A co-worker and I went for supper on a Wednesday evening. We arrived around 7:00, and the place was pretty empty.
Lots of booths around the perimeter, with a couple of long tables for bigger crowds. Bollywood and sports on the big screens. The place was tidy and clean, lots of room. Washrooms were very clean.
Service was excellent. Very friendly lady, and very attentive. My friend is a bit timid with heat-levels in food, so we settled for "Canadian medium", not "desi medium". Very little heat at all.... but the food was tasty.
We ordered butter chicken (their newspaper ad said "best butter chicken" - so of course we had to try it), dal tarka, raita, garlic naan and rice pullao. Butter chicken was tender, but the sauce was very, very thick and tomato-y. Dal tarka was excellent.... nice balance of spices. Raita was standard, naan was lovely with a bit of a "chew". The rice in the pullao was perfect, with sweet peppers, peas and onions added.
Dinner for two, with a beer and a glass of wine, no dessert, was just over fifty dollars. Lots of leftovers.
We stayed chatting for quite a while, but the staff did not rush us. The place was very busy when we left just after 9:00 pm.
Nice place, good food, nice people. I would return.
I just found out about this website, so I don't have many reviews, but I have been to many restaurants. Those other restaurants always had some flaws, whether it be poor service, cheap/tacky food, even one with no heating. We have never been to a local restaurant more than once. I love Indian food, but I had trouble finding one to commit to, till I heard about Planet India, an up and coming restaurant.
The food was simply amazing. Saw an ad of Planet India stating they had the "Best Butter Chicken", which i hardly believed until I tried it last night on Christmas Day. I ordered Medium-Hot, as I like things spicy, and boy it hit the spot. Although there were a few tears, I handled and the sauce was perfect. The naan was nice and chewy, the way I like it. And under $30 between me and my wife, we were full to the stomach and we still had some leftover!!! The service was exceptional. My server was very attentive and gave me recommendations on what should i try, and she always had a smile. And it was pretty busy too! The value was what I expected, because this isn't just another cheap indian restaurant, it has quite high class. And overall the joint was clean, washrooms were surprisingly clean, as if no one had even used the toilets. And the lighting was good and it was a fun experience. I will bring my kids with me next time, which might be on New Years.
Overall, if you are a family man, or even a single dude out with his buddies(which I also saw when I left), you will like this place.
So the food is very good (we alternate between Taste of Punjab (ToP) and Planet India) and consistent. They have the best Chana Masala, hands down, and their Naan, Tikka Masala, and Korma is also up there at tops. The only problems I have had is service (inconsistent, but some of their new servers are excellent and make good reccomendations) and the fact that, while new and nice, it is ALWAYS FREEZING in there. So wear a coat.
In terms of spiciness, we have been able to go up to "Medium Hot" because Hot was, well, Insane. We eat Thai food frequently and always order it about a 3-4 out of 5 stars in heat *for perspective*.
Very consistent food wise though, which is important to me. It is quickly becoming one of our favorite spots
P.S. It's better than Mahek too... at least from what we've experienced.
