Oriental Buffet is an all you can eat Chinese buffet restaurant with lots of variety.
For 11.99 lunch and I think either 14.99 or 15.99 for dinner, i am not going to complain.
i came for the lunch and all these reviews here keep saying how bad this place is. well you're paying 12 bucks. it's either here or mcd and here is 100 times better than mcd.
for 12 bucks, this is what you can expect.
- 50-60 items to choose from, 75% of them were, surprisingly, quite good.
- utensils, plates, tables were all clean.
- pork, chicken, seafood - read again - SEAFOOD. seafood is shrimp, squid and fish. fried squid is awesome.
- not overly greasy, as what many are saying. food is slightly better than food court chinese food.
- the fish and seafood are best tasting. although frozen, they do what they can to make the seafood tasty.
- dessert is not bad - ice cream, cookies and cakes. ice cream is not half melted but at perfect temperature.
- the honey garlic ribs and sweet and sour porks are good tasting.
- great service.
- pork is not the freshest, not as in going bad, but using yesterday's leftovers.
- sushi is not cold enough but fresh ingredients used nonetheless. a maintaining issue.
- pork hock could use a little more flavor and longer cooking time.
- fried chicken drums sticks were dry but good flavors and crunchy.
again, the pros far outweigh the cons and for 12 bucks lunch, it beats out uncle willy's by a long shot despite uncle willing having a far superior location.
one recommendation to the owners is to clean up the outside building walls. a fresh coat of paint would do wonders for this restaurant's external look as, initially if you drive by, you would think this building was getting prepped for demo or razing.
i would return whenever possible if i am in surrey. it's really good value and decent quality.
We were going out with a large group and they wanted buffet, so thought we'd try this place out. The variety of different dishes was plentiful, ranging from meat you cooked yourself (pork & beef) to chinese noodles and sushi. Sushi was very limited and did not look very good, although we did not try it. The noodle dishes were good and the meat dishes were satisfactory. They tried to have some authentic chinese dishes, but fell a little short, being too salty and overcooked or bland and tasteless. The service was good, our water was refilled promptly and our dirty dishes were removed quickly. The desserts were limited and the ice cream was melting in the freezer.
Overall it was a satisfactory buffet, but I will not be returning anytime soon.
Surrey needs a good all you can eat place. Unfortunately, this is not it. While "dining" here we witnessed what I could only describe as atrocious food practices by the staff(more later). The food literally leaving a cesspool of oil on my plate was my first clue. The second was the people eager to BBQ warm, briny pork or chicken with only 1 utensil(mmm ecoli anyone?)The third was visiting the restroom facilities. BUT the WORST was asking for more water and literally watching the guy go to the next empty table, grab their LEFTOVER water, pour it into my jug and bring it back to me!!!! WTF stay away, far away.
This place need more PRIDE-The washroom is a example of PRIDE and it looks like mess I was there 1 day doors were broken and returned later and the same doors were broken .There is very large selection of food. But its not cook well. This restaraunt has the potentail to be something special as I saw it 3.5 years ago I had my wedding reception and I was introduced to this place back then it was great. Now 3.5 years later its very poor.
Initial impressions: Greasy handprints on the glass doors leading inside. Large restaurant only about 20% full on a friday night. 4 rows of buffet food, various Japanese, Chinese, and western dishes.
I went there with some family friends for dinner - after reading the reviews here I tried to steer them clear, however they were determined and so I reluctantly tagged along.
The quality of the food, as others have said, is largely plain, and often overcooked. I'm sure you can get your entire month's worth of oil and grease at one sitting, as pretty much everything is either deep fried or fried in oil. What few veggies and salad items they had didn't look fresh, and what I tried wasn't very good.
There's a small barbecue area where you can stand for 5-10 minutes and cook your own meat. The beef was already gone when we arrived and it was never refilled during the length of our dinner. There was some pork however. It was OK, however since the grill didn't look to have been cleaned in quite some time, it wasn't all that appetizing. They also had the same tongs to handle both raw and cooked meat.
We only only had water with our meal, but other drinks were available for an extra fee. I don't know if pop or soda is free, we didn't have any.
They do have some jello for dessert, as well as some cake and icecream. The icecream buckets say that it was specifically made for their restaurant by some local icecream manufacturer. It didn't appear to be of very high quality.
All in all, it's a place to avoid. There are numerous buffets with better quality at similar prices. Don't waste your time or even worse, subject your digestive system to the grease.
honestly the food is alright, there's a lot of selection. the restaurant does need some improving though. the food is okay, its not the best but its alright. i think the food would taste great if they used less oil. you feel alright when your eating but once you leave, you'll feel all the oil kick in. Everytime I come here, most of the time in groups or parties, i always feel sick afterwards. the food is toooo oily.
I've been to this buffet many times, and as time passed, the quality just declined.
Okay food, neither special nor good deal. Although they have many choices to pick from I usually sick with the same old same old. They have a Dim Sum section, but it was the hardest thing to get the food I wanted. The grill was sometimes closed or at least at lunch the last couple of times I've been there.
