Family owned and operated, Ocean Park & Village Pub offers an varied menu of pub favourites and pizza along with extensive wine list and 14 beers on tap.
Went with my wife, seems to be the crowd that knows one another,(clicky)...
Seemed rushed not a very warm feeling at all..We were in the pub side, alot of
locals it seemed, service was just that. Most people there were served with a smile.
In our case was rushed:(..
Food was not homemade,salad sucked...
I left a tip just the way my wife do as a custom ..But if we to be so critical I would not leave a dime..
Better place down the road on 128th to the left.Alot more heart there than here..
Unless you know the crowd stay in or stay out,,,,
Thx Forget it
We visited this pub in South Surrey a little while ago and found it to be very average. It was a Saturday afternoon / early evening, the place was quite busy and it was a bit difficult to find seating, but we managed to grab a little table, (we found the tables to be placed too close together, we felt like we were dining with the patrons next to us) It took the server a long time to notice we'd sat down, when she finally did she was sort of cold, and off putting, was really not very friendly or inviting throughout our whole evening. Food was nothing that exciting. I ordered the Baked Cheese Tortellini with Garlic Cream Sauce, was pretty blah (not that I go to a pub expecting a wonderful pasta dish) my fiances meal was okay. Overall, a fairly forgetable dining experience, there are many far better establishments to visit in the White Rock area.
The Other Half, my sister and I were in the area last week. We were running late and getting mighty peck-ish mid-afternoon, so we stopped here to try it out. Having a choice, we went to the pub side.
Service was outstanding, from the instant greeting to taking drink and food orders, to checking up to make sure we didn't need anything else. Nice smiles, great sense of humour.
Food was pretty good, fresh and hot. Sister had a quesadilla, the OH had a mandarin salad with grilled chicken, I had my usual "lets see how they do it" rare steak sandwich. Everything came quickly, and cooked to specifications, and the steak itself was excellent. Next time, we'll try the pizza or greek items offered.
Having never been in the "old" place, I found the room to be very pleasant and cozy. Lots of smaller areas for more privacy, lots of room between tables. Very nice pub atmosphere, and the bathrooms were very clean.
Most definitely will return.
Went to the O/P pub last night and had just received the worst meal yet.
My wife’s $7.99 Caesar salad must have been to difficult for the cook to make a fresh one, so he just added some more lettuce to the existing bowl of watery dressing and the remaining limp lettuce.
Maybe the dressing was made wrong or not mixed before use?
Wilted romaine and soggy croutons does not make for a good ceaser.
For the price you pay you should receive a comparable quality salad.
If your going to serve it with some garlic toast at least make it worthy instead of the oil soaked sponge you served that evening.
The beef dip for 11.99 had a micro waved doughy baguette with dried out beef that was several days old by the taste and the noticeable rainbow sheen. There comes a time when any meat is past its prime and should be used for stock or thrown out, not served.
The au jus was Bovril flavoured water without a hint of any beef flavour.
The fries were cold and greasy with brown speckled fryer residue attached.
A staple menu item so simple to make yet it was so poorly constructed with inferior ingredients.
My Caesar Cocktail came with an over fermented pickled bean and the lime was brown.
I ordered another and it came with an over ripe olive and another brown lime filled with ice but with over an inch of empty glass showing.
Does the bar keep have no pride in what he serves?
The pub may be busy but it sure is lacking any discipline as far as quality goes.
It takes the same effort to prepare good food as it does mediocre food.
The cooks are just slopping the stuff onto the plate with out any personal gratification.
To say it is busy kitchen doesn’t mean it’s a good kitchen!
The staff have fallen into the and there is no one to expedite or do an ongoing quality checks!
When you say it’s not very good to the waitress, they get all offended and say it looked like it was ok, we serve so many and I have had no had complaints.
When some one says that it doesn’t taste right it should be removed from the table and taken back to the chef. But if the waitress makes a complaint during the evening rush the kitchen has no time or personal to address the situation properly.
I understand that when the place is busy the kitchen gets swamped and behind.
That still does not mean that they should just serve unappetizing menu items without care just to get it out of the kitchen.
When reading other peoples comments I can see that I am not alone in my observations.
Its time for the management to step up the quality and service. They should lead the staff to properly serve the fare they have chosen to offer the paying patrons.
I am tired of spending my dinning out dollars on mediocre food that was once good but now has greatly fallen in both quality and taste.
You are only as good as the last meal you served.
Take some time to polish up the act before your clients find other places to eat and drink!
