Went here with the better half for a nice dinner on the weekday. My better half order a drink and we shared a 2 people platter that had greek salad as the appiy, and the main course was the chicken souvaki, lamb chops, a pastry dish filled with spinach and cheese and a rice and meat wrapped in grape leaves along with tizaki, pita bread, rice and roasted potatoe. Overall the dishes were very good. The plate was hot and the service was great. Very tentative and polite. The only concern that I had was that there was not enough rice or potatoes for that platter for two. If we ordered separately, we would each had a scoop of rice and a potatoe each, yet when you ordered a 2 people platter you get a single serving of the rice and potatoe (cut in two). The ambiance was clean and nice. Nothing outstanding, but it was decent enough. The price is a bit much for what you pay. There are other greek restaurants out there that is more affordable. I will venture here once in awhile to satisfy my greek food craving.
Wow! This has some of the best Greek food I’ve ever had. This place is amazing. We tried it for the 1st time yesterday. My husband is not really a fan of Greek food but he loved his dinner last night. His plate was completely cleaned off and they do have large servings.
I disagree with the comments about the ambiance. I found the ambiance just lovely. The tables are nicely set with fresh linens and the room is softly lit ,there are also lights at each table. The ambiance is way nicer that it is at most Greek restaurants that I’ve gone to.
The service is amazing. The server was so pleasant and chatty but she was not overbearing. She seemed to genuinely enjoy her job and made us feel very welcome. What a treat to have such superlative service.
A delicious pita bread that is nice and hot is served with your meal. The entrees are served with rice, potato and Greek salad. The salad was nice and fresh – very tasty. For entrees I had the roast lamb and my husband had the lamb chops. The portions are very generous. My lamb was so tender and with the taziki sauce it was just perfect. My husband had requested his lamb chops be done medium rare and they were served exactly as he had requested. He received 4 good sized lamb chops perfectly cooked and seasoned for $18.95. If you consider the cost of lamb chops this is very good value. For dessert we shared the eckmeck dessert. It was a large piece, obviously homemade and again just delicious. For $4.00 it was very good value for the money.
Amazing food, wonderful service and good prices. How can you go wrong. We’ll definitely be back.
Went out on a friday night to visit this greek restaurant and seems like your good neighbourhood family run greek restaurant. Most areas need a place like this. Was very busy with locals but made reservations so seated right away. The restaurant is in your typical surrey strip mall, nothing exciting and the decor matches. Doesn't look like they have had any renos in a decade or more, typicaly 90's style. Started off with the calamari and very good. Then had the roasted lamb shoulder. Very good, tender and a bit on the fatty side but expected wtih the shoulder. Came with your normal greek salad, rice and potato. Tried some of their desserts, cheesecake - average and tiramsasu - a a bit bland. Service was excellent with a waitress that really seemed to enjoy her job. Prices were in the low teens for the appyes and high teens for the entrees. Would return.
Came here with a group of 6 early Saturday night before a concert. We were looking forward to some pretty good Greek food, considering many of the reviews here. Boy were we ever let down. None of us came away satisfied with our food.
We has 2 vegetarian (spanakopita) entrees, one lamb L'Astoria (shoulder), one halibut, one moussaka, and the little one had a chicken tenders appy with a Caesar salad. All entrees come with the same standard Greek sides: rice, roast potato, Greek salad, pita, and tzatziki. The food came out amazingly quickly, which probably should have been our first clue: everything was just lying around waiting to be ordered (even the "fresh" halibut). The moussaka and lamb were fine, nothing special but not bad; the halibut was rubbery. The worst thing was the Greek salad...how do you ruin that??? The whole thing was dry and limp, like is had been left out in the open air too long. There was an ample helping of flavourless feta and some herbs on top. Meanwhile, the potato tasted like it had soaked too long in lemon juice, and the rice was dry and was no particular boost to the meal.
Entrees ranged from $15-$22, kind of high for Greek, but not bad for good food. The problem is, this wasn't particularly good food. The only thing that keeps the value score up is the portion sizes, which were pretty huge. None of us finished, so we will get at least another meal out of them. I'm not sure whether that's a good thing or a bad thing...
Service was friendly and effective throughout. Nothing wrong there. Finally, the interior is themed but limited by the strip-mall-like location. They couldn't completely seal that out of the scene (my seat had a perfect view of the 64 ave/152 st. intersection and neighbouring train tracks).
I don't know whether this was an off day for the restaurant, or what, but this was well below average for a Greek place. Considering at the higher-than-average prices, I just don't see any reason at all to go back here.
The best for greek food ever. My fav is their mousaka and my husband always has the kalamari. [he won't order it anywhere else now because theirs is the best and nobody else compares] Of course we always start with the saganaki [?] cheese. To die for. We have been going since they opened and have never ever been dissapointed. Family run it is homey and the service is friendly and warm. We have been going so long that we were greeted with hugs last time. Like coming home. We go often but this year was the first time we went for New Years Eve. The place was packed but the service was fast and effeicient and, of course, the food fantastic. You won't be dissapointed here.
