Vietnamese restaurant specializing in pho. Several locations.
Being a pho fanatic, I was excited to see that a new Vietnamese restaurant opened nearby. The restaurant is new, so it's definitely clean, and the decor is fresh and trendy - a bit like the "one-step up" trendsetters like Pho 888 or Pho Saigon in Toronto.
It was a little disappointing that the food didn't match the decor. The pho ga (chicken pho) we ordered was bland. Spring rolls had a nice crispy wrapper but the filling was tasteless and mushy with unidentifiable ingredients (I was only able to identify the carrot and guess there might be taro?) Most disappointing, the salad rolls and pork rolls were both filled with a type of processed ham instead of real pieces of pork. The 3 bean smoothie was the best part of the meal but still not really up to par compared to most other pho places.
Service was interesting because normally I find that pho joints in general don't tout the best service. However, our server seemed to overcompensate by waiting at our table while we perused the menu (literally waiting for us to order after handing us the menu. We told her to come back in a couple minutes, and I think she literally counted the two minutes and showed up again, though we were very obviously still deciding). After we had our food dropped off, the server disappeared and it was difficult to flag her down.
The price was right with the 20% grand opening discount, but I'm not sure if I'll go back.
I love Pho and it's hard to find good Pho places out of Richmond. This place is not as good as Pho Hoa, but it's right up there. It's clean inside, which is not always the case in Pho establishments. The service every time we've gone has been cheerful and prompt. The Pho itself is always delicious and fresh tasting. We will return time and time again. It has become a favorite Saturday lunch treat for our family.
I have been here 3 times now and all of them good experiences. The restaurant is very clean with nice modern decor and I was very suprised since it doesn't look like much from outside and it's called Pho 99.
Their pho is very good, great broth, nice noodles and the other food items on the menu are very solid. For those in the Clayton Heights area it's a great option.
We will not hesitate to visit this place again and again. The food is solid and the restaurant looks very clean and tidy. The broth is not too greasy and the meat is lean. The noodle is not over-cooked nor under-cooked. We also tried their fresh shrimp rolls and they tasted fresh although their peanut sauce tasted different from others. A good experience overall.
Actually, i didn't try this new location, i went to PHO 99 in richmond for a few times, we love their beef noodle soup and BunBOHUE. We went there last weekend again with a group of co-workers, one of the waitress serving us (i guess she is an owner) with smiles , she told us pho 99 is expanding to Surrey ('cause some of my co-workers) are living in Surrey, i guess they may go and try out at this new location. I hope this new branch keeps the same taste like pho 99 Richmond. The young waitress also told us the new promotion coming at Pho 99 in june at this new location too, something like free parking at the richmond night market , oh well, i guess my friends who live in surrey for sure will take this advantage to try a new place for lunch and get us a free parking coupon.
