was 2 large chocolate cookies topped with vanilla ice cream and chocolate drizzle. It was delicious. Alex had graciously had it divided in 2 before it was brought to the table.
It was a lovely evening and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Beautiful restaurant, amazing service, better than average food for the most part and fair prices.
We’ll be back. I just wouldn’t order the osso buco again.
This drive thru is fast. I come here at least 3 times a week. They always have my order waiting for me. Huge selection of bagels, and breakfast items. There oatmeal is great, as their bagels. My coffee is always perfect. They even put a smile on my lid, great start to my day.
Recently went to the Ocean Park & Village Pub for lunch and were very disappointed. I ordered the quesadilla and I have to say it was the worst one I have ever had. It was supposed to be a chicken quesadilla but had almost no chicken in it. Instead, it was full of congealed, greasy cheese and virtually no vegetables. Very bad! My husband had a pizza and said it was okay - certainly not great. I have had their spanakopita before and it was mediocre as well. Very disappointing - the food here has really gone down hill. Also, the tables are crammed so closely together, it is difficult to enjoy a conversation or, at times, find room to get up to go to the washroom.
We have been wanting to try out the Tudor Ale house for a while so took the opportunity to visit for lunch recently. The interior is nicely done and it wasn't as loud as many pub/restaurants are. There were three of us - we ordered Italian Flat Bread, Meatloaf and the Crispy Chicken Caesar Wrap. The person who ordered the flat bread said it was really good - it's the second time he has ordered it and he really enjoyed it. The meatloaf was a disappointment - the texture was strange and it was quite bland. The Crispy Chicken Caesar Wrap was good but not great - a little too much lettuce for my liking. The service was very good and friendly. We will definitely go back and try some different menu items as there are certainly lots of choices.
Sheila's Bistro and Lounge is a fairly new addition to the South Surrey restaurant scene. Because it is very close to where we live we happened by it and decided to try it. Parking is a bit of a problem because it is located in a business complex but the inside is bright, clean and cheerful. Unfortunately, because of the lack of any soft surface treatments, it is extremely loud if it is a busy day. Also the menu is extremely limited. We were very surprised there they do not have any soup choices for lunch and some of the other items were not very appealing. There were three of us and we actually had trouble finding something we wanted to eat. Some of the menu items are a bit pretentious. Two of us had the fish tacos which were pretty good but certainly not great. The other person had the special of the day which was prawns and chips. She said the prawns were pretty good. The best part of the meal was their home made potato chips - not fries but thin, crispy potato chips. They were delicious and are quite addictive. The place has a lot of promise but all three of us felt they will really have to work on their menu. There are simply not enough choices for us to return very often.
Service was excellent though!
We have been to The Derby on a few occasions and have always enjoyed it. I went yesterday with two other women and we had a great lunch. Both of my dining companions had the soup and sandwich special which is a great deal at $6.50. One had the potato soup with a BLT and said the BLT was the best she has ever had and she really enjoyed the soup as well. The other had the chicken rice soup which she said was really good and a grilled cheese sandwich which she also enjoyed. I had the Saratoga pizza and it was delicious! We also shared an order of onion rings which were also very good.
This is nice, casual little place with good, fresh food and very solid service. It is lively enough to have a good ambiance but quiet enough for conversation. We love the fact that all of their burgers provide for a choice of beef burger, chicken, salmon or a veggie burger. It's very difficult to get a decent fish burger of any kind and theirs are really good.
We will definitely be going back and are planning to try dinner there soon!
First impressions: This place is small, I mean really small! There is no pretense though, they call themselves a Bistro, not a restaurant. Tasteful decorations too. :)
At first the menu appears a little limited. But when you look at it, there really is something for everyone. Everyone else had the Paneer with Curry. I had the Taco Salad. We also had the Artichoke & Spinach Dip to start.
I would come back just for the Artichoke & Spinach Dip alone! Really great flavour and texture - and served pipping hot!
When I watched what the staff was up to, food took a little longer to come, but it was all being made fresh! Everything was served hot off the stove.
And for a treat I had a Mango milkshake - which is to die for! Simply a MUST HAVE.
So Dinner for 4 with beverages and appys came to about $75 with tax - considering how fresh and delicious everything was, not bad at all!
And they were ready willing and able to accommodate special requests - I have a problem with green peppers and they substituted red & orange - no problem and with a smile. The staff are super friendly, and looking for suggestions on how they can do better.
Dinner was tasty, filling, and sat very well. Perfect blend of spicing left our taste buds dancing. :)
We left with our tummys and our hearts full! Definitely will be back!
My husband has been ordering pizza from this restaurant for 30 years. Since the new owners took over it has been going downhill.
Last night was HORRIBLE. The cheese is obviously a lower quality as it felt like plastic. There was no sauce on the pizza at all barely, and the crust was disgusting.
When I called to let them know, they did not seem to care whatsoever. Sadly we will not be returning to Venice. Good luck keeping your doors open with horrible customer service to loyal customers of 30 years and food that tastes like it is a year old.
Once a very solid choice for South Surrey. This is what happens when you get compliance and not keep up with the times . Food specials where terrible. Three of four ordered the special of the day [schnitzel] and the meat was old tasting and tough, the carrots cold , the portions very small. Thank gawd I wasn't paying. Gone down hill and will not recover ?
Considering it"s a fairly new location it is horrible! Huge lack of understanding proper english! They dont seem to understand the difference between a DD or a TT! They always repeat the wrong order and that includes the managers . Nothing is worse then having the wrong order first thing in the morning when you are trying to get to work. No matter how many times you repeat or complain it will never change. The owners of this location could do so much better if their staff was not so rude or stupid. I literally drive 15 minutes out of my way in the mornings to go to a different location. I dont know co-workers who continue to use this location . Sad part is that its a great location just terrible service. Horrible mangers !
The pizza is fantastic but be prepared for the worst customer service you will ever receive. We were told it would be 30 mins for our delivery, an hour & 15 mins later still no pizza so we called back. We were told that we were only the 2nd people to order & they wait for 5 orders before they start cooking the pizza. WTF! We asked for a discount & were told no way. Delivery guy showed up 5 mins later with the order. Told them I would tell everyone about their poor service & they didn't care about that either...
In the past this restaurant was a very special night out for us along with many visitors we've brought, offering culinary delights until last Sunday night. I ordered their weekly special, roast beef, assuming since that this is the weekly special this choice would be a perfected dish. Our server was very pleasant, friendly and upbeat so we where prepared for a wonderful food experience.
Sad to say when my roast beef arrived I noticed my Yorkshire pudding was burnt and after a taste confirmed it was uneatable. Next was the roast beef, it was very tough and the flavour did not make up for any toughness.
I can understand that perhaps this was an off night for the chef but the server, however friendly she was, never did ask us how our meal was. Even when she could see the uneaten Yorkshire pudding never inquired for the left food on the plate.
Our hope is that this past gem can somehow gain our confidence back.
