As a local I have dined there for years and the food has been consistently good. The service however ruins the experience most every time. I have always seen people displeased with their service. Usually very disorganized when busy, the service will let you down in the end and the value is lost.
All these reviews saying "Kingsway cheaper, price too high" If you want cheap, look for the Golden Arches. I come for the flavors, the friendliness and the tranquility. Look at the floor, the ceiling, the chair your sitting on. ALL spotless and sanitary. Steve and Lynn have put their hearts in this family business and their love in their food.
This is my 2nd visit in a week and trying to make excuses every day to go to this little strip mall. My first visit, the greeting when I walked through the door was warm and friendly. Asked if my first time in, I assure Steve and Lynn that it was. I also asked for them to suggest something as I was starved. "Any allergies?" No, I am completely at your mercy.
That day, I had "The Works" and a side of crispy roll. When it arrived, my senses were greeted with aromas always heard about but never seen.. until then.I will not lie, I almost licked the bowl out!
I made a excuse to stop today and just walked through door and Lynn greets me.... by name. Steve comes over, shakes my hand and sincerely wishes myself and my wife good health (My wife is a terminal cancer patient, and Steve sent her last week prayers and 2 springrolls, which she loved)
Today was the Beef stew lunch special with coconut milk, rice, pickles FRESH veggies and cucumber / lettuce.OK, if you want to experience total taste satisfaction, you have to make a trip here.
Since this is the only place i can have dimsum in Surrey, I have come to this chinese restaurant quite often for lunch to have dimsum.. but I will no longer go to this restaurant because of awful service i've ever had.
two friends and i went there at lunch for dimsum as usual. two waitress were serving the whole area and they looked very sharp. my two friends and I worked as a waitress before. We understand how hard they have been working in that poor condition, but they should not BEHAVE RUDELY and INSULT customers.
They put food with loud sounds , although we said "thank you" everytime the food was served and tried to be nice to them. Nevertheless, we became impatient with the way two waitresses talk to us. After our meal was finished, we decided to have desert, but only one was available. no appology, kept hearing a word, "no". how nice.
while we were eating, one of my friends made togo. Later, we got the togo food without any sauce, which had to be packed together. however, we got two bills, dine-in and togo, as requested. we asked the waitress to divide the dine-in bill into three (my friend had to pay for her dine-in and togo together). i was very surprised when the waitress shook her head and SNORTED. I got mad and accused (i couldnt find the appropriate word) her and she made a nonsense excuse in return.
"because you asked to separate the bill into three again and i have to calculate it"
what again? of course we need separate bills, dine in and togo.. and we were the ones to be blamed for my friend to pay her bill? it only takes a few seconds to calculate the bills by punching a calculator and why was that annoying her?
.. great attitude.
i am for sure that we never treated them bad. these two old ladies must learn how to behave and say to customer. i am sure they would not have the serving right certificates either.
as i left the restaurant i gave them tips (less than 10%) for the delicious foods we had today.
(the foods were delicious, and it was the reason we had come here)
Gosh i miss the other waitress, who are more friendly and smart. i used to give them tips around 20%!
feel sorry for the boss, who just lost the good customers like us because of the awful waitresses. many orders, good tips, kind behaviours. so sad.
I heard it was not only us treated like that. be nice people. PLEASE.
Often drove by this place so decided on take out. The egg rolls were good but greasy. Sweet and sour spareribs were good. The rice, chowmein, and shrimp Foo Yung, were the worst we have ever had. We ordered from the family special menu. The rice was white with a few carrots and peas i believe. The chow mein was noodles only it seemed. The Foo Yung looked like a flat omelet with the sauce on the side. I was upset for days as we spent over forty dollars that we could have spent else where. The veggies were good but how could you go wrong with those.
The only good point about this place is that it was clean and fairly devoid of derelicts considering the area. Ordered a veggie burger. Swiss veggie seems to be gone because it was good I guess. Caused a big todo when I wanted in on a white bun not we. Just because I don't eat meat doesn't mean that I want what I do eat to be served on cardboard. Asked for rings instead of fries. Combo came to well over $10. I don't usually pay that for sit down workday lunches. Rings were ready but burger not . I want them together. Burger ready after 10 minutes( fast food?). No rings left wait another 5 . Getting angry. Verdict. Veggie burger bland with processed orange cheesy substance. Rings mushy inside and tasteless. Both very salty - good thing they haven't screwed up the root beer.r
This place oozes Sexy!
If you are lucky enough to get a seat into this intimate place, you will enjoy it immensely! Ordained with beautiful staff and original food, the whole experience is just so so delicious and if you weren't in Surrey, you may just think you are in a class of its own!
Super lovely and professional staff, an amazing experience into seafood. Makes a wonderful romantic evening for two, or a fun experience for a small group.
I HIGHLY recommend this place for a great evening!
Wow! This has some of the best Greek food I’ve ever had. This place is amazing. We tried it for the 1st time yesterday. My husband is not really a fan of Greek food but he loved his dinner last night. His plate was completely cleaned off and they do have large servings.
