I absolutely love this place. I love the people, I love the food and I love the atmosphere. I always feel very comfortable and welcome when I come in. The people there are very nice and know us very well. Whenever I come in they ask how the family is doing, and are very personable. I do take out quite often and it's fast and packed up nicely. Granted, it is a little more expensive then a lot of places in the area but the quality is really good so I find it worth it. Another nice little touch is the fruit at the end, it's a good end to a delicious meal. I would go again and again... And trust me, I do. :) I would highly recommend.
One of best little sushi places I have ran across in a long time. Close by in cloverdale just off fraser hwy by the new price smart.
Its a jewel only blocks away from home...
I used to drive downtown but no longer..
HIGHLY recommend village sushi, great menu, selection and decor.
Friendly enviroment
Walking in for the first time on a busy night, the restaurant eating area was only half full, but people waiting for takeout made it seem a little chaotic. Took a few minutes to get anyone's attention to seat us, and then waited until someone came around to ask for menus and tea.
Service was a bit sporadic at first, then picked up with a stream of efficiency, but no personality -- no smiling, asking if everything was okay. That adds so much to the ambience of a place and will keep customers coming back.
The food was good, although I've had better at lower prices. Nigiri tuna was very tasty, although the rice underneath was small and wasabi-less. Unagi was good. California rolls were decent and not drowned with mayo. Dynamite rolls, although tasty, were almost too big to fit in your mouth, and for $4.95, you only got 4 rolls. Ebi-sunomono was a good portion and flavourful. Many people were ordering the teriyaki chicken/beef and it looked like a decent portion.
A nice surprise was the small fruit plate for dessert that was complimentary. I guess that's what the higher cost helps pay for... Would consider going back, but to try other items.
I've been to a lot of sushi places, and for the food you receive here, it's not nearly worth the inflated prices. That's not to say the food is bad, because it isn't but it's really just average. We had miso soup (very bad, how do you screw up miso soup?!?) chicken yakisoba, gyoza, spicy tuna roll, avocado roll, and california roll and it was $42 dollars. I'd way rather drive to Nikko's in Langley or even Hero's. Just because it's called Clayton Village doesn't mean you should charge Whistler Village prices.
I started my most recent Japanese food obsession here, and would consistently order the beef teriyaki dinner. It came with some tempura shrimp, california rolls, miso, and rice. But I found that even as take-out, the dinner was more expensive when compared to older, more experienced restaurants in the area. The owners came to know my husband by name, but that couldn't make up for 'ok' quality and high prices. I like to get tasty sushi, with a varied menu, for a reasonable price. I have since changed my weekly visit to another sushi restaurant in Langley. And I don't miss Village Sushi at all.
I just saw the take-out menu, and decided to give a try, since it's only a 2-minute drive from home.
We were seated right away. It's a small sushi place, but it has a nice ambiance. Very neat.
Our server was pleasant. The food didn't take that long. We ordered spicy tuna roll and prawn tempura for appetizers. The tempura was good, but the spicy tuna roll was the best. It's the best spicy tuna roll I've ever had. For the main course, I ordered steak and rice with miso soup. Miso soup was a so-so, it's a little bit salty. Steak was very good. It was juicy, and came with a special sauce. My boyfriend ordered chicken teriyaki, and he liked it. They give generous servings that my boyfriend had to help me finish my food.
Just a little bit pricy compared to other sushi joints. But overall, I can't complain. We're definitely going back.
