A friend and I decided to try New York New York last night. The outside is unpretentious and partially hidden behind the (now closed) Java Hut on the corner of 64th and 152nd, so it has been easy to drive by all these years and assume it was just another one of those Mom & Pop steakhouses. I was surprised when a co-worker informed me that it was actually a Greek restaurant and a place where she and her husband go when they need to tame their cravings for Mediterranean food.
New York New York is a small restaurant with a combination of booths and tables, very clean, very simple, somewhat dated but cozy. Our waitress was top notch and tended our table with finesse and efficiency. I ordered the vegetarian platter with an unusual spanakopita that was rolled into a cigar shape (nice touch) which was delivered hot and delicious and served with the usual side combination of rice, lemon roasted potato and greek salad. The portions were very generous, very tasty and I was completely stuffed by the end of my meal -- my friend had to take half of hers home with her. The meal was one of the best that I've had, but If I had to make one complaint I would say that I wish my Greek salad was chilled versus room temperature -- other than that I have nothing but praise for this place.
By the end of our meal my friend and I concluded that we would definitely recommend this place to others - the $20 price tag on entrees may seem steep to some, but I've paid almost as much for limp, greasy, tired Greek food at other places and this was worth the investment!
I returned to this restaurant for the second time and again the food was excellent. This time I took my family and they enjoyed the food just as much as I did. My kids just absolutely loved the chicken chow mein. We had ordered 5 items in total, not only did we enjoy the food at the restaurant, we had plenty of left to take home!
Second visit to this pub basically the same result both times Absoulutly terrible service ......in fact it's non existant..........can't comment on the food never got served ......was there for a half an hour and never had a waitress come near my table and they weren't really busy,it's almost as if you're not a regular they don,t want your bussiness
I'm surprised time and time again that one need not go far in search of good food. I've passed by Akasaka multiple times and have been meaning to try it- finally went in when they sent me a coupon and invitation to put my name in for a free sushi draw. $500 in free sushi? I'm in!
The menu at Akasaka offers a wide range of options - a mix in style between Japanese bistro and traditional fare. I appreciate the innovative take on some of their specialty rolls and appetizers. We tried the salmon tataki salad,French Kiss Roll and Jazz Roll. All were well prepared, fresh and tasty. Particularly, the French Kiss roll was one of the best fried rolls that I ever had. It was fried perfectly, with the right amount of crispiness while still giving the rice a nice chewy texture. The filling was not affected by the frying and still fresh.
As for service - we used one of the coupons but left the flyer and the remaining second coupon on the counter after paying. The server ran after us outside into the rain to give us the flyer back "for next time".
Will be back.
Went there for dinner. Location is great, right on the beach. Service was slow, it took as long to get our drinks and bill, as to get our food. But worse of all, the quality of food was poor. The restaurant substituted peas in place of a full serving of greek salad, broiled their "roasted" lamb, no pita bread, no lemon, and limited wine selection. So many essential elements of greek food missing. Definitely not worth the money. I won't be going again.
I had some great sushi at Tawara in the last 6 months. The Master, Pyo was engaging at the sushi bar and a real artist. I went there today and found he had left at the end of July.
This is now just an ordinary sushi restaurant. The rice was poorly constructed and bland. Scallop nigiri was nearly tasteless where before it had delicious grassy notes. It was not fresh. The ikura nigiri tasted off. Tuna nigiri was old and bland, mealy. I think you get the idea. Not a place I would ever go to again. The staff was eager but communication was difficult. I planned a birthday treat there next week but phoned back to cancel because I felt a bit sick in the car on the way home. Good bye Pyo.
Me, my friends and workers and wife are all sushi monsters. We only enter and frequent the very best in sushi from Japan. I LOVE Tokyo Sushi. I go there once a week - sometimes even twice. I go there by myself. I love spending some time alone and relax while waiting for my sushi. Or I take my wife and we order top garde salmon skin, salmon, tuna and shrimps. The service is GREAT and fast. The fish is always fresh and the sushi is delicious. The prices are ok, not cheap but hey the value of freshness is there. The staff is very kind and they often give me a orange for free dessert. It is Japanese asian hospitality. It's the best sushi I ever tried in Vancouver and beyond. Read my other sushi reviews.
