Established since 1996, Taste Nice has become the peoples choice for Jamaican cuisine in Vancouver, British Columbia. The warm family atmosphere is complemented by the array of different Jamaican/Caribbean dishes that are provided. Open Mon-Sat 12:00pm-9:00pm.
I dream about the patties from here! They are the best patties found in the lower mainland!
These patties are on the larger side, the pastry is crisp at the edges without being too greasy.
The generous filling is perfectly spiced, and flavourful without a chili burn. There is plenty of moist filling with ground beef or chicken or a veggie filling option.
We always do take-away patties from here, they are made in-house at the restaurant.
I've had the goat curry before, which was pretty decent... but I don't know what the heck they thought they could pawn off to customers as "Jerk Chicken". First of all, real jerk chicken is grilled, not broiled. Real Jerk Chicken has skin on it... As well, it's a whole chicken leg, not a chicken thigh. It's not gooped up with some "jerk sauce concoction" on top of it. I was very disappointed this time...
I wanted goat curry, but they had run out of it. I had to settle for chicken which was served just warm. The server was friendly, but that does not make food taste any better.
The curry was not up to standard of most Jamaican restaurants. The worst part is that the prices are exorbitant. $12 for a small portion. I'm used to paying less than 10 bucks for large portions in places like commercial drive.
The verdict: not worth your time and money.
I wish there were other choices in Surrey.
This is a very good Caribbean Restaurant. Me and my family have eaten from here on numerous occasions. The food is excellent; the ambiance is very nice, clean and comfortable. I would gladly recommend this restaurant to anyone without any hesitant...
Satisfied Customer
I have been here a number of times over the years. It has been consistently good. The curried chicken w/ roti is particularly good. The service is okay, but not great. It is a family run business and the waiters can get a bit lacksdaisical.
This is a family-run, authentic Jamaican stop. Everything is cooked fresh and in-house. The patties are the best I've had, period (and I used to live in Montreal, near all the Caribbean restaurants). None of the usual greasy, previously frozen fluorescent yellow mess most places serve. The dough is made fresh in house, and the patties are baked on site.
The escoviched red snapper is my favourite fish dish, bar none. You'll also find the usual Jamaican fare of fantastic jerk chicken, oxtail, along with some curried goat, chicken, beef, or veggie plates.
Don't miss this place, it's a hidden gem.
I have been there 3 times and each time the service is poor, the food is very over rated and the staff dosn't seem to care about the place. I find the food plain and microwaved, more so the patties, nothing special. I have been to may Jamacian and Soul food places and this place has missed the mark, I hope they get the basics right before it is to late!
