Thai Restaurant in central Guildford.
We were happy to find a nice little Thai place called Sabai with a nice little set up. To our dissapointment the food we ordered was in small quantities (meat as well as vegetables) and while it tasted OK, we felt it was highly overpriced. Also the dishes don't come with rice...........how are you suppose to eat asian food without rice? We ordered a small bowl of rice and really it was a very small bowl and the cost was $1.50. Even more appalling was the fact that tea cost $1.75 a cup. We are talking plain Jasmine tea which you could probably buy a box of 100 for $2. The owner's answer to that was that we pay for service and china it was served in and not really the tea itself!!
to summarize we weren't expecting chinese style quantities, however, for the money they are charging the dishes, the portions should be double the size and rice and tea should be included and if not it should cost a third of what they charge. All in all we would not go back nor can we recommend it to anyone.
I came upon some reviews here while trying to search for Sabai Thai as I was going to order some food for takeout. I have never submitted a review but felt compelled to do it now. First off before I continue I have actually been to Thailand...three times. I have also dined at at least three other Thai restaurants.
Sabai Thai is not only good food, the ladies running it know how to cook authentic Thai food. Believe me I know. I came back three years ago from Thailand and was disappointed with the choices in Thai restaurants when I stumbled on to this restaurant. I was pleasantly surprised. The only thing I could suggest in order to make it more authentic is to ask for it to be a little spicy. This is easy to do when ordering. The tea they serve is also excellent. I don't know where they get it but it is very good and very authentic. The food may be slightly over priced but don't let that dissuade you. I would suggest seriously giving this restaurant a try.
Very highly recommended from someone that has actually been in Thailand.
For Thai food, I would say that this is a pretty great restaurant to eat at! They have a lunch specials menu where the meals are $8.99. Very great deal for what you're getting. I work close to this area and tons of folks from the office eat here regularly. Good variety of dishes, but absolutely love the curries!
I absolutely lucked out when I searched online for a Thai food restaurant in the "Guildford" area in Surrey, BC. I chose the restaurant solely by location, and a craving for Thai food. I was nervous when I went in to pick up my take-out order because the restaurant was not busy, but learned quickly how looks can be deceiving. I picked the Chicken & Cashew Dish, with a side of Jasmine Rice. I have to say "It was OUTSTANDING"! There was tons of flavor, and lots of sauce to soak into the rice. I was initially taken aback by the amount of peppers, but they were cooked to perfection, and there was lots of chicken and cashews to balance out the peppers. For one person the price was a touch high, but my order could easily have fed two people, so it would have been a super deal for two. Well done Subai Thai!!!!
I have been to this little gem at least half a dozen times within the last year. As soon as I enter the front door it is Chaing Mai all over again. Not only is the decor straight from the restaurants of Thailand but even better is the food. This is authentic Thai food. My favorite is the green curry and the best green papaya salad north of the equator. The servers are graciuos and soft spoken. I will return again and again for this experience. Cop coon Ca, Sabai Thai
I live in Surrey and this is one of my favorite restaurants. Best Thai food in town, without a doubt. The lunch specials are awesome-- great deal for your buck. $7.99 gets you a yummy dish with rice, salad, and a spring roll. My favorite is the red curry and their pad thai is to die for. Service is always quick, polite, and attentive. Try the Thai ice tea, you'll love it.