It's nice to come to Maguro for a non-Friday lunch, grab a seat at the bar and tuck into a spicy salmon roll included in the sushi tray special. They are the height of sushi kingdom and receive fresh fish every day. You can hear the authenticity when every time you ehar the chef and the waiters talk in their native tongue. You can read the copy of the Sun they have there in serene resto and have a delicious and relaxing time. Everyone at work would be so jealous if they knew what an amazing lunch hour you'd had, so keep this place a secret.
I am a sushi monster and so is my wife but we can't get enough of Maguro
We are absolute sushi monsters and eat sushi every week. Safe to say we know sushi inside out and have developed a keen sense for sushi. This place has the best sushi possible. For example, the salmon is so fresh you can taste the sea almost immediately. I have to say that when you reach the top of the sushi level possible you are perfect and there are no more than 10 sushi restaurants at that level in Surrey. Kyoto (a name of a city where staff come from probably) is one of them. Ask for the sushi tray and you will receive free soup, salad and orange. Service is so so but they know us so we receive special service.
We visited this place on Friday night and came away impressed. We have been long standing customers of the North Surrey location and it was the first time we came here. We had also read the reviews and all I can say is that don't believe everything you read. We were seated promptly and our server was brilliant We ordered the chicken pakoras and seekh kebab for appetizer and for mains some butter chicken palak Paneer and some rice and nan breads
The food was delicious and flavorful. The appetizers were sizzling and fresh and the mains were to die for! Definitely worth the visit and loved the decor. I've been to all the new restaurants on Scott RD and by far the Panorama Mahek has them beat for taste service and ambience
Only one problem now do we go to North Surrey Location or Panorama Hmmmm!!!
We were a bit leery about trying Elisabeth's as we had heard mixed reviews following an ownership change in the past while. However, we were pleasantly surprised with what a nice place it is for a delicious relaxing meal. The staff were gracious and welcoming hosts. Our waiter was pleasant and attentive. The room is beautiful and reserved, with soft music playing in the background. The food was just great - the prime rib special was as expected, nothing out of the ordinary, but tasty and filling. The highlight is schnitzel done in several different ways. Our waiter suggested one with crab, and it was excellent. Even the seniors portion was large, as the meals came with about four different vegetables. Not cheap, but pretty good value for what you get. If you want something different and think a schnitzel might hit the spot, try Elisabeth's, you won't be disappointed!
Wanting to try a new Japanese restaurant, my boyfriend and I read reviews of this restaurant with the hopes of consuming delicious sushi. Both of us have had our fair share of dining at many japanese restaurants, and we are able to tell the difference between great sushi and mediocre sushi. Walking into the restaurant with only a few tables at 7:30pm, it took a few minutes for the waitress for deliver us menus and after taking our drink order, she did not come back for 10 minutes. Instead she took our food order and then brought us our drinks. After ordering, the food arrived about 25 minutes later. We only ordered sushi rolls and was very disappointed when the plates arrived. The presentation was low to mediocre. We ordered the rainbow, special ninja, chopped scallop, bc roll and 2 tai nigiri sushi and were disappointed with the taste. The chopped scallop roll looked very pathetic, with actual scallops chopped. All other Japanese restaurants we have been to are known to give whole pieces of scallop. And the size of the roll looked inflated and puny. The rainbow was ok - with only Salmon, tuna and shrimp on the top. We frequently done at Tengoku on guildford and absolutely love eating there. However, today we decided to try something new and boy did we wish we had gone there instead. Their rainbow roll comes with an assortment of sashimi on top of th roll, and freshness is always guaranteed.
On top of the mediocre food, our waitress did not even bring us our bc roll. However, at this time we did not care because the food was disgusting. She didn't even write our order down. No wider she forgot our bc roll.
To conclude, my boyfriend and I are never going back and we will just stick to our usual spot in guildford because we are always guaranteed a delicious meal.
After developing what I'd like to call a habit of eating bad food, i took to trying to sample pizza from as many places as I could. although this review is for the Port Coquitlam location, It's the same owners/menu as this place. I called and ordered two mediums and was informed that I could get larges for the same price, hell, why not? I ordered a Chicken Ranch and a Butter Chicken pizza. both were awesome. crust was crunchy and chewy at the same time. toppings were loaded on. lots and lots of chicken too. the lady on the phone asked me if I wanted my butter chicken pizza "indian style" and I guess that is when they add ginger and cilantro onto it, and let me tell you, I will be ordering this again next week. just awesome.
