Our first clue that we should perhaps have chosen another lunch spot than the Soho Bar and Grill was the shoddy finishing of the furniture and décor – the back of one of our chairs was broken, and the trim moulding was detached and falling from the wall. Between that and the chipped paint and broken shutters, and no server greeting customers, the place had the appearance of a soon-to-be empty space and in urgent need of refurbishment. Although there were only four other customers, it took longer than necessary before the server finished her conversations (on the phone and then with two customers at the bar) and brought us menus and later returned to take our order. Some of the beers we chose (both draft and bottled) were not available as supplies had run out. Several minutes after our lunch order had gone in, the cook came out of the kitchen to get money from the server from the till – to go to the nearby Safeway for supplies? After another long spell, our order appeared (nachos and a butter chicken wrap with fries) and the waitress apologized for the long delay. The fries appeared (and tasted) like they had been refried more than twice, and in old and/or cold oil. They were overcooked, dark brown, greasy shells, with little evidence of any potato inside. The wrap was a dry, crumbling tortilla with a filling of chicken pieces, some sort of semi-moist dressing, and curry powder . A far cry from the advertised "butter chicken". A decidedly untasty dish with dry, bitter curry powder being the predominant flavour. The nachos seemed good at first, but then near the bottom, hiding under some cold melted cheese was a large blob of messy-looking sour cream. It really looked like the bottom section of the plate had been recycled from a previous diner’s leftovers, and put us off eating any more. When we told the server, she said she doubted they were recycled... as she hadn’t served any other nachos that day. Needless to say, we will not be returning, and were greatful not to be feeling ill the next day.
