Wings...no longer the defining standard

So I felt a need for some Jakarta Heat wings and wife felt like some buffalo, we were on the go and so we called for pick up. As soon as I seen the newer smaller boxes I began to dread what my friend told me just a couple weeks prior, the wings got smaller. We got home in like 5 minutes but the wings were alreday cold, and didn't even look even remotely sauced up. half of the honey garlic wings were only half sauced , and the buffalo looked dry. I told them to make the Jakarta Heat a little bit spicier, but they tasted like mildly spcier buffalo wings and the buffalo were not even spicy and fortunately we had franks to add more sauce to them cause they definitely lacked. The wings were smaller then before, and didn't taste as good as they used to which is a trend with most places when they get a little bigger in stature. When my wife went in to grab the wings, she had to wait like 3 minutes just for someone to even aknowledge she was even there......in a near empty restaurant.

Needless to say, I highly doubt we'll be going to Wings for their Wings anymore.....instead, we'll most like go to Brewsters down the street where the wings are certainly much, much better.

Good Wings + Cheap Drinks = Good Times!

Checked out Wings tonight for a late night snack with my bf. We split 3lbs of wings in the following flavors: Tokyo (a cross between hoisin sauce and teriyaki sauce and sesame), Mexican (a dry wing with spices) and the Westcoast (our favorite - lemon and black pepper). The wings were delicious, hot and fresh. I wish there were more veggie sticks to accompany the plate though (we got 4 carrot sticks).

Drinks are ridiculously cheap here compared to downtown establishments or even the chain restaurants/ bars. My cocktail special was $3.50 and the bf's Coronas were just a little over 4 bucks each.

Ambiance was nice -- modern decor meets the quirky feel of a theme eatery (they have blues brothers statues at the front and a plane near the back)

Service was prompt and our server was fairly friendly. She quality checked on us twice and automatically brought me a water when I declined another cocktail.

Recommended.

Food: Large portions for the price but sometimes a little bland. BBQ chicken is always a safe choice to make. I don't think their wings are that particularly good but there are a large variety of flavors. I really like their calypso burger - one of my favorites.

Service: Always super friendly and nice. A friend knows the manager so we always get great service but everyone else does as well, regardless of whether they know anyone who works there at all.

Ambiance: Nice and clean place to hang out with a great and comfortable interior but the location makes it hard to muster up the effort to drive all the way out there. It kind of sits on the border of a really sketchy area... Remember to lock your car door is all I have to say.

I kept hearing about this place so we decided to finally check this place out becasuse we moved closer to Surrey.

When we first got their it was packed, and we ended up waiting an hour, but that was because we had a table of 10, their was a canucks game, and it was also their 39 cent wing night.

When we finally got our table, they were quick to take our drink and food orders, as they let us know that it might be a little while for the wings given that it was so busy.

The wings were delicious, warm and cheap, and the salads were much to be desired, but would you seroiusly go to wings for a salad? i dont think so...

Throughout the dinner, our server was very attentive and polite, and under stress the main hostess did an excellent job from keeping the crowds under control.

We would definitely go back there again, but I would make sure I would go when I dont have to work the next morning. I only had 50 wings, I could have definitely had 20-30 more since they were so delicious...

Best Wings so Far

I agree with other reviewers... There aren't that many decent wing places in the lower mainland... Sometimes you just feel like having a good beer, wings and watch the game. Well, if you're like me, this is a great spot. I've never seen such a variety of styles - jerk wings, salt & pepper, chicago style, etc... They wings are large and meaty and come with a side of blue cheese or ranch dressing with some veggies. Nothing fancy, just satisfying. Haven't tried anything else at this place... yet.

Cold wings, cold soup, no service

We went last night for supper. Ordered soup and wings. The bowls were hotter than the soup which had a scum on top. The wings had literally no sauce on them and were cold like out of the fridge cold. The waitress huffed at us and took them back. Came back instantly with sauce dumped on top. We expressed dissatisfaction several times. Nothing. She came back and threw the bill on the table. No thanks. Work too hard for my money to waste it on cold food and poor service and no customer service.

Hot Wings are the Bomb!!!
By yogastretch of Surrey (3 Reviews)
Submitted Friday, October 15, 2010 - 10:36am [Dine in]

My buddies and me hit this place every Sunday because they have cheap wings and we're all going to school. They offer a good run of different flavors - I like the Orange Ginger and Sweet Chili Heat - but when they say that they're ultra-stupid-hot-wings are hot, they are not kidding I can tell you that. We usually get an order of ten for the table and there's five of us and we usually can get through one each. They're that hot!

