Went for lunch. Usually expect to get out for well under $10 for a lunch special at a sushi joint. Not here. All the sushi combos were at Least $9.95 however they did include miso soup. The bento boxes started at $11.95 I think with most being much more than that. They had a fair amount of food but still too much for many people for lunch both food and cost wise. They also charged for green tea and did not tell you that whne you ordered. I have never been charged for green tea before so it came out of her tip.
Restaurant looks like the strip mall is new, but is seems somehow a little old, and dirty inside, the smelly plastic fish pond doesn't help.
As I said the sushi was good and well made although the soy sauce tasted like cheap chinese stuff porued into a Kikoman bottle.
Not a huge fan of this place but might go sometime again if i wasn't paying!
We've been here a few times since we live in the area. Strange location, out of the way of anything else that would bring you to this area, so the reputation is what keeps people coming back. Consistently great food, service, ambiance, etc. The Ahi Tuna is outstanding. Would definitely recommend.
NEWS FLASH TO WHITE SPOT SENIOR MANAGEMENT!
This White Spot is a blemish on your otherwise improving reputation for good service and value. We visited this location iearly afternoon. The restaurant was nearly empty, yet it was a good three or four minutes before our server arrived. No water was brought to the table, until one in our party asked for it. The server was either having a bad day, or was a poor server. Indifferent and disinterested service. Food was good value, but the experience left much to be desirved. This store needs a major shake-up!
Love the burgers here, been coming for a while.
To those who complain about pink burgers, did you even read the signs about that being how they are served? The meat is fresh, the pink is no worry. This isn't White Spot.
Hope to see the new owners keep the place up to its nice juicy medium cooked burgers.
I walked into the restaurant for my first time and I noticed it looked very clean and the kitchen staff was not loud at all. The waitress let me sit where I wanted so I sat in a table that had two chairs. I ordered the #7 Pho. It had rare eye round steak and meatballs in it. The food came to the table in roughly 10-15 minutes, I took my first bite and oh my gosh it tasted so good. They put so much meat in the Pho too, the broth tasted so good. I ordered a side with spring rolls with it. When I finished the Pho I was so full. It was great Pho definitely worth coming back and paying $7.50 for a large bowl of Pho.
At 7:30pm , me and my friend came to chinaking dine in because we passed by and felt hungry. we are the only table there. we were suprised and oddness. The meal we ordered that wasnot hot enough.the meat and veggie wasnot very fresh. However,we didn't very enjoy the food, even though we felt hungry. At last when I paid the bill, I was feeling that I wasted money on the disquality food.
Of course it is not authentic Asian food but I get a bit tired of trying to find a reliable place that has consistently good food. At least here, you get what you expect. But I went to the Wok Box in New Westminster and really enjoyed it. I ordered something vegetarian with Udon noodles and there was lots of vegetables. The one in White Rock had very few veggies.
This place has been overhauled, the new owners have fully redone the place, it looks amazing and service and food quality is amazing. The food of course is top notch, Vancouvers best burgers after all. I had a Canuck burger with a pint of Lager while watching a whitecaps game on their big screen tv's. Nice dine in atmosphere now and the quality and service was first class.
I've taken to patronizing this place for the last six months or so, especially since they've made significant reductions in their menu prices. I've found the food to be very fresh, and the portions to be sizeable, especially the hwe dup bab, and the rolls.
when ordering takeout, usually you are given a complimentary crab cone, and a cup of tea if you are waiting.
the waitresses are friendly and accommodating, should you wish to have substitutions or alterations to your menu selection.
The ambiance of the restaurant is that of your usual sushi place, and a recent carpet replacement has spruced the place up.
I've been there probably 20 times, and with regards to the food i have yet to disappointed, and with regards to service, only once have I been disappointed with a waitress, who no longer works there.
Considering all of the variables, food, price, service, ambiance, this is one of the best japanese restaurants that I have visited in the (Langley, South Surrey) area.
My wife and I dropped by to have a quick dinner, we walked in and the restuarant was less than 1/4 full. Great we thought, we could get in and get out, as we had other things to do that night.