I disagree with the comments about the ambiance. I found the ambiance just lovely. The tables are nicely set with fresh linens and the room is softly lit ,there are also lights at each table. The ambiance is way nicer that it is at most Greek restaurants that I’ve gone to.
The service is amazing. The server was so pleasant and chatty but she was not overbearing. She seemed to genuinely enjoy her job and made us feel very welcome. What a treat to have such superlative service.
A delicious pita bread that is nice and hot is served with your meal. The entrees are served with rice, potato and Greek salad. The salad was nice and fresh – very tasty. For entrees I had the roast lamb and my husband had the lamb chops. The portions are very generous. My lamb was so tender and with the taziki sauce it was just perfect. My husband had requested his lamb chops be done medium rare and they were served exactly as he had requested. He received 4 good sized lamb chops perfectly cooked and seasoned for $18.95. If you consider the cost of lamb chops this is very good value. For dessert we shared the eckmeck dessert. It was a large piece, obviously homemade and again just delicious. For $4.00 it was very good value for the money.
Amazing food, wonderful service and good prices. How can you go wrong. We’ll definitely be back.
This place truly sucks,my wife and I went to this place on a Friday nite at 7 pm. When we walked in there was only 4 people what happen here? So we thaught ya ok some appy and drinks and we will see.so got steak bites I think it was an ounce of beef and crab poppers, bites were ok nothing to write home about but the crab cakes was horrible.enough said we are not going to order more food we sat there till 9pm with now only 2 people. I think a good management who knows what they are doing is badly needed in this place..also they were dust on the glass self dirty place ..will not even recommend this to my enemy..cheers
I have liked some forms of sushi for awhile now. Just kinda liked it. Until my girlfriend brought me HERE! Hands down the most amazing Sushi experience. It was fantastic. From the miso to the Soft Shell Crab roll…. EVERYTHING was amazing. The flavor of the food was fantastic. Preparation was amazing. Creativity was unike anywhere I have been. Fruit at the end was just the perfect addition to our meal. The service was STELLAR! We never had to ask for a thing. I am not a convert! This place is a must-go for anyone looking for some high end sushi at a terrific price! I have attached some of my photos of the meal. ENJOY! Lemme know what you think!
Change in management, change in staff,
this place is a much better improvement from the renovated Nagoya from last year.
You will definitely get your bang for your buck. Huge portions and very reasonable prices.
This is as best as you can get in Surrey, atleast. Depending on who the chef is, it is almost better than
the sushi I have in downtown Vancouver.
Very happy, satisfied and left feeling full.
I ordered from China King at the end of December, and had it delivered to y home. It was pod food for a good price. I had great service, and prompt deliver....
Because of the good experience I had the first time, I decided to order from them again.
That's where the positivity ended...
I ordered a rather large amount for my family. Over $120... I never received a confirmation call, so I called THEM just to see what was happening. I was told that my address was too far and that they weren't going to deliver to me. I told them I had ordered from them before and the delivery was no issue. The woman on the phone told me that she spoke to the manager and he said my address was too far, and that I in-fact did NOT order from them, and I must be mistaken... Right... I must have imagined it as I stood in my kitchen holding the menu I was given from the first time they delivered to me... I asked to speak to the manager, then she proceeds to tell me that she IS the manager and that they wouldn't deliver to me...
I called Just-eat.ca, the website I ordered from, and spoke to customer service. They called the restaurant on my behalf... I was then told that the managers were going back and forth with their driver about the deliver, a s that they wanted an extra $10 on top of the already mandatory $5 delivery charge, to deliver to me...
I live no more than 5 minutes down the road from this restaurant.....
All-in-all... Decent food, worst service in history. I was basically told that I imagined ordering from them, and treated like a complete idiot. I will never go back.
IF YOU WANT GOOD SERVICE, THIS IS NOT THE PLACE FOR YOU. I am a huge lover of butter chicken and I was looking for a place closeby since I go to Kwantlen. I read reviews on here and other websites and was pleasantly surprised by the good ratings and decided to give it a try. The buffet was just opened so instead of spending only $15 for two people like originally planned, my sister and I decided to both go for the buffet. We received pretty okay service throughout and they continually cleared our plates with no problems, although we kept receiving looks and whispers as we headed to the buffet, noone said anything about any left over food on the plates. The last plate I wasn't finished with and she asked me if she could clear it I said no, she cleared it anyways and I went along with it because she already took it. By the end of our meal, she comes over with it all packed up and says we're going to have to charge you for this and the two other plates - WTF, no mention of this AT ALL before clearing our plates. She said it's clearly written at the buffet, BUT when someones hungry whose going to notice the sign shoved in the corner? You should definitely tell people BEFORE you clear plates you are going to charge. Waitresses usually give clear warning of extra charges before they clear the plates giving the customer the chance to finish it. All I received back were snippy comments back saying its rude in their culture to tell the customer their going to be charged before they take the plate. IT'S OBVIOUSLY MUCH WORST TO TELL THE CUSTOMER AT THE END, "OH BY THE WAY - WE'RE CHARGING YOU FOR THOSE PLATES WE CLEARED" I'm not upset for being charged extra it was only $2, I'm really upset at how this situation was handled. If she was nice and sincere and had a good attitude about it, I would've just been like okay, I understand. But the way this situation was handled and her attitude towards me arguing with me for a good two minutes over the extra charge - WAY TO LOSE A POTENTIAL REPEAT CUSTOMER OVER A $2 CHARGE. I would've probably visited every week when I'm at school, that's $780/year lost for you PLUS more because also now I'm going to tell ALL of my friends not to go here, INCLUDING people on this website. Learn how to provide some customer service. It's not worth it to lose a potential repeat customer over a LARGE dispute over a $2 charge.
