I came in all by myself today for the first time and decided to do take out instead of eating in. First impression was how mordern, beautiful and clean the restaurant is. Well I guess because it is brand new and the owners must have put a lot of thoughts into it!
When I walked in I know right away it is not a full - serve because of the two big menu boards they have on the wall and also a few customers were standing in line infront of me. For a Pho restaurant I have to say it is not something I have used to. So think of it as a high end fast food which serves Pho. Their menu is short and sweet but they do serve all the popular Vietnamese dishes. Definitely not mind-boggling menu with over 100 items like most Pho restaurants out there.
When it was my turn to order, the front staff asked for my name and also introduced herself which I find very cool because no other restaurants ever care who I am no matter how many times I come in to eat! My order for take out was one classic salad roll and two crispy pork springrolls as I was not in the mood for anything soupy. While waiting for my order I was offered with a glass of ice water. Instead of serving me water straight from the tap like a lot of other restaurants do, I was offered to use a filtered fountain water and right below it was a wooden bamboo bowl with some rocks and flowers...very tranquil and spa like!
While my order was being made, I chose to sit down to sip my water at a very long community table they have right in the middle of the dinning area...very cool! I was really impress with the whole ambiance of the place. Love the huge wall murals... "Nature call" so I have no choice but to use their restroom facility. For this part I would have to give this place 10 points!. They have automatic light, automatic soap dispenser and no more messy towel paper because they have automatic hand dryer. These "guys" are really going green letme tell ya. Well long story short, I came home enjoying my salad roll and crispy springrolls infront of TV. When I opened my take out order, a small hand written "thank you and enjoy with a smily face" on the take out box, this really melt my heart!. I respect that some people find this place a bit more expensive compare to other Pho restaurants but I see why they are because they do add other kind of values beside just foods. I do agree with "Kylia of Vancouver" when she wrote, "if you are only into cheap eats and dont care about other added values then yes this place is definitely not for you!" I love their salad rolls. Try it ! it has a little surprise inside the roll!
I hate to say it, but I'm not a fan of this restaurant. Sure, it's new and clean and pretty, but I'm not eating the decor.
The food was bland and overpriced. The salad rolls were yummy, but paying $10 for two of them is insane. The Pho didn't taste bad, it was just sort of dull and also small for what you pay. This is modern vietnamese....meaning they don't offer much in the way of authentic items. I guess I'm used to, and enjoy, the older style where you can get tripe and tendon in your soup and the broth is super tasty.
The owners/staff are very friendly and nice,so I hate to knock their restaurant. But this place is also mostly self-service. Meaning I had to ask for a water glass, and keep getting up to refill it throughout the meal. If you're trying to have a conversation with a dining partner is can be rather disruptive.
Overall, the food isn't bad it's just overpriced and lacking big flavours. That said I might give them another try later down the line and see if their food has changed at all. They are fairly new right now, maybe things will change.
Stopping in for a quick lunch I ordered a Tom yum and pad Thai. My small $10 bowl of soup arrived and tasted like tomatoe chicken soup. Having been to Thailand several times and eating my fare share of Thai food here at home, I have never tasted terrible soup like this. I informed the waitress that is wasn't good and I didn't want it. The manager arrived promptly telling me that that is just how they make it and I will have to pay for it!! She basically said "too bad, you ordered it, you pay for it". After threatening a nasty Internet review she finally conceded.
She then brought my pad Thai over and hovered over me like I was a 5 year old to see if I liked it. It was also bland and terribly unauthentic.
I will never eat here again. Not only is the food not good and the manager seriously lacking some customer service skills, but is it greatly over priced.
This place is a joke they buffet is one of the worst in town. There are so many Indian restaurants in surrey and delta this has to be one of the worst stale food I had lunch here and had nothing but massive heart burn and chest congestion and that comes from left over food I would not recommend any Indian food lovers to this place...
This place old and rusty but hey places like this have some good food also cheap my wife and I always go here once a week the two of us Order our meal at the end the bill is less then $20.. Good food owner sunny is a great guy..check it out it is cheaper then macdonalds or any fast food chin out there ...