We saw lots of staff walking around, and even a manager talking to a customer, great we thought, Boy were we mistaken. The staff would look at us at the front hostess desk but make no move to seat us, We assumed they would send some one up to sit us at a table. No luck, a young girl came up and was more concerned with something else, so I looked in the bar area to see how busy they were, ( totally empty) and three stafff were standing around talking. We waited at least 10 minutes and no one helped us,( we were standing in front of the hostess desk) even though the restaurant was almost empty and they had lots of staff.
But what really upset me, I tried to make eye contact with a couple of the staff, and in every case they would turn away we waited 15mins standing, I fiquired if they were not interested in seating me and my wife, then dinner would also be a hassle. I will never go back to this poorly run Montana's
I hope the workers in Cucina Manila can read this, or the owner whatsoever. I just want to say that your food doesn't just taste like shit but also your employees are rude! They are totally not friendly, never smiles, never greet customers and the lady who works on the cashier is so grumpy and always looking scary like hell (I've been there twice, first to dine and second to get some of my fave bags of chips). Not a good experience. Bad food, bad service. You guys only lose customers and will never gain some if you don't do more effort on your food or change your ways and attitude. what a shame!
We are hooked on this restaurant. Although it ends up costing us a pretty penny everytime we order, the food is truly outstanding. We looked for a long time to find a great Thai restaurant and this is it.
Our current favorites:
Classic Pad Thai
The Gai Yang, which is a chicken that literally falls off the bone
The pad Eggplant
My husband and I are fairly new to the Clayton/Cloverdale area. We have been to many different restaurants in the vicinity and by far Aaron's is our favourite. Their pasta sauces are freshly made which you can tell when you take your first bite. And their pizza....yum! The only downfall we experienced was we went back recently and they didn't have their delicious tiramisu that we had enjoyed just weeks before :( Apparently, they have a few menu items that only get made when the chef decides to put it on the menu!! So, we will just have to keep going back and hopefully it will be at the right time. The service has always been great every time we have been. The servers are very friendly and attentive. One piece of advice... make reservations! They are not that big and fill up quickly, even during the week. I highly recommend Aaron's if you are looking for good Italian (and some Greek) food at a reasonable price.
So we've eaten there twice with mixed results. Good food but no beer to go with it kinda kills the experience for me. They have solid phad kee mao which is my favourite dish... not to self, don't get it "hot" next time just because you like your food spicier than the average person.
So back when I first reviewed the restaurant they truly were still working out the kinks. I've since become a regular. By regular, I mean that I drive 30 minutes out of my way to go on a regular basis. Walking in to Planet India is like coming home to visit my lovely extended Indian family. I don't work there, but I feel so strongly about the quality and "head and shoulders above every other Indian restaurant in Surrey" food that I actually am making the effort to come back and review it again. SO here we go...
If you're reading this, you're probably considering what you want to have for dinner or lunch today, and I can tell you without any hesitation at all, that if you are even pondering Indian food... you need to stop looking and start driving.
What to have? What not to have. I've had nearly everything on their menu at this point, with the exception of a few that I will absolutely be trying next week when I"m there. Here's my standouts.
1. The vegetable pakora is better than I've ever had it. Ever.
2. The chana masala is easily the best I've ever had - and I'm a fan. Eat it the traditional way with bhatura and you will not go wrong.
3. The tikka masala, korma, and muttar paneer all stand out as crazy delicious.
4. The chicken karahi was awesome last time we got it.
5. Have their Garlic Naan --- where other garlic naans come off as "meh" theirs is outstanding, loaded with fresh garlic. If you're not a big garlic fan, eat the regular. It's out-of-this-world good, with a great crispy exterior and a soft, tender interior.
6. If you are dining with a friend, get a pitcher. It makes sense since you will easily go through one beer and when you order your third beer for the table you've already exceeded the price of a pitcher (but don't tell the restaurant that!)
Ultimately, it's a nice, family owned restaurant that bangs out excellent food time and time again. We have truly never had a completely failed meal here.
I've stopped in a couple of times. The hot drinking chocolate is so rich (and yummy) that one cup was enough to satisfy both my daughter and myself. Very nice. I tried one of their chocolates and it was terrific, so this may be a good place to buy gift chocolate. The folks behind the counter were friendly and helpful. I'm going to try the fondue next time.