The other flavors are still real good and their servers are cute and quick, which is important when you're dying from trying to eat three of their stupidly hot wings (I'm talking about you, Dan!). The value is impossible to beat and it's a really good place to just chill and watch the game while downing some beer with the boys.

Real Hot Wings for a Reasonable Price
By Sapphire of Surrey (4 Reviews)
Submitted Saturday, November 22, 2008 - 6:57pm [Dine in]

I went with my family for the first time after hearing about their notoriously spicy hot wings. We ordered a plate of Texas fries which were pretty good (a southern style poutine without gravy), a bowl of onion soup and for starters, some Jammin Jamaican Wings which were nice and tangy but definately not what I call hot (it was rated 2 chilipeppers).
Halfway into our food, we decided to bump up to some Bobby Wings from the House of Pain but the waitress said it makes grown men cry so we were persuaded into their Wings of Fire instead which were a grade lower.
Man, were those the hottest wings I've ever had!!! Unfortunately, it was only the sauce that was spicy, the meat inside really had no flavor.
Overall, the food was great, kind of disappointed that the spicyness only comes from the sauce, but the price was very agreeable--our tab only came to $28 and we a family of 3 were really full.

I went to wings with some friends from work. I arrived 30 minutes after everyone else. They ordered as soon as they got in, and were told it would take 45 minutes to get their food because there was one large party that night.

A little bit slow is understandable, but 45 minutes is too long for a pub-type environment. I also did not appreciate the sour attitude of our server.

When the food finally arrived it was very good. The kitchen staff make quality food. I split an appetizer platter and it was great: calimari, wings, bread, nachos. Superb.

Thumbs up for the quality of food, thumbs down for the serving staff

Tried this place out a couple Saturday night ago. Funny thing is they are called Wings so you'd expect wings were their specialty. Well, nothing to rave about. As for the service, nothing to rave about either. Ambience, nothing to rave about. Overall experience, nothing to...well you get the point.

only go on sundays...but you'll wait a long time, and maybe not get a table
By server86 of Burnaby (15 Reviews)
Submitted Friday, June 13, 2008 - 3:10pm [Dine in]

The wings are great, (they better be - it's called WINGS). The servers are kind of blah about their job. The host staff is so slow and doesn't know what's going on around them. On sundays it's really busy because it's cheap wing night and it's like it hit them from left field and they don't know what's going on... yet, it happens every week? The host did not take down our name for some reason and started seating other people that came in after us. When my boyfriend went to ask why this was happening, we learned that our name wasn't even on the wait list. Not cool. The server was friendly enough, and was nice enough to leave a jug of water on our table just in case our wings were too spicy (that's tacky). Are you really that busy that you can't walk around with a jug of water and fill up glasses? It's not like we didn't order any other drinks or anything either. When you bring back beers, why not fill up waters too? So tacky. The whole place is tacky for that matter. Anyways, long story short, good wings, horrible service, but I guess you get what you pay for on wing sundays.

Bad Flight on these Wings
By pickywicket of Lower Mainland (12 Reviews)
Submitted Tuesday, October 23, 2007 - 10:07pm [Dine in]

I went for lunch last week with my 5 year old.

Server greeted us (first customers of the day) like we were interupting her.

My son ordered the burger with "a mountain of fries" he was served a bun and a slab of meat inside a soup bowl with a few cold french fries. (and we were the first customers - so how did they get cold fries???)

I ordered the chicken wing dinner, it arrived with a bit of a noxious odor, the rice was several days old, and the chicken wings were below mediocre.

I would not go back.

I started going to Wings about 4years ago when I heard they were famous for their Wings Of Fire in which you had to sign a contract to even try one. Ever since then, I've been hooked.

The ambiance is upscale with its dark lighting and furniture that consists of booths and tables. They have both a lounge and dine area (as well as a heated patio for the Summer).

The service can be slow at times because they are so popular and waiting periods can be up to an hour. Busiest day will be Sunday because they have their promotion of 39cent wings. Reservations are only accepted during weekdays. When you do get seated though, I do find all my servers are friendly and if the food is slow, the drinks are fast.

