For over 80 years now, White Spot has had a passion for using only the freshest and finest quality ingredients. Whether you're joining us for breakfast, lunch, dinner or a late night snack, we look forward to welcoming you every time.
I guess the days of getting excited about White Spot have disappeared, along with almost all their outdoor car service locations.
Prices are higher than elsewhere for basically a pretty plain burger and fries, no doubt due to the union status. They have tried to upscale their menu by adding input from the likes of Umberto Menghi and John Bishop. I'm sorry, but if I am going to spend in the high teens for a creation of theirs, it will be in one of their restaurants. I'll pay more but you get the ambience & service to go with it.
Food is decent and they do offer all you can eat fries, not that I order them anymore. Service is so so, hit and miss.
To me, just a place to grab a not so quick lunch in my opinion.
We arrived just after noon hour to find the restaurant about half full.
This is a downtown White Rock location (officially in South Surrey) so expected a line up.
We were seated and served in a timely manner - but once the food arrived -- the downer began.
I had ordered the NEW NEW NEW offering - a Super Big Burger with all the trimmings + Fries.
The best I can say was that it was without taste AT ALL.
My wife had ordered the Shrimp Sandwich plate and had much the same experience.
Sanitation was tops ..but I fear, we shall not return unless hard pressed.
Seems all the other customers were quite content..could be it was just us......but I doubt that.
I'm often walking uptown to have Eggs Benedict or one of their original creations. It is always delicious, and they are happy to substitute shrimp for ham if I am not in the mood for pig. Always cheerful, attentive service, although the clientèle here do trend towards the elderly and immodest. Still, I will keep coming here -- for $12 you get a substantial and delicious breakfast. I am not so certain that their lunch and dinner offerings have quite won me over yet -- for that I would prefer the nearby Fatburger or Kuroishi.
Remember when White Spot was a sure thing? You'd take out of town guests, and it was almost a treat to have dinner there. I'm not even talking about the olden days, I'm talking about like 6-7 years ago.
My wife went to lunch at this location with one of her friends (+ 2 kids each). They've been eating lunch here for easily 15 years, and would probably have kept going for another 15 but for this experience. I'm not going to do a play-by-play but suffice to say that they were seated in a section that had no server assigned to it, were ignored for over 20 minutes, complained to the manager, were treated horrendously by the server who finally came to the table, and were then blown off by the manager when they complained again after the meal. There is a zero percent chance that they'll ever go back there, and that's saying a lot since they probably eat there combined 20 times a year.
I know that's all anecdotal, and I haven't said one word about the quality of the food (though I know from vast experience with this location to be 2-star), but take note - the quality of staff at all levels in this entire franchise has gone way way south in the last 5 years. If you haven't been in awhile, don't be tempted to return.
I'll make two exceptions - Langley/Willowbrook and North Van/Lonsdale. The food's no better there but at least they remember how to serve the customer.
NEWS FLASH TO WHITE SPOT SENIOR MANAGEMENT!
This White Spot is a blemish on your otherwise improving reputation for good service and value. We visited this location iearly afternoon. The restaurant was nearly empty, yet it was a good three or four minutes before our server arrived. No water was brought to the table, until one in our party asked for it. The server was either having a bad day, or was a poor server. Indifferent and disinterested service. Food was good value, but the experience left much to be desirved. This store needs a major shake-up!
I have eaten in White Spots for many years, but this White Spot continues to be disappointing over time. This evening was probably my last time. My husband and I both had the Fahita for $12.99 each. Turned out to be several small scrawny pieces of (steak of some sort?) perched on top of a huge bed of lettuce that no one could ever eat and accompanied by a couple of messy dollups of sour cream and salsa on top. It was presented in as advertised in a tortilla "bowl"....... that was over cooked and chewy (not crisp).
Time # 1 - Summer, 2009---in our opinion the roasted potatoes tasted musty -unpleasant to everyone in our
party of 4. we complained and were given a talking to by the "person in charge" that they
couldn't be bad or taste bad because all there food came from a major food supplier.
Case closed, I suppose.
Time #2 - Feb 2010- busy time, long wait- we believe it was because of the Olympics.
Chicken pot pie...this time. ...thw two of us. Well, like no other I've had before.
Larger saucer like soupy m---- with some sort of topper--crust I suppose.
We crossed that off our list. Now maybe we ere spoiled because we grew up
with White Spots traditional chicken pot pie....which is not on the menu.
Time # 3.- July 2010- very slow , arrived for a late dinner, party of 3., probably about 9:30.
The door sign states they are open until 11:00 PM
The waitress arrives to seat us and I hving a sore back took longer and she did not even wait until I was properly seated (I was still half way up and half way down due to sciatica) She said something
about a special and then tapped the spot on the menu and she asked about drinks and
I specifically asked for coffee and a glass of water ( to take my tylenol back pill).
She bought the coffees and put my mother's cup in the middle of the table as she was sitting by the window.( I guess it was too much of a strain for her young arms to place it in front of my MOm. My mom who is 97 and half-blind started to grope for her cup and the waitress
then pointed to it on the table. She never even moved it towards her --just pointed and said there is was.
I reached across the table and pushed it toward my Mom . I threw the waitress
a dirty look and asked why she had not bought my water. She took our orders
and later on my water was bought. I used my coffee to take the pill with before the water came
and when the water came asked for more coffee and when it came it was cold and filled only 1 cup half full. My partner asked for fresh hot coffee. I saw her pointing to our table and our male waiter took
over...perhaps she went off shift ! He bought our meals, water and dinners and milk all at once
and with great haste. My partner and I finished our meal and were not offered more coffee and the male
waiter "dropped " the bill in front of him and said, " I'd like you to pay now because we have
carpenters coming in to do work and we have to shut down" My Mom was still eating her dinner
and I mentioned she was still eating. No response. It was 10:25, and in about five minutes
down at the opposite end of the restaurant I saw a fellow apparently rdrillilng a hole in bench.
Mom was told to leave the rest by us while the waiter grabbed my money and whisked by .
She did not understand this hurry. SHe gets out in the good weather only about once a month
and this was a real treat for her. While we were still trying to cope with her confusion, the manager
comes to the table.(while we were trying to pull her coat on, and said "sorry follks but we're going to have to give you the boot now because we have workers coming in" My partner lookedl like he was very upset, but I told him "shh..don't upset mom any further" --so he said nothing to him. Simultaneously the waiter,
dropped the receipt in front of me and my change and said "thanks" and raced off again.
We left, my cell phone phone stated it was 10:31PM and the door stated it was open until 11PM. We were locked in, as well.
My Mom who gets dizzy while walking had to wait all wobbly until the manager came and let us out, you know, the one that was in such a hurry to give us the boot!
I've never had an experience like this in my life , not anywhere in the world.
I might add we were never warned of this restaurant repair and of early need of departure when
we arrived and were seated.
Though they try to make up for it with their service, this resaraunts food choices are at an all time low. White Spot is supposed to have chicken, how many types of chicken do they have? Umm.... About 3! If you enjoy quality service but extreme lack of choice as well as food quality this resaraunt is for you. I am not going back, take tat as you will.
Okay so, me & hubby LOVED the Prawn & Scallop Risotto, that they USED to sell! :(...it was the best meal, so delicious and filling. However on one of our recent visits, they had told us that they no longer sell that dish. That obviously was a shock. We had seen on the menu that there was a dish similar called Seafood Fusilli, so we decided to give that a try. Biggest mistake, it was so bland and tasteless. It did not even look appealing. It looked like something a kid can make. Really flavourless and tasteless. Needless to say, I've been put off for life.
R.I.P Prawn & Scallop Risotto.
