I have been here twice, most recently was for my birthday. It was Martini Wed, huge selection of Martini's. Sampled a few, they were excellent - great value on Wednesday's at $3.50 each. Also was pleased to see they had a great Quebec-based beer called Blanche de Chambly on tap - only place where I have found it on tap. Appies were great, I had the prawn special and the goat chees/spinach salad. Large servings. Had seafood for dinner, nice portion and very fresh. The peanut butter cheescake for dessert is fabulous!! Overall, love the atmosphere of The Vault, very busy, friendly staff, neat location, Make sure you get a look at the old bank vault when you take a trip to the bathroom.
Perhaps my review will be skewed by my surprise and delight that a Cloverdale restaurant could have solid food, funky decor and live music. Wait, before you click away, the music wasn't loud or intrusive, or worse, horrible. In fact, we stayed another hour after dinner with drinks enjoying the guitar and stand-up bass combo work through jazz/blues versions of Prestley, Orbison, JJ Cale, Clapton etc.
The entres were tasty, well presented, with a good selection of sides, a familiar wine list (I like that), in a warm room with a vaulted ceiling, but surprisingly (again) not too loud for a conversation.
My Business is in Cloverdale and it is nice to find another good restaurant that we can have a company function at. We'll be back.
The Vault had been recommended to my husband and I over a year ago but we finally decided to try it out last weekend...we are now sorry that we didn't go sooner!
I started with a strawberry margarita that was well made, very tasty. We shared a couple of appetizers, I choose the smoked salmon wonton...it was delish. Smoked salmon, capers, red onions on a square wonton drizzled with a dijon aioli...simple and delightful. My husband had the calamari, it was good as well. Hot crusty bread with butter lightly flavoured with garlic was then served. For dinner, I had the mixed seafood grill...a portion of wild salmon, prawns & scallops drizzled with a hoisin sweet chilli sauce. This was served with grilled veggies and a white/wild rice mixture. This meal was simply divine! Husband had the chicken breast in a creamy mushroom sauce. Garlic mashed potatoes and grilled veggies were the accompaniments. His meal was also very good. We both were very pleased...in addition to the awesome food, the ambiance and decor of the restaurant was really neat plus the service was outstanding. Can't wait until we go back!
They had allot of room but chose to sit us at a tiny two person table too close to the bar , my girlfriend kept getting bumped . I enjoyed the wine but it was to exspesive so we just had one , I enjoyed the food but it was so small and exspensive ,we had to go to wendy's afterword because we were still hungry . Nice place just to exspensive for what you get , We won't go there again .
Heard good things but between being pretty average tasting food (for the price tags they were paired with) and being asked to leave shortly after our bills had been paid, I wasn't impressed and wouldn't go back. The decor was not my thing but tasteful/modern and the service was pretty average (nothing that leapt out for me).
I went to the Vault a year ago and had a great meal, it was delicious and was exactly what was described on the menu.
Went last night, it was pretty gross. Everything else was fine, just the food wasn't.
First we started off with the same appy as last year, the scallops. It tasted like they were cooked in an OXO beef cube sauce. The scallops were cooked okay though.
I ordered the same thing as last year for my main because I loved it so much then. I ordered the Seafood hot pot. It also tasted like it was cooked in a OXO beef cube, and it was very very salty. I actually poured my water in to it, to try and drown the salt taste a bit. I wondered why it tasted like beef when it was supposed to be a red curry broth? Besides the spice all I could taste was salt and beef broth. The red snapper that was in it, was completely brown all the way through (from soaking in some beef sauce I think), I actually thought it was beef! My mussels were very tiny as well. And I only had three of them. Not worth the $17.99 I paid.
Service was pretty good though at least. But I don't think I'll be going back. I'll just make my own seafood hot pot at home.
We recently moved to Langley so we were excited when we heard about this near-by restaurant & thought we'd give it a try. We saw some gift certificates in Costco - we paid about $75 for $100 in gift certificates, so it seemed like a great way to get a discount on dinner.
Dinner was great - we took the advice of earlier reviews and both had tenderloin steak that came with amazing garlic mashed potatoes - yummmm!!! I had a fantastic martini on recommendation of our server - it was a sour apple. I find some restaurants have watered down martinis, but this one definately wasn't - it was just perfect.
Unfortunately our service was just ok. Not terrible, but certainly not close to downtown high-end restaurant quality the night we were there. Having said that... this isn't a downtown high end restaurant - so if you go in with the right expectations, its a great night out. We'll definately be back... & if I see Costco gift certificates again, I'll be picking them up.
You might want to ensure you make a reservation - we went on a Monday night between Christmas and New Years & it was packed.
I came to the vault with my girlfriend because I heard good things from friends. I must say I was quite impressed. The pasta which I had was nothing really that special, just something generic that you would probably be able to find at any place that sells a decent plate of pasta, but the steak was incredible. Although the portion was small, the garlic mashed potatoes were a perfect complement to the delicious filet cut. After dinner we had the suggested peanut butter pie, and at first I was puzzled at this dish, but after taking a bite it has become one of my top dessert choices. To top the night off there was live music playing and quite the assortment of interesting wall decoration!
My fiancé and I visited the Vault in March on a Friday evening. We took our chances and didn’t have a reservation. We went at around 6:30 pm and there was one last table for us in the lounge area so we took it. The restaurant was packed ! I will definitely make reservations next time to sit in the main dining room …. the two huge plasma tvs showing the hockey game in the lounge area were a bit of a distraction to my fiancé lol.
We used our entertainment coupon for $18 value. I got the salmon and fiancé got the steak both meals were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G !! I couldn’t believe how good the food was. I had heard great things about the restaurant but didn’t expect it to be this good. The service was A+. Our server was very friendly, attentive and polite. We highly recommend this restaurant. Keep up the good work !
Recently I have celebrated two birthdays at The Vault. Both times everyone thought their food and service was excellent including my sister-in law who is the picky one. Seafood mix grill is my favorite. The only downside is their dessert selection is lacking for dessert lovers. The Vault has a Yaletown feel with out the outrages pricing or the snobby servers. We have recommended The Vault to all our friends and will be returning soon.