The food is incredible. They range from their specialty of Wings to steaks, quesidillas, burgers, salads and soups. The Wings sections has over 12 flavoured wings each accompany by any sauce of your liking. I can't rave enough about how great the wings are. Although the drinks, alcoholic & non, are on the weak side. It tastes dilluted and the pop is awful. Only the 7up tastes close to carbonated.

The value is awesome as well because no dish costs more than $15, not even the steak and the quantity is satisfying.

Defenitley can see myself going here for years to come! (although the Granville one is a disappointment compared to this one)

Best wings in the Lower Mainland!!!

I haven't been able to eat wings anywhere else once I tried this place - nothing comes close! The wings are huge and (most of the time, although there have been some off nights) are cooked perfectly to a tender crisp. Salt & Pepper, Thai, and Honey Garlic steal the show for sure. You also have to get the WOWY sauce to go with the wings... mmmm that stuff is good. The salads are SO CHEAP, $3 for a pretty big starter salad, that's a steal! However, be warned that the other food on the menu isn't very good... just go here for wings.

The Sunday special for $0.39/wing makes the place insanely busy on Sundays, so don't go with a big group unless you are prepared to wait or if you make a reservation ahead of time. Also, the service isn't the best, so yeah... don't expect superb service. Customer service is a REALLY BIG DEAL to me, and I usually don't put up with lousy service, but the wings here are so good, I cacn't help it. Even with the 30 minute drive, I still go there about once a week on average.

well first off, the wings are obviously awesome, my favs are the sweet thai and westcoaster(lemon and pepper). the service is average. but the prices are great. this place is a lot cheaper than the other food joints. almost the whole menu is under $10. most of the dishes/burgers are around $8 with big portions. and the food tastes great. this place is definitely taste better and is cheaper than other places like redrobin. boston pizza and so on. i'd go here more often if i lived in the area. sundays are good deals too, 39 cent wings!

What more to say than that. The food is pretty good but nothing special. Service is good. Pretty quick and always friendly. All in all, it's a fun, upbeat place to eat. My girlfriend and I often order the combo platter and it's always plenty for us and a nice variety. Speaking of which, there's lots of different types of wings. Not just dipping sauces like many pubs but actual marinated, dry-rubbed or basted on flavours.

A good place to go for no reason in particular.

I love this place. I go here often the wings are amazing - probably the best wings in the lower mainland. Ther service is great and the staff is friendly. You also get the best bang for the buck here the rib eye steak is only $13! The steak is made well and presented even better, wouldn't expect that from a place like wings. They recently remodelled it so it looks good too. Great setup for watching the game! Definetly a place to go over and over again.

Winging It
By MARTIAN of SURREY (2 Reviews)
Submitted Friday, August 4, 2006 - 4:09pm [Dine in]

My girlfriend and I have gone here many times and so I feel like we have a pretty good handle of the quality of Wings overall.

Well from the name of the restaurant you can pretty much gather that their specialty is wings. That's the reason why we go and most of the times it doesn't disappoint. If you do venture out to beautiful Surrey (THAT WAS A JOKE) try the Salt and Pepper, Honey Garlic and the new Greek flavor. The Buffalo is good as well but it probably tastes the same as most other places. The thing that makes the wings so good is that they're a fair size and they're juicy. Yes there have been a couple of times where the wings have come out dry but we just chalked that up to brand new cooks.

As for the other things on the menu, we usually get fries or caesar salad on the side and those are quality. We've tried the calamari as well and it is what you expect from a non-Greek restaurant, it's all right.

As for the service...*sigh*...it's hit or miss. It seems like they're constantly getting new waitresses as everytime we go it's always someone new. Sometimes they're reeeeaally slow and sometimes they're good, but we've never gone away saying "wow that was great service." The ambience looks like your typical sports bar.

So if you really love wings you should go. On Sunday's they're 39 cents per wing (used to be 35 cents actually) which is not bad considering how good the wings are. In the downtown location it's 39 cents everyday from 3-6pm. Wing lovers check it out!

Went here on a whim. Turned out to be the right decision. Our server was friendly and very attentive. Never had to wait on anything. For once a waitress actually made us feel welcome to a place. It was a nice change.

The food was actually really good. We had the "shared platter" which was a smattering of different things, kalamari, wings, potato skins etc etc. It was great. Everything was cooked well and each item stood out and held its own. For $18 it filled both of us well and tasted good going down. We also got a pound of wings on the side. Very tasty, well done. Right amount of sauce, right amount of cooking. Good wings are good wings.

All in all it was a great experience.