My boyfriend is a Pho-lover and he has introduced Pho to me couple years ago when we met and since then we have practically gone together to every possible Pho places in town!
We came in for dinner one night extremely hungry after working out at the Y and just 5 mins before closing and there were just us in the entire restaurant! We were being greeted by a staff (whom we later found out is the owner of the place named Steven whom also addressing and thanking us by our names!). He explained to us that this restaurant has a different concept where you would have to order from two big menu boards on the wall, pay first and they took down your names and call you once your order is ready for pick up from the counter. Ok, this is very different because it is not a full serve restaurant but we were too hungry to care anyway. My boyfriend ordered "The Works PHo" Large which came with rare steak slices, beef brisket and beef meatballs. They do'nt serve Tripe or Tendon here which is a relief because we are not into those stuffs anyway! I ordered "Chicken Satay" on vermicelli bowls and "Helo Avocado" smoothie or something (I dont think I got the name right ) but anyway the presentation was just too beautiful to eat. I took a spoonful of the beef broth from my bf's bowl and was surprised how nice and mild it was. I can tell there is no MSG there because I know my soup! The broth was also very clear with no fat floating on top like a lot of Pho places do. I was also very impressed with the chicken satay knowing that it was all white meat and was it ever soft and tasty! ...with a hint of lemongrass and ginger.
The "hello Avocado" smoothie was to die for! I had avocado shakes before and this is not anything like it. Just pure yummy! Going through our foods like two hungry ghosts we finally had a chance to look at the surroundings after we were able to put our chopsticks down! I have to tell you this place is NOT like any of your typical PHO places. It was too beautiful, too "Zen" , too modern and too clean!. They have open kitchen concept and I love the fact that I can see what was being made infront of my eyes! And again the kitchen was way too clean which made me wondered if they ever cook in there. On to the value, yes it is definitely a bit pricey compare to other Pho places. So if you are only into Cheap Eats or good bang for your bucks and DO Not care about ambiance or cleaniness then this is NOT a place for you! The service was incredible even tho it is not a full serve restaurant. Steven the owner came and checked on us during our meal and for our feedbacks at the end of our meals. We also had a chance to read " A story board" hung on the wall about how Chopsticks on PHo was born. It was a very nice and touching story! We left them couple $$ in their tip jar before we left even tho they didnt ask for it. Thank you Chopsticks on PHo for building such a wonderful PHO restaurant! WE WILL BE BACK!
Another nice place tanks, too bad used to enjoy coming in a couple times a month in the last year, not sure what happened but I won't be back. Food has changed for the worst, haven't seen the young chef so maybe that's why. Freshness is gone and it has just become predictable and mundane. I would rather eat my wife's food
My husband and I went to the Il Uk Jo tonight and had a terrible experience. The place is dirty, and needs a thorough cleaning and overhaul. The rooms you sit in are dirty, falling apart and very cramped. We were asked if we wanted drinks. My husband had hot sake, I asked for a wine list and the waitress couldn't understand English so another waitress came over and didn't do much better when I asked what kind of wine they had as all they had was California white, which she didn't understand that I wanted the name of the wine. Frustration ensued so I ordered a beer. She brought the beer. Bottle only. I asked for a glass and she brought me a juice glass to drink a beer out of. I asked for a beer glass, but again no response and no glass. We then ordered from the menu, with no help and this business of writing on a piece of paper what you want and then getting it and then having to order again was very frustrating as they never explained if you wanted 4 tempura prawns you have to put 4 as if you put 1 you only get 1 prawn. The service was so slow, the waitress never asked how the food was and never explained about a bell to get them to come over. We were so frustrated and so displeased that we will not return. $20.00 for all you can eat is not a bad price, but the food was not deserving of $20.00 as we were at a loss of what to order. I did not tip and will not return. Don't go if you want good service and a clean enjoyable restaurant.
I LOVE sushi, and this is my go-to place for years. I crave their Dynamite Roll and Salmon every day hahah!