I go to the pub at least once a week,The servers are very pleasant and helpful.the one food item that is very good is their pizza. The Greek salad is mediocre and has a very salty dressing splashed over everything. The feta is also quite salty.Too many cucumbers and not enough red onion or tasty tomatoes. The dressing should be replaced with a good grade olive oil.The quesadillas are bland and not very exciting with the burgers falling in the same category. For over $7 you get a very small spanikopita..very disappointing. The food is a tad expensive for the quality you receive. They should send the cooks to River's Reach in New West to see how to prepare excellent pub fare. The ambience is excellent and there is a good clientle..a great place for a drink..and a bite to eat is average.they could bump the food up a few notches and this would be a super place to hang out for eats.
I will not comment on the food other than to say AVERAGE.
In a pub that is not bad BUT to have overpriced beer and AVERAGE food is unforgiveable. NORMAL pubs include the HST in the menu price for drinks - NOT HERE!! What they call a pint s/b 20oz is actually a short sleeve less than 16oz. So a $4.99 "pint" becomes a $5.58 (short) pint - the word"rip-off" comes to mind.
Check real pubs like Sawbuck's to see the difference!
I know it's been over 2 years since the old OPP has been gone, but I still miss it. My family had been going there forever, it was a staple of ours growing up since it was Ocean Park's community restaurant.
The new place is more modern and upscale....not too hard since the last place was literally a little cramped space underground....but it feels less ambient and warm. There has been little change to the menu but that's ok with me since I love having this familiar comfort food that I grew up with....it's nice sometimes to have something reliable and solid. The food is always plentiful and good. The pizzas and pastas are delicious and substantial...nothing fancy or innovative, but again, that's not what this place is about. The new format is kind of noisy now that there is a pub/sports bar in one half of the restaurant.... less family oriented and conducive to conversation. Thus we avoid it during hockey nights, leaving the space to the sports lovers.
Service is usually quite good with waiters and the kitchen being able to accomodate special requests usually.
Throughout the years, OPP has been very supportive of the community of Ocean Park and for that reason alone I'm happy to support them.
This is not somewhere I would go to for much other reason than pizza and beer. The interior is unlike anything else within five miles, so that's a plus. The desserts are far from top-flight, but their hummus is very very good. Overall, this is a great asset to the community, but not somewhere where I go too often. Five times a year would be enough.
I live in the neighbourhood, this place is a huge disappointment! I have been here a few times, but plan to never return. The staff seems unhappy and dis-interested. The original girls that worked in the pub were great, but have since been replaced by less skilled workers. This is probably due to the weak ownership of the establishment. The great ones figured out pretty quick the bosses' wife is out for herself and up to no good! I guess this is what happens when your parents give you a business and you let your wife, (who has zero experience) run it? It's a shame, the old place was so good post- Linda.
Food: Made in house? Please. Frozen junk. What is with the dressing on the Greek salad? A MSG attack will follow...
Price: Not fair for the quality of food you get. It is very hard to find something even remotely healthy on this menu....$20 for a pitcher of beer?
Room: Ok, but the tables are really cramped together.
It's sad, but true. The only reason why this place is still afloat is the history. There is nothing special about it! Just a place that is local and purely conveinent.
if you have ever been to the old place, you will be impressed with the new look, it is awesome. not like the old place was bad, it was just time for a reno, and that they did. first off, if you have never eatin at the original op pizza you must try the pizza, it is what made them famous. the chicken souvlaki , steak sandwich and baked spag with meatballs are also outstanding. ribs and chicken are way above average. i must admit i have never actually tried the typical pub food there, nachos, wings, burgers etc.....there is no need to , the only complaint i have is they didn't bring there chicken caccitore from the old menu , and it was the best caccitore ever so (george and linda) hint hint BRING IT BACK PLZ lol , but overall friendly staff , nice setting and great food. if you live in the area you allready know the place i am sure and if your not from the area well worth the drive for the pizza alone, not to mention it is close to the beach and some really nice parks.
My husband and I visited OPP for the fourth time on April 29, 2009. The three previous times (spread over the last year or so) were a mix of pretty good to just okay. Initially, our first visit was sparked by the beautiful building - the food on that visit was just okay - but probably just opening jitters. The second visit and third vists were okay.
This visit we both ordered pizzas and I am here to tell you they were outstanding!!! He ordered a Pepperoni thin crust and I ordered the Chicken Feta and Spinach (yummmm). Our server was welcoming and efficient.
I am looking forward to a return visit because it has become our go to place for delicious pizza for us.
Sincerely,
After a romantic walk on the beach we decided to try out this new pub/steak house. Looking upon the building it is very attractive, cobblestone paths that lead you inside, and a very nice at night time when you are out side.
