Small reasonably priced Japanese restaurant serving sushi and cooked foods.
This is the best place for Japanese food in North Surrey, there are three surrounding Japanese restaurants in the area and they don't compare to this place. The prices are reasonable, and they actually have good service. The owner's aren't Japanese but the food is solid and tastes good.
My favorite here is the avocado roll. I also like their salmon terriyaki bento box. Their sashimi salad is refreshing for summer.
Their service is some of the best I've experienced in an Asian restaurant. It seems to be a well-run family business.
The annoying thing about this place is lack of parking.
This is a flashy little strip mall japanese restaurant with a full kitchen. They have at most seating for 10 people and not comfortably at that limit. In summer you can smell all the ciagrette smoke and car exhaust while sitting outside.
We have tried back to this restaurant may times to see if it gets any better but it doesn't. This is over a period of about 10 years.
I absolutely love my tamago nigiri (Egg) and Ebi nigiri but when I have gone to this place the egg is frozen with ice crystals each time. I'm not talking just cool but iced. The prawns do not get cleaned well at all and often have the sandy intestinal string still in them. It really makes me gag seeing that.
I really don't care that they offer fancy rolls and more cooked dishes, I want my food edible when I am paying a premium. It doesn't come that way for us, at this place.
It might be a decorated but scaled down version of a bigger place, but that doesn't take away from the fact the food can be very ordinary or miss.
I have had sushi from many different restaurants in all cities in the lower mainland so I know Tokyo Sushi Express is excellent. Every new restaurant I go to I compare it to Tokyo and when ever I am in Surrey I make sure I make a detour to this restaurant. I used to live 1 block from the restaurant so me and by boyfriend would usually order about once a week. There has been a time or two where the sushi was not up to par but out of probably over 100 times I have ordered from here 99% of it was excellent. They even have a customer card that for every $10 before tax you get a stamp, after 10 stamps you get a free California roll. It know tis now much but I have not been to any other sushi places that offer this perk. The price of the sushi is average and worth every penny. They have this special Tokyo Sushi spicy sauce that they use in some of their rolls, such as the newton roll, that is like no other. The service is always great and I have never had to wait more than 20 minutes (when they are really busy) for a take out order. The restaurant itself is small so you cant really take a large party their, but for 4 or less per table its ok. The restaurant caters more to take out so don't expect amazing decor.
Over all this restaurant is a sure bet for excellent food and service.