I haven't noticed any problem with the service, just one time they got mad because they thought I ordered Tuna with my takeout, but I never order Tuna from them, so that's the only confusing incident I had with them. I get excited every time I see my favorite chef, he is always so cheerful.
They've bumped up their prices a bit, but even now it's still REALLY cheap. Though I must say the consistency in taste is more off these days, I hope they pick it back up again.
So my wife and I order from Greek Island pizza here in surrey a week ago and when we got it the crust was hard as rock. My wife phoned and the guy said that he would issue us a credit towards a future order for two medium pizzas. when we phoned today the manger tried to back out of what he said. "I never said credit I said discount" Then when he said "I offered you a credit towards pizza: but then tried to pass then tried to pass it off that it was only a discount towards an order. Giving someone a credit means free in my mind. I will NEVER EVER be ordering from this pizza place again. Which is a shame because the prices are ok.
We enjoy casual dining and trying different places but sometimes a sense adventure can backfire on you and that was the case with this restaurant.
We hadn't eaten at this particular Montanas before but had been to one years ago in the interior which turned out to be a much more enjoyable experience.
While we showed up well past the dinner hour and perhaps being a long weekend had some effect, we were surprised at how empty the place was for a Friday evening.
Our server was polite and seemed attentive at first and quickly took our order, however that pretty well marked the end of our pleasant dining experience.
Our appetizers took forever to come and just when I was about to inquire into their whereabouts our server came by to inform us that there had been a mix up but they would be up shortly.
To his and the restaurant’s credit they took the initiative to remove the appetizers from the bill which after tasting them was a good move because had they not, we would have requested they do so.
It was obvious that after realizing their mistake they tried to rush the order through and as a result the food wasn't thoroughly cooked.
When our entrees finally showed, which was well beyond the time it took others who had entered the restaurant ten or fifteen minutes after us, we did not see our server again until it
was time to pay the bill, in fact I had to flag down another server for refills and condiments.
Unfortunately the food wasn’t worth the wait.
I ordered something off the on-line menu which for whatever reason wasn't displayed on the in-house menu ( I should have heeded the warning sign) and while I appreciated the willingness of the server to comply with my request, I later thought that there was probably good reason why that particular item was not on their menu.
It was overcooked and absolutely saturated (not marinated) with a sauce that did not resemble the taste of how it was described on the on-line menu.
I guess I just expect a dining experience to offer something more than I could whip up at home myself by cooking a piece of frozen chicken and then dousing it with some store bought sauce
My wife and son's meals were subpar at best and my overall impression was that it was one of those franchise restaurants that relies heavily on marketing, ambience and location but can't back it up with service and quality, which usually isn't a recipe for long term success.
We won't be returning anytime soon
Came here for lunch the other day as my sister was craving some Pho, and she suggested we check out this new restaurant.
I wasn't in the mood for any soup or subs, so I ordered their vegetarian spring rolls. I have to say, I was pretty disappointed when I received it. Presentation was nice, but I thought to myself "where's the rest of the rolls?" For $8.50 (incl. tax) I expected more. I was given 2 small spring rolls cut up into six pieces. On top of that, it wasn't very tasty, so I felt that my money had gone to waste.
On a good note, when I came in I thought the restaurant looked great. It was clean and very modern looking. Staff was very friendly as well. No complaints there.
If the prices weren't so high, I would give it another shot. For now, I think I'll stick to the other restaurant I go to...
Went here for a quick bite to eat and ordered take out. Took advantage of the specials of dynamite, california and tuna rolls. The taste was satisfactory. Not the wose but not the best either. The price is very good and i woudl consider going here again for my quick and cheap sushi fix.
I think Kuroishi is the best jap restaurant in the White Rock area.
Both the interior and exterior are beautiful and the staff give a warm welcome.
I ordered Red Dragon Roll, Chicken Karaage.
The Red Dragon Roll was pretty good. Not too spicy, and very nice presentation.
Karaage was great. It was actually juicy and had wonderful flavor.