I love good bbq i travel all over the place for work and have had true southern bbq and sorry to say this is not it. Bland was the main theme with their food. We got was is called the Memphis Feast . this is a bit of all their meat . Pulled pork no flavoure and very dry.Ribs tender but no taste no smoke or spice. chicken very dry.
beef was the best thing but no spice or smoke taste.
when you go in to the resterant they have great pits but i don't think they know hoe to us them .
Lets talk about their sauce they give. this is not a tennessee sauce way to much molasses in the sauce. They should think about adding some vinger and mustard to it drop half the molasses and they may be close.
Do not waste your time if your looking for true southern food this is not it. If you like bland food give it a try .
This is a great place good food great service you will not be disappointed ..Curry goat is awsome price is reasonable..try it out you will enjoy...This is one of the best buffet in town as there are so many Indian restaurants in surrey..Service is excellent they work really hard to make there customers happy..
We used to enjoy this restaurant. Upon entering we were being escorted to our table, but had to stop midway there and twiddle our thumbs as our server began a conversation with another patron who stopped him. No harm done, he realized fairly quickly and asked the other fellow to wait. Then, we asked for chai tea with our meal, one of our favourite aspects of this buffet, as many others don't offer it. Well, the chai came when we were done, after reminding him twice about it, and it was the worst chai I have ever had. It was so watery that it had no spices or milk that I could detect. It was like they only had a little left and rather than make more, they simply diluted it with hot water. The food was of very poor quality, with none of the condiments that they used to offer such as lime pickle, etc. After we finished eating I noticed some people had managed to find papards, but there were none when we ate - oh well! Getting our bill so that we could leave was a feat in itself. After waiting to catch hold of him to ask for it, we then had to wait painfully long for it to come. When it did, I said to please take the card now, but he looked right at me and ran away anyway. We had to bring the bill up to the cashier so that we could get out of there.
Never again! They have no doubt cut many corners, but kept the same prices. Save your money!!
Cash or Debit ONLY Found this hidden out of way Restaurant from a recommendation. I cannot believe the prices and quantity of fresh food. Combo Dinners Specials start at 2 Items $4.50, 3 Items $6.50 for Lunch.
Supper hour after 3:30PM is 2 items $5.50 and 3 items $7.95, many times I have to take some home. I now visit Annie at least twice to three times a week and have referred 7 other friends who take out and dine there. Give them a try, you will not be sorry.
it's close to work...what can i say? not once have i not felt screwed. they rarely get my order right - wrong salad/missing components like nuts or dressing/no napkins in bag/ soggy cold fries/all the condiments in a glob to one side of the burger - and the worst part - their meat is all rubbery. i've tried it sooooooo many times - (my fault) what kind of training program does this location provide? it's just not a macdonald's. i drive up to the one on 104 when i crave macdonald's
Went there on a week night expecting some good food and service. What a joke. From the moment we were seated by the manager I could séance something was off. My husband ordered his usual Bacardi and I ordered a kahlua and milk. The glass I was served was white didnt
look like any kahlua. When I questioned the waitress she assured me she saw him pour it from the kahlua bottle and I must be mistaken. I suppose fourth years in the restraunt business must have made me stupid. I told her I wanted another's ozone and would watch the bartender pour. This time I got what I ordered and explained it to the waitress where she again lied to me. My husband ordered a steak and asked the server if the chef was able to prepare a med well steak because he was picky and didn't want it well done or bloody. She snorted and said that is y he was the chef. When our food arrived my husband took a few bites and everything was fine until the middle of the steak which began to bleed all over the plate. When we finally got the attention of the server she argued with us and so we asked to c the manager who refused to help us. They deducted ten percent from the bill because we had two bites of steak. The manager couldn't have been less helpful and was actually rude. We were neither looking for free food or a deal but would rather have had what we actually ordered. These people are callus and uncaraing. Maybe they don't like mix raced couples but that is beyond stupid when u want to stay in business in surrey. TLC was the name of the game........total lack of care. Never go there people it sucks
My brother and I went in for dinner after hearing good things about this restaurant from our friends. We were very pleased. The service was perfect. Our server was very friendly and very informative. The food was amazing, I got the two piece haddock dinner and my brother got the two piece halibut dinner, both were very good. The fish was light and fluffy and surprisingly not greasy at all. The restaurant was very clean and there was nice music playing. We will definitely be going back.