We have been going to Tawara for months every time we have craved for Sushi.
I have to say this place is the best sushi restaurant in town. The food is always fresh and outstanding. I also really like the sauce and dressing for rolls and salad. We sometimes get a complementary dish from the Chef which is nice.
They offer nice and well-presented lunch and dinner boxes which you can try variety menu of Tawara.
This place is always clean and tidy with the high ceiling. And the staff is always welcomed us and friendly.
You can tell the difference between a good restaurant and a GREAT restaurant by tasting the butter chicken. Believe me this restaurant has one of the best I've tasted. My girlfriend and I love authentic Indian food which is hard to find in White Rock. When we heard from family and friends how good this place was we just had to see for ourselves. Our server was awesome and did not make us wait. The prices were VERY reasonable. Majority of the appetisers were around $3.00 - $9.00. This restaurant is our GO-TO place for fresh authentic Indian food. I would highly recommend!
our rather large group go here often, because of the service and their willingness to accommodate us each time we arrive. sometimes we have to add a couple seats, but this never seems to be a bother to the staff members,
service is very good and we have never been kept waiting for drinks or having our orders taken! Keep up the good work! Thanks.
this place is amazing we always get the sweet and sour pork its so lean and yummy and the chow mein and rice is to die for...also the beef and black bean sauce is so delish, its got super tender meat that melts in your mouth, its sirloin not flank and the prawns are delicious too...ive been going for years and ive been to every chinese food restaurant in vancouver or most of them anyway, this place is priced well with great servers and i have never had a bad meal there...love love love this place might go there tonight now im craving it lol
My sister and I brought my little 14 month old baby niece here for the first time after reading all the great reviews on line and it is true to every words. We were greeted promptly by the owner himself and he's already had the baby high chair in his hands for niece before we even need to ask.
He insisted that we sat down and gave us a full service instead of standing up order from the menu boards like other customers because my sis has a small baby. The Pho soup is outstanding with absolutely no MSG as I would know because I am allergic to it. Given it is a Pho restaurant, they serve the best lemon grass chicken Vietnamese sandwich I've ever tasted anywhere else. You must try it!
However the most notable mention is the service we received here. My niece liked to play with chopsticks and spoons and also made rather a huge mess with ice and water all over the floor. She even accidentally knocked off her apple juice bottle we brought from home. To our surprise Steven (the owner) came out with a bottle of apple juice and gave it to my niece. I am still touched as writing this not because we got a free bottle of apple juice but because we were treated with utmost care and understanding as Steven mentioned that he also has small children of his own.
Thank you Chopsticks on Pho for putting your customers first!
In my opinion this is the best Donair in the Lower Mainland. The atmosphere is a bit ghetto but the service is very family friendly and the Beef and Lambs are dead on perfect! Well seasosned and just too juicy and yummy. Try their sweet garlic sauce you will love it! Really ...it doesn't get any better then this!!
Newton Pizza is our go-to pizza place for take-out!
The crust is thick and crispy, the ingredients are generous and fresh! The pizza is never greasy!
We always order either the Vegetarian, the Newton Classic, or the Hawaiian...and all are excellent!
Delivery is usually about 45-50 mins....so keep that in mind when ordering, but its well worth the wait.
My girlfriend (who is in the restaurant business) and I, went here for lunch. It is an intimately set, upscale restaurant and we experienced service that was exceptional, however... While the lobster bisque and the ceaser salad were very good, when our pasta came we were both dismally disappointed. Our waiter had told us it was a seafood and basil based pasta however when it came, it reminded us of mac and cheese with butter and ketchup. When asked our opinion, we were truthful in saying it wasn't what we expected and though the waiter did everything right, eg. apologize, offer to adjust the bill etc, the cook/owner came to our table . This is where it went downhill. In a manner that was more threatening than complacent, he stated that he understood that we didn't like how he prepared our food. Then he waited for an explanation... If that wasn't condescending enough, after we paid our bill (with my friends' 40% ..guilt tip), we went to the bathroom. At that time, I overheard a conversation between two men from the open kitchen, spoken in a mocking tone and with snide laughter, "Thank-you ladies for your most positive and tactful comments. Now please go and enjoy the rest of your day in the pouring rain." Wow, very surprising behavior from an owner!
