Thai Restaurant in central Guildford.
Went here with my friend for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. There are about 10 dishes on the special lunch menu for $7.99. I had the spicy chicken with rice and a spring roll. My friend had the green curry chicken with rice and a spring roll. The food was hot and tasty. Well presented and the service was attentive and polite. This place is great for a thai fix. I would recommend to others.
Good thai food and good service. This place is always my first choice for thai in surrey mainly because there aren't many other places close by with good Thai (although Krua Thai in North Vancouver isn't bad either)
The dishes look small but are surprisingly quite filling. Recommended: appetizer platter that gives a little taste of everything (especially for first timers), Chef's special duck in red curry with grapes/pinapple/cherry tomatos (C2 on the menu), green apple salad, papaya salad. The only disappointment was the pad thai -- not that it wasn't authentic, just that the noodles seemed too soft for my liking.
The ambiance is good -- servers are always dressed impeccably in Thai outfits or professionally in a suit or neat manner. Little details like fresh flowers and tealights on each candle brings this restaurant to the next level (not just any small family run eatery)
Also, I think "dbentley" may have been thinking of the wrong restaurant as Sidney is in Victoria, not in Surrey.
I work in surrey and i luv thai food. My coworker knew the owner of this place and he hugely recommended me going. I'm glad i took his advice! This place offers the best green curry i've ever tried, i especially like the eggplant, really delicious!!!!
The other dishes are decent, but nth is comparable to its green curry (in my opinion anyway)
Location is excellent, right across from london drugs at guildford mall, so parking is easy.
Ambiance is pretty good as well, i like its thai decorations up on the wall.
Service is attentive.
Price is very reasonable, $10 for curry.
it's definitely worth a try!
Very glad we tried this place for the first time - we'll be back again and again.
There's probably no reason why we couldn't give food and service a five - it was that good. Will hold out calling this place incredible for a few more visits. The hot and sour soup was delicious as was the shredded green papaya salad.
If you've been thinking about trying this place - do it - you won't be disappointed.
If I had one complaint it would be that when you ask for food hot (spicy) it doesn't meet my expectation of "hot" (although that's not uncommon at many places).
Just really liked this restaurant and pleased to have something this good close to home.
I went here a few weeks ago based on the review by a friend.
Ordered the pad thai, red curry, a Thai beer & deef fried banana with mango ice cream for dessert. All of the food was great, especially the pad thai and the fried banana. (I actually am still craving the fried banana).
The service was great, as they made sure everything was okay, and re-filled our water glasses many times.
I definitely see myself eating here again or even ordering takeout!
I will definetly go here again.
Their lettuce wraps and Pad Thai were fantastic, and I tried the Thai Iced Tea, which is addictive!
Nice atmosphere, easy to get to and find, good service. Highly recommended.
The food at Sabai Thai is surprisingly good, considering its location! We've tried many of the dishes on the menu and most are quite solid. The only bad experience we've had was with the yellow curry with vegetables. The prices are very reasonable, set about $1-2 less per dish than most Thai restaurants in Vancouver. Service is usually quite friendly and attentive. Definitely one of the better restaurants in Guildford.
Thai food in the region is ridiculously overpriced, I have a friend who can cook this stuff to perfection. The place is nice, and service is superb. The biggest issue with Sabai Thai is the extent to which they try to gouge you...was floored when I ordered the Curry and was told rice would be extra. Ridiculous, every restaurant I've gone to includes rice... because a) it's part of of the dish, and b) it's cheap to serve.
went there for dinner 2 days ago with family, and do not think i will return anytime soon. Overall, the place is crowded and the service was not the best. we had to wait for a considerable amount of time before we got to order, our water glass was never refilled, and the waitress demanded more tip. the food was just average,( although the pad thai was a bit too salty), it came in small portions and in my opinion, a bit overpriced. The rice came separately, and costed $2 each bowl, which was really really little. ON the top, the rice had this yellow color.. maybe overcooked? Anyways, i wouldn't say it was thrilling experience. I've always loved Thai food, but this time, it really disappointed me.
I went to this restaurant with around 10 people for lunch recently. I did not find that the taste of my noodle dish (lunch special) particularly appetizing. The portions were okay for a small person but is unlikely filling for someone larger. The lunch specials are around $8 + tax+tip. The food seemed to take a long time to come out to us perhaps because we were a large group. Furthermore, the restaurant messed up one of my colleagues orders but she accepted the dish anyways. I would not go to this restaurant again.
Very friendly staff, hi quality and authenticity of the food, music, decor and attire create a wonderful Thai experience. I've recommended this gem to many friends and co-workers who were not disappointed that they gave it a try.
Very clean...I always look at the bathroom which I think reflects what goes on in the kitchen.
