Just getting started - a few glitches

This place is in the old ABC restaurant location. The inside has been tastefully redecorated, very open and clean lines, darker colours. For a fish & chips joint, the premises are upscale.

Having noticed the renovations and having seen an ad or two in the local papers, the Other Half and I were looking forward to trying out a new fish & chips place. Their opening day was Aug 21, we went there for lunch on the 22nd.

Greeted and seated promptly and pleasantly. Not very many people there at 12:30 on a Sunday, but it was getting much busier as we were leaving.

Ordered a couple of pale ales (on tap), and looked over the very basic menu. As well as fish & chips, they offer donairs on pita or naan and veggie pakoras. (THAT was a bit of an "uh-oh" moment, but a trial run is a trial run.) We ordered halibut & chips, only to find out that they were "sold out" of halibut. Apparently the first day was VERY busy indeed... Changing our focus slightly, we ordered cod & chips.

The service seemed at once to be over-eager AND disorganized. A new restaurant, new staff - it's understandable.

The food - fish was very fresh, fries/chips were excellent. The batter was a bit soggy, but acceptable. The tartar sauce was standard. There wasn't any coleslaw.

The owners/managers have put a great deal of effort into this venture. They ARE British, or at least their accent is... They seemed surprised by the suggestion that ketchup be put on the tables, but were open to the idea. Maybe ketchup isn't a table condiment in British "chippies"....? I also mentioned that most fish & chip places around here put a small serving of coleslaw on the plate. Again, surprised looks, but I think it is probably a cultural thing.

Value? Prices seemed a bit high, but not outrageously so.

Overall, a clean new look, friendly people, good fish & chips. I'll give them a few weeks to "settle down", and then I will definitely go again.

Ive been wanting to try this place for a while but im not always in a fish n chips mood , but when a friend who went there told me the guys who own it moved there from england and they also served donairs it made the short list.

So i finally went in tonight nice big clean restaurant with more of a pub feel than a restaurant feel which in my opinion makes for a nice environment . The service was fast and friendly it wasnt super busy but i thought their were quite a few people for a rainy thursday night at a restaurant named saturday . The food was good i had the lamb donair on naan the meat was nice the bread was cooked well and came out warm and the veggies were fresh and cool and the sauce was refreshing. I also tried the soup of the day which was veggie and bacon it seemed to be freshly made and was very tasty.

I actually found the prices on the reasonable side $4.99 for a beer is affordable and most of the donairs were below $10 and the fish and chips were $11 for cod and like $15 for halibut which is about the same as a donair or fish in chips shack except this is a clean sit down restaurant.

Incase it isnt obvious i would definitely recommend people give this place a try.

Well I've been here 3 times in the past week. The first time I had the cod and chips. Te best fish and chips I've had in a long time. Large portions, the fish was tender with a nice light crispy batter the fries are simply incredible. I think they must use a similar batter but I just can't get enough of the fries. Second time I ordered the chicken donair in naan. The meat was seasoned perfectly and again it was a good sized donair heavy on the chicken they're definitely not skimping here. Today I had the lamb and naan donair and same ting good size portion and incredibly tasty. This place needs to be visited if you're in te surrey north delta area

Amazing

I found out about this new restaurant from a close friend who was raving about it for a couple of weeks, so I thought I would go and check it out with another buddy of mine.
When I walked in I was truly impressed at how nice this place looked, it is not a normal thing to see in Surrey unless you go to a big chain like Cactus/Earls ects. The setup is good as you can clearly see there is a more family orientated half and then the bar/ lounge half. We were contemplating sitting in the private room in front of the big screen, but there was only NFL on so we deiced to just get a comfy booth.
We got a couple of beers and decided to start with chicken wings, as the server recommended them. While we waited we deiced to both order the cod & chips. The wings arrived and they looked really good, they had a crispy dry breaded coating (not what I am used to seeing when I order wings). The wings were amazing, the chicken was a nice thick piece's and they were seasoned just right. The wings are unique and very good, I recommend them.
Then our entrée's came out and it was a nice thick piece of cod, the fries or should I say chips looked good they were thick cut and had orange coat, I asked the server what that was and he told me it was a 'thin batter coating'. They were some of the best fries I have ever eaten. The one thing I was not happy with was there was no coleslaw, but hey no ones perfect. The Cod was perfect, this batter was very thin and crispy and there was no grease, you get your money's worth.

This place is very good, I will be back probably to watch the next Canucks game. They need to get a little busier, but that will come slowly as they have only been open for 2 months.

Disappointed !!

After hearing so much about this place we decided to try fish and chips on Saturday afternoon. Ordered halibut and it was rubbery...tasteless and expensive. There were couple of young couples sitting at the bar and being noisey ! You cant run a business like that. Bad experience and the last visit to this place.
Owners boasts from Englnad, UK. But sorry to say that their fish and chip receipe is no where near UK fish and chips.

After reading the other reviews for this restaurant my boyfriend and I decided to head to Saturdays to try their donairs. Place was silent. Not a soul in there. We look at the menu and decide on the chicken on naan donair. Where I come from a donair is supposed to have a ton of garlic flavour. Fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and onions but that is not at all what I received. It was a piece of naan which was fine however the chicken was more of a stringy paste that tasted moreso like it had salty indian flavours in it. I could recognize the lettuce but they called it "salad" on the menu. I could not make out any cucumbers or tomatoes. Really could not taste the sauce whatever is was. Just tasted like an Indian version of a greek specialty. To add fries to the donair it was an extra 3.50 for a small helping of fresh fries. One donair and fries was $14. Cant lie, felt totally unsatisfied and sorta ripped off at the end of it all. Would recommend the fries as being fresh and tasty but the donair I would not want to eat again. Was hoping this was going to be my new favorite takeout spot. :(