No real service, since it's buffet style. The waiter counts the number of heads, seats you and give you your drinks. The next time you will see him/her would be getting your bill.
A rather decent value for the food you're getting. It's in Surrey, so you can't compare it to fancier buffets elsewhere.
Not too special. The Buffet has it's own "room" almost. I would rather prefer to see the Buffet.
I've never tasted such an awful and disgusting buffet in all my life. It made 2 members of my family sick after eating their "food". Not only were the crab meats completely dry and overcooked, the fried rice was also dry and stale. The service was almost non-existent and they dared to charge 10% service charge on your bill. Speaking of bill, the food wasn't even worth half the price of $91 for 5 people. Not very many people showed up on a Saturday indicating the restaurants lack of popularity. WHAT A RIP OFF.
I'm afraid that this restaurant was not quite what I expected, and I wouldn't recommend the Oriental Buffet to friends or family.
The food was poor quality. The spareribs were all bone and no meat. The Singapore noodles were stale and dry, as though they had been there for a while. My son said the tasty taters were stale. The food was cold and unappetizing. I did semi-enjoy the rice though, but overall it was very disappointing.
The service was non-existent. They never came up and offered us drinks, they never asked us how the food was. We needed the vinegar replaced, but it wasn't till near the end of our meal that they actually brought the vinegar. Whenever we tried to find someone to help us, we ended up having to ask the customers because the staff wasn't there to help.
I'm afraid I do have to give a low rating for value as well. The quality of the food was rather low for the price. When I spend 15 dollars for a meal, I do expect to be able to eat the food presented. They did have a variety of choices to choose from though, which would have worked out very well if it was kept fresh.
We have no plans on returning to this restaurant.
Every time i have gone to this place it has been soo gross and cheap! there woton soups gross there foods always dry or old tasting. I dont even go anymore cause ever time i give it a chance its just disapoints me! Im shocked that its still open:O
My water was never filled and my plates were never taking away when dirty! bad serves they dont even try to server you and expect a tip HECK NO!
We tried it. I never taught take food like that would exist in the year's 2000. That says it all.All the vegetable dish were soggy and dried out from sitting in the steamer. I do admit that is was 8:30 p.m. on Saturday night but they were open till 10:00 p.m.. The sweet and sour pork in the red sauce was mainly fat. Bearly any meat. I usually have chicken but i dare not take some from just looking at it. Item like a complete turkey was in the warmer. The carcas only. I ask for more and reply was no more. The Smelts look good bu the head was still on the fish which i can live with but the gust we still inside cooked mind you. Not my taste. The meat on the crag leg was harder than the shell. I'm not joking. It was just terrible. A few store bought desert and dried up strawberries. I travelled a lot and i tell you some buffet were not the best but you always found a few item that you could eat. This place -- forget it. Itried to eat my one plate and had to force myself to eat a bit but would not go down very well.
Sorry but it is a far cry from the bustling Oriental of a few years ago. Food was too salty/greasy. The breaded shrimps seemed to be brined shrimps covered with batter. Frozen dimsum from the grocery is much better than the ones they serve. Though "newly renovated" and looking better, the food is much worse.
I'm glad i tried it out, for curiosity sake I went to another forum and it dint have many bad reviews so i decided to check it out, i was pleasantly surprised. I dint have anything but sea food, and if thats what you are going for you wont be disappointed**
They dint have a big selection on sweets, but the fruits served were very fresh and very tasty.
Moreover I had 2 friends of mine who ate at another buffet in New west and thought oriental was much better for similar type of food served.
Would go there again,
$10 for lunch buffet, food not worth any... bad taste food, you may enjoy microwave food better than here.
+ Good Selection
+ No charge for Soda Drinks
+ Indian, Chinese & English food under one roof.
- Bad food, no taste, soggy, no flavour, bad cooking etc.
- No/little service
- Homeless type food
- Not sure if its worth the money.
I hope someone had left feedback for this restaurant & I wouldn't have wasted money, so please folks, if you like reading feed backs before going to any restaurant, please try to leave feedback so others gets informed. You are reading this feedback cause someone(me) spend time writing this. If I don't take effort to write, you wouldn't be reading all this. We all go to restaurants at least once in a life, so why not post your feedback for this last place you went to.
I have been to many restaurants and buffets in my life, but none was as bad as this one. The food there is tasteless and unfresh to say the least. There might be a good variety of food there but the quality of it is not satisfying at all. I have seen some of the employers there brush the food that was on the counter back into the food containers and it is just plain disgusting. Also, if you are looking for decent service, I am afraid you will find none here. They have like only one or two people helping to take away the dirty dishes or refill your drinks in one of the large rooms. Waiting a long time for your table to be cleared away gets truly annoying. The atmosphere there is okay, although the air in there sometimes gets thick and hard to breathe in. The environment there is very busy and it gets hard for anyone to relax and enjoy the food. At least the lighting is sufficient and the cost is lower than many restaurants. In conclusion, I would honestly not recommend this place to anyone who enjoys quality food and service. I do hope this place improves in the future if they plan to keep many customers.