I'd come back anytime.
I go to this restaurant for chinese food and it is always good. I will usually get variuos different dishes on the menu and I am never dissapointed. Although I only get take - out, the tables and chairs and tablecloths look very classy. I would recomend this place to anyone who likes lots of choices on the menu and especially seafood.
I've been to this restaurant twice now and everything is great.
The people who run this place must have read the reviews and changed what they were doing.
We were seated immediately and had a waiter very quickly.
very friendly waiters and they did not rush us at all.
The food was amazing ( can't beat the ribs ).
we left very happy and full.
Great Breakfast - Jasna Cafe
In case you didn't already know, Phil and I love to find new places to eat. Well, Phil likes the finding, I like to experience the eating!.
Some people have a favorite restaurant that they return to over and over. We are more like, "we've been there, where shall we go next". Phil will do the research, read reviews and carefully choose the next place we will go.
Yesterday was no exception. We wanted to go out for breakfast, so Phil got on his computer and started researching a place we had noticed as we drove home one day. The place is called is Jasna Cafe, at 10320 Whalley Blvd, Surrey, BC.
Many reviews that Phil found said try the Eggs Benny. So we did! And Wow! They were good. We had three choices of hash browns (deep fried cubed, homemade shredded and homemade pan fried) or fruit with a full eggs benny for $6.95. We both had the shredded hash browns, and they were delicious, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle YUM YUM! My eggs were cooked perfectly, poached medium, served on a slice of ham and toasted english muffin and topped with perfect hollandaise sauce. One of the best hollandaise sauces I have tasted in a long time, nice citrus touch, not too much butter, great balance.
The decor of the place is interesting, looks like a japanese sushi place, complete with rooms on one side. The menu is standard diner fare with a bit of an asian influence. The coffee was good. The service was friendly and quick. May have to go back one day to try their lunch menu, there is a Ruben sandwich that caught my eye.
So, if you are lookng for a good breakfast at truly reasonable prices - try the Jasna Cafe. We ate breakfast for under $20.00.
One more bonus -- they have WiFi so we were able to plan out our day while we enjoyed breakie!
Maria and I planned on visiting Chopsticks on Pho for their soft opening. Maria's cousin opened this restaurant and asked us if we wanted to check it out. I can never turn down food *sigh*. The decor is very modern. I thought the restaurant was too pretty for a Pho restaurant compared to others. The menu had a small selection of items, but it offered the most popular dishes. The pricing was a bit expensive compared to others. The service was good, but the wait was long. I ordered the "Works" and a "Grilled Lemon Grass Viet Sub". The pho was pretty tasty. The soup base was chicken, and there wasn't any MSG. It was very clear and clean. The "Grilled Lemon Grass Viet Sub" was a bit of a downer. The sub wasn’t stuffed to what I expected. I was able to flatten out the sub to the point where it looked like I was just eating bread. Other than that, it was a pretty good soft opening. This Pho restaurant is the better ones I had been to in Surrey. I definitely need to come back.
Very rarely do you find a restaurant in Canada that takes you back to India. This restaurant is one such place. Definitely serves the best Indian food in Vancouver. Everything from Kebabs ( Afghani Tikka, Lahori Tikka or Kakori Kebab) to the amazing curries is just superb. I usually am a tough critic, when it comes to food but I have never been given a chance to complain at this restaurant. I think I have been there soo many times that there isn't a thing on the menu that I have had that I haven't liked. The friendly and professional service combined with amazing food makes Chefs Kebab my go to place when it comes to Indian Food. It isn't expensive and I would go there even if it was because the food is actually that good!!!! Highly Recommended. Go there and you won't regret it!!!
I have had the good fortune of having a lot of Japanese friends who have taken my out to some really great sushi places, so I know great sushi when I have it. The food was outstanding, the service was great and the ambiance was awesome. My Boyfriend and I decided to check out this place since it's right across from the movie theater in Guildford. We were so happy with the food. It costs a little more than some sushi places but well worth it and the portions are a good size. I will be telling all my friends. It made our day.
