My friends and I came here for a birthday as it was snowing and we decided to stay close to home. For Surrey, I must say that this is probably the best looking "downtown feel" type lounge in terms of looks. However, it was quite dead on a Saturday night. The crowd was a mix of everyone - from barely legal kids to 50 year olds.
Drinks were okay, but nothing really innovative or special and lacked finesse. I wasn't impressed with their martinis (tiramisu and a candy one that tasted like kool aid), which were just an overly sugary concoction with alcohol added in. Gin and tonic was better but not great - I think the ratio was a little bit off.
Our server was fantastic though, smiling and making jokes as well as bringing us drinks when we needed them.
Overall, probably won't be back unless we were in the neighbourhood.
We've eaten here twice already and both times were fantastic. The quality of the food was excellent - much better than we had expected and the staff was great. We had the beef carpaccio appy which was amazing and burgers for supper. Desert was great too - not sure why there are such poor reviews on here as both times we left extremely satisfied.
Visited Ulounge recently to try something new even though friends had expressed their opinions on why I shouldn't, but I gotta learn the hard way. I found the ambiance to be very sterile and unwelcoming - everything was white and it felt being in a hospital waiting room.
The menu was mediocre at best. Looks as though they couldn't decide if they wanted to be a restaurant or a pub. Food selection was not very original or creative. Could easily get the same style food at one of the established restaurants where I know I'll have a great time.
Service was an absolute joke. Nobody to greet us on the way in, place was empty when we got there and we stood at the entrance for a couple minutes trying to determine if it was even open before someone finally told to sit wherever we wanted. about 5 mins later the server came by and dropped off menus and took drinks. Dinner order took forever to be served which is strange because we were 1 of maybe 3 tables in the place. To top it all the food was lukewarm, but we figured it we said anything it would be another 30 mins to get it replaced. Our server seemed very uninterested and un-wanting to be there as she most of the night talking to the bartender and seemingly doing nothing.
Sum it all up... I learned the hard way to stay away from this place. If you can't get it right when it's slow can you imagine how awful it would be on a busy night. Save your time and money.
I went to ulounge a while ago but forgot the experience as fast as leaving through the really big doors...the place itself looks very trendy and downtownish ( i know its not a word..but you get it)...the service for a place that small should be outstanding...how can you hide?...apparently we did...in the middle of the resturant where the hostess sat us...ordered a couple of appies...good, small but good..I had their prime rib dinner, what a dissapointment, 26 bucks for 10 dollars worth of fat and gristle..was on a pretty plate tho...next time ill go to rustys.
After forgetting to take our reservation (for a 25+ group) no one called back . Then after speaking with 2 different people and leaving 1 message, we finally got a reservation confirmed.
The look and feel of this venue is all that is going for it. We had a large group so were seated in a semi-private room whith sheer drapes to close us off from the bar area. It was a bit small for our group but we made it work.
The service was slow and only 1 server for approximately 25 people (quite possibly more). The server also completely lost track of the bills and a number of my guests (myself included) were approached by her at the end of the night to pay for straggling drinks that she didnt know who had ordered them.
They also added 18% gratiuity on every bill (which was WAY over what she deserved) but lacked to tell everyone so many ended up tipping on top of that.
The Tuna melt made one of my guests physically sick that night, the bartender was snarky when I asked for a glass of water (I guess you only get polite service from her if you purchase alcohol), we had the police squad run through and harass everyone for id.
This was way too much hassle to deal with and a complete rip off. The bills left at the end turned out to have already been paid, so at least 2 bills were paid twice (with over 18% tip unknowingly) The worst customer service I have ever received. From start to finish this experience was a disaster and everyone in my party was sadly dissapointed.
I have been to this place a few times now and wanted to experience it all from busy to normal days. I have to say that it's a lounge/bar but no where near fine or average dining standards. The menu features some decent dishes but only to visually satisfy your pallet. On a Saturday night, try getting past a line up to have food or drinks. What turned out initially to be as the most buzzing place in South Surrey at inception is just an average bar now. The only thing going for this place is the ambience. The crowd is teeny bopper as well. A great alternative is the Cactus Club which delivers constantly.
Well like everyone else here has said - the building and interior design is really nice, and that's about it. A group of 15 of us went last week for a xmas party, and I don't think I've ever come across such a rude, poorly trained, and generally bitter staff. I truly think they actually HATE working there, because that's the vibe they give off.
Average to slightly below-average food, like you'd get at a lower end pub, expensive drinks, and slooooowwww, confused service was the theme of the night.
I think there was only one waitress for our entire section, which must have had over 50 people in it. The service just got ridiculous at some points, including meals that never arrived (but we were charged for), drinks that took 30 minutes (no exaggeration), and a waitress actually telling us "it's not her problem"!? Oh and I shouldn't forget the bottle of wine delivered and left on the table, unopened? Apparently they couldn't find a corkscrew!