The hostess was very pleasant and gave us the option of sitting in the pub or restaurant area. We chose the pub as we were looking to see what the rest of the establishment looked like..
It has an old style feel with high ceilings, large raised beams and pillars, perfect lighting that isn't too bright or too dark, comfy tables that actually have foot rests on the high tables which is a nice addition, and the noise level is just right.
The turn off was that the decor cluttered up the ambiance quite a bit, as I said in the heading very confusing, the decor is very a la Boston Pizza with sports memorbilia everywhere, BC Lions, Canucks, and a mish mash of all other things sports related. Perhaps some nice paintings and local art to take away the Uncle Floyd's party basement motife.
On the bright side the service was excellent (ask for Susan) and the food was very nice, we had the appy platter
my wife and I had never been there before. it was very busy and the hostess offered us a couple seats at the bar since there were no more available. The vibrant staff were very pleasent and helpful, especially the bar staff. We ordered a few drinks (martini's) and shared an ocean park pizza! It was outstanding! Definately would suggest visiting this pub.
I live in Ocean Park so the location is good. The food is pretty bad overall. I have had some good (not great) meals there but I have had some horrible ones as well. The burgers taste like frozen Costco patties and the overall quality of the food seems pretty low. The greek food is solid but not great and the pizza is decent. I had the tortellini alfredo and it was awful! It tasted like plastic bag. Portion sizes are decent. I have had some decent waitresses but some awful ones as well. There was one waitress that was awful! Got pissed off at me when I asked for a recommendation, slammed our waters down on the table, and never showed anything close to a smile. I am not a fussy person but I was appalled. I gave her the benefit of the doubt as she may have had a horrible day but I went back about a month later and she still had the same pissed off look on her face when serving customers. It is a good place to catch Canucks games and the restaurant looks quite nice but I would not recommend it. It isn't a horrible restaurant but the food seems low quality and service is mediocre.
I went there a few months back and found it to be excellent. My friend had the lasagna and it was HUGE! She couldnt even eat it all. I had the fish and chips which we also very good. The only thing I didnt like about this place was it seemed to crammed. We seemed to be really close to the table next to us and I was almost hit by this kid swinging around a toy. I will definately go back but hopefully find a corner table away from others. Too bad it wasnt a little bit bigger.
The new Restaurant is great except for a few things. It looks great but is not conducive to a night of chatting. Very uncomfortable Bar Stools - in-fact very uncomfortable bar.
The Bar looks to be one of those that made the Architect feel good but it is not practical for customers.
Tried to telephone a friend of mine at the bar to tell him I could not make it – guess what NO PHONE calls allowed – you cannot call a customer and have them paged.
The Pizza is still great but they should have up-scaled the menu. This still feels like the 1970s. The Lunch Menu is the same as the dinner menu – sooooo obviously we don't go there for lunch.
The Greek Salad comes with a big blob of unidentifiable dressing that has nothing to with Greece or any Greek Dressing that I have ever had (what happened to olive oil).
The staff is great, best-looking gals in town and a nice crew of guys behind the bar. The restaurant is nice addition to an otherwise boring end of White Rock.
My congratulations on a job well done – beautiful restaurant.
This new Restaurant and Pub that replaced the old one in Ocean Park is truly outstanding in design, with great food and top notch customer oriented service. The pizza and Greek Salad continues to be the best on the penisula. The staff are amazingly attentive and friendly, obviously a high priority of the owners. The Pub is what one expects a great pub to be, unique, private and cosy with an ambiance not duplicated anywhere in the area. Fine food has always been and continues to be a hallmark of this landmark Ocean Park Restaurant
The new restaurant is very nice inside. Reserve ahead as it gets very busy on weekends.
The food definitely needs higher standards, it just doesn't cut it.
With a brand new building they should of hired a chef and not a short order cook.
Hopefully the owners will one day realize this.
Ocean Park Pizza and Village Pub is an extroidinary restaurant. They have put an incredible amount of time and effort into creating a master piece. Every little part has been considered carefully. The staff was chosen specifically for their service. The food is the same as what it was before and may be even better. Why change a good thing? Yes it is a busy spot, but that is all the more reason to stop by admire the architecture and delve into some GREAT FOOD!
Recently re- opened in a brand new, nicely-designed building as a neighbourhood pub with a family side and a bar side. While the rooms are quite nice, the menu seems like it 's from the '70s. Our pizza was a 3 out of 10, thick, doughy and a bit on the greasy side. The Greek salad was buried in an unidentifiable dressing (olive oil anyone?). Portions are large, but don't compensate for the mediocre fare. The vegetarian choices are limited. How about an upgraded menu and food to go with the new building?