I would definitely recommend the Phad Thai and all the curries.
Okay, I live right across the street from this place and I love Thai food! I have been there (eating in and taken out) at least . . . 40 times. What I said in my title is true we have never been unhappy after eating there! Simply amazing, the noodle dishes and the curry’s are my favourites also the soups!!! Don’t forget to try the fried banana desert!!! Not that you'll have room for it . . .!
Sabai Thai has the best Thai food in Surrey and is very reasonable priced. We have been to Sabai Thai over 20 times and each times has been enjoyable experience. I would recommend the wonton appetizer and cashew chicken.
Sabai Thai is, hands down, my favorite restaurant. While my favorite food is actually sushi, you can't find better food presentation, customer service, and overall satisfaction for your dollar anywhere other than Sabai Thai.
I went there for the first time after reading reviews on the internet a while ago. I had lived just down the road from there for several years (thank GOD I didn't find out about this place sooner......) and I thought I'd check it out.
Needless to say, I was blown away. I love Thai food, but this was about more than the food. It was the simple things like the traditional Thai music playing in the background, and the extremely friendly service.
And the FOOD. Bless the food. I've now had their lettuce wraps, red curry, green curry, pad thai (my personal favorite) and I don't remember the name but it's a spinach dish with oyster sauce. All absolutely fantastic, well worth the money. The first time I was there I ordered some sort of deep fried tofu appetizer - That is the only somewhat disappointing thing I've ever had there. And it wasn't BAD, it just wasn't mindblowing like the other dishes.
If you like Thai food, or have never had it, GO HERE. And I'll repeat what someone else recommended (and I listened, thank god).....GET THE THAI ICED TEA. It's what they serve in heaven, I guarantee it.
Our family has been eating thai food for years and after reading the reviews for this restaurant on this website, we decided to give it a try. It was the six of us and we ordered a soup, five entrees and a drink. The Thai Caesar was nothing spectacular, and the soup was sour but not spicy. For the price of the soup, we were expecting a bit more - in terms of both quality and quantity. The portion of soup was only enough to serve four, and there were only three prawns in total. We asked the server to recommend a dish and she recommended the chicken cashews. It was just as disappointing as all the other dishes. Food was mediocre, we finished everything because we were hungry. Food was served in small plates (I guess in an attempt to make the food portions look bigger?) and five entrees were barely enough food for the six of us. There was an automatic gratuity of 15% added to the bill because we were a party of six - not that we would have minded but the fact that it was never mentioned to us until the bill was presented doesn't seem to be a very good business practice.
Final bill came to $120 - not outrageous but given the taste and amount of food and level of service, we won't be returning.
Me and my boyfriend were really excited to try out this Thai restaurant since we live in Surrey. However, the food wasn't really that great.... My boyfriend's mom makes thai food and hers is just amazing! Contrary to all the positive reviews about this place, it was such a let down that we ended up leaving and picking up some fast food after dinner. The service is was pretty good though.
Food is decent but way over priced and portion sizes are way too small. Service is not that great, just like one of the reviewers below said, they take too long to come get your order. I mean, the restaurant is pretty small, the service shouldn't be that slow. It seems like you have to be a regular there to get great customer service.
ANOTHER thing which disgusted me was, do not sit on the small tables near the windows (closest to the door), it is like infested with ants. I saw like 10+ ants crawling around the table and window.
Overall, probably won't be returning.
I've dined here on a number of occassions. The service and ambiance is good. The only thing I would say is the food is generally quite good except a couple of times we got take out when the restaurant was packed. The food quality seemed to drop somewhat. However overall the food is good and authentic. The dinner servings and prices are slightly higher than Thai House. But you have to be willing to pay a little premium for good Thai food if you don't want to leave Surrey.
Just went for lunch. Nice food, nice people. Not very spicy though (I like xxxtra spicy so it might be good for most) Would go again as it was clean and staff was friendly.
I asked for Thai chilis and got dried red chilis and sambal. Nothing is like real Thai food in Thailand!
Still a good spot. There was a sign for all you can eat on weekend of April 11th for Thai New Years. Might be worth checking out. I think it was 24-25$. Please confirm the date before going I wasnt sure on the start or finish.
I've been to a few Thai restaurants around the world, and I have to give props to Sabai Thai as one of the best. Personally, I really enjoy the red curry, shoo shee, and som tum (papaya salad). My only complaint is the music, very synth sounding. I would love to hear actual Thai music. Maybe they are too friendly there? This is typical of Thai culture. The lunch special is a really good value too.
Thanks to Sabai Thai, I was a little disapointed in the Thai restaurants in Thailand, and that is saying a lot. I'm just glad to have access to great Thai food in my backyard.