As a nice end to our evening, we got the bill which had an 18% tip already attached to it, which was ridiculous. I know that it's hard to serve large groups, and I wouldn't have had a problem if the service was even just competent. But to give someone a reward for basically ruining what should have been a very relaxing and fun evening, just doesn't make sense. The manager didn't agree with us though.
Icing on the cake - the police gang squad came through as we were leaving, as they have EVERYTIME I've ever been there, which is 5 times.
I was hoping Ulounge would get better as time went on, but unfortunately it's getting worse. I think this is probably the worst service I've had in the south surrey area.
We came here for lunch on a Friday. The decor is very modern and upscale. The menu is limited but creative. We ordered pakora prawns, very tasty and presentation was beautiful, a pulled pork sandwich, and a salad, also very tasty and well thought out. Wine was expensive. Service was prompt and attentive. I would come back. But if the prices were more reasonable I would come back more often.
I saw ULounge when going to Montana’s. The place looked spectacular from the outside.
When I first got there I was a little intimidated by the bouncers. The waitresses were extremely friendly. I had the Herb Halibut with Yam fries, although I am not the biggest fan of fish, it came highly recommended by the waitress. The food came quite quickly with big portions and it almost looked too good to eat. This was the most unique dish I have had in a long time, definitely going back for another.
The room was full of tons of people all seemed to be having a good time. I had a couple drinks and had a chance to catch the Cancucks game on there billion inch projection screen.
This would be a good place to bring a date or hang out with friends during the weekend.
Overall: Highly recommended!
We went into ULounge last weekend and just wanted to say what an awesome time we had!!! We were there as a group of 4 girls and had sooo much fun, especially when the dance floor started! The ambiance and music was perfect, the food was yummy and the drinks were delicious!
It's nice to finally have an upscale place to go without having the hassle of driving downtown and without the standardness of a cactus or earls
I will say, that when the ULounge first opened, the service wasn't up to snuff, however, this has definitely improved! All of our drinks arrived quickly as did the food (the boneless wings in salt and pepper were awesome)
We will be definitely returning to shake it on the dance floor again!!!
I think i've been to ULounge enough times over the last few months to finally post a review and give an honest recommendation to check this place out - The room speaks for itself - when im there I feel like im in New York -- Each time I go I seem to notice suttle changes to the menu - but I think they are headed in the right direction because the food continues to be amazing -- I must admit service was definitely an issue when they first opened - but things have progressively gotten better - The best part is that I don't have to drive 45min to have a Lounge/Night club experience with my friends.
If you haven't checked out ULounge your are missing out!!
Went to check out the talked about ULounge to really get a grasp on what exactly it was. We called for reservations this past Friday and were informed that they do not take reso's for there main room however they could accomodate larger parties in either of there 2 semi private rooms with proper notice. Anyhow we decided to take our chances and showed up around 8pm for dinner and drinks!
First off what an amazing room! It felt like we were in Las Vegas. Menu looked pretty solid with a variety of options. We decided on a few of there 'share plates' specifically the avocado rolls and prawn pakoras. Both were very tasty and presented very well.
After speaking to our server she informed us that ULounge was a bar and not just a restaurant, in fact no children or minors are permitted anywhere in the room! This was evident in the crowd that was there...great mix of people of adults in all age brackets.
We ventured into there private rooms and were very impressed with what we saw. Great for cocktail parties and get togethers where you can mingle amongst your group.
All in all this place should do fantastic. Beautiful room, good food and great location. Great addition to South Surrey and we are looking forward to coming back.
Visited South Surrey’s ULounge on the weekend as part of a party of approximately 20 men and women, ranging from late 40’s to mid-60’s. The cuisine was fine although the dinner entree menu was a little limited, same number of appetizers and burgers as there were entrees. I ordered the roast chicken entree, which came with a smaller, (although acceptable) portion of beautifully prepared and delicious chicken and vegetables, $24. Glass of Domaine de Chaberton Pinot Gris, $8. With tax and gratuity, dinner came to $39. The restaurant is well set up for dinner with two or four persons. However, for a dinner party, it is not a place I’d recommend. We were seated in their party room whose décor, while very stylish in design, leaves something seriously lacking in the way of practical comfort. I was seated on one of the wall-hugging white banquettes, but those seated across from me only had low, very soft, ottomans to sit on. No attempt was made by the staff to make the room’s table placement more conducive to a group setting. Our reservations were for 6pm, and the staff booked the room again for 8pm. Promptly at 8pm, the lights were turned off in our room, so that we were seated in semi-darkness while reading our bills. A 15% gratuity was automatically added to the bill, normal for large parties, but none of the servers notified us that the tip had already been added to the bill. While some of us suggested we find a nice lounge to visit with each other for a while longer, no one suggested that we move out into the main area of the ULounge. I believe that says it all.