We dine at this restaurant quite often as it is close to our home and my wife simply loves greek food. We always find the staff very attentive to our needs, and the food is always excellent. We have tried some great greek joints on Broadway, (Vancouver's Greek town.) and some well recommended restaurants in other areas of the lower mainland, but have found that the lemon potatoes and the freshness of the greek salad keep bringing us back here no matter where we are. The roast lamb and the greek style ribs are my favorites, and my wife loves the home made ek mek, (Please forgive my spelling.) Not a great location, and no view, but if you love greek food this is the real deal.
A friend and I decided to try New York New York last night. The outside is unpretentious and partially hidden behind the (now closed) Java Hut on the corner of 64th and 152nd, so it has been easy to drive by all these years and assume it was just another one of those Mom & Pop steakhouses. I was surprised when a co-worker informed me that it was actually a Greek restaurant and a place where she and her husband go when they need to tame their cravings for Mediterranean food.
New York New York is a small restaurant with a combination of booths and tables, very clean, very simple, somewhat dated but cozy. Our waitress was top notch and tended our table with finesse and efficiency. I ordered the vegetarian platter with an unusual spanakopita that was rolled into a cigar shape (nice touch) which was delivered hot and delicious and served with the usual side combination of rice, lemon roasted potato and greek salad. The portions were very generous, very tasty and I was completely stuffed by the end of my meal -- my friend had to take half of hers home with her. The meal was one of the best that I've had, but If I had to make one complaint I would say that I wish my Greek salad was chilled versus room temperature -- other than that I have nothing but praise for this place.
By the end of our meal my friend and I concluded that we would definitely recommend this place to others - the $20 price tag on entrees may seem steep to some, but I've paid almost as much for limp, greasy, tired Greek food at other places and this was worth the investment!
Every time we have gone to New York New York the service is great and the food is always good. You get huge portions with Greek Salad, potatoes and rice. The roast lamb, Greek Ribs and Moussaka are the dishes we usually order and are never disappointed.
The staff are always friendly and get to know your names after you have been there a few times.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

We have been several times. My husband not a fan of rice got to get more spuds. I usually end up with some take home. Food is really good but the seating can be crowded on a busy night. The service is fantastic every time we have been there & the value is really good. He has the lamb each time & loves it. Never leave hungry.
We've been here a few times, but lately I find the quality slipping a little bit. We had a party of seven, but felt uncomfortably crowded at the small table reserved for us... barely enough elbow space.
I ordered my favorite roast lamb but found that there was less meat on it and more bone and fat than usual. I was craving and ordered a beer before dinner but the waiter must have forgotten because he didn't bring it until half-way through my meal. The prices also seemed a little higher than normal.
My boyfriend and I love this place! We have even booked our Valentines dinner here! We order takeout as well and they always get our orders right! The portions are large (makes a great lunch the next day) and the cheesecake is to die for! I recommend this place for family dinners and also for a great date night.
I have been to this place a few times already and the food has been very good. However, the night I went, I thought the grub was a major disappointment. Was in the mood for pasta and since there is very little to choose in South Surrey, we thought we go to New York New York as they usually have four or five pasta dishes.
Got in and looked at the menu and I saw veal schnitzel and thought, "Hey, that sounds good!". The entree came with Greek style rice, Greek salad, lemon potato ... basically the usual Greek sides. I asked if I can substitue this with part of a pesto sauce pasta. Its a dish they serve. The Server said No, saying that the menus are set. Go figure. Being drawn to the schnitzel, I said, alright just give me the entree.
The result, the veal schnitzel was covered with feta, which made it really salty. The rice, which I figured was hard to screw up, was hard and part crunchy. Everything else was your average Greek fare. The server came by and ask how are meals were, and I said "Alright". Being chicken to say that it was weak, I was hoping that the server would catch on and ask further why it wasn`t good...but nope!
Like I said earlier, I have been here before and the meals have been fairly good, solid three stars, but today, I think it was a disappointment.
BTW: I orded a sleeve of Wersteiner (spelling), and it cost me $4.35, and the volume of the glass was smaller than your average size sleeve. Get the pint if you order a beer.
My partner and I tried this restaurant based on the good reviews we read here. We were extremely pleased. The food was awesome. Prices are very reasonable. The Bougatsa for dessert was to die for. Overall, a very enjoyable experience. We'll be back!
Me and my husband often get take out from this place and have tried the steak dinner and lamb and chicken souvlaki. I have to say, the steak was not cooked properly at all, we asked for it to be well done, and rather it was burnt on the outside and pink on the inside. However, we both LOVE the lamb and chicken souvlakis. I'm a huge fan of lamb and have tried many other greek restaurants but their lamb was always mediocre. But when I first saw the lamb at NYNY, I could tell it would be delicious as it looked juicy and well cooked. It's the best. I'm not a huge fan of the rice, as sometimes it's too watery or not cooked well, but the pita and humous as starters is really good.
I would recommend this place for the best lamb.
This restaurant has the best roast lamb we have ever tasted! The flavor is excellent and it is fork tender. This place is so busy you always need a reservation. Everyone I talk to absolutely loves New York New York. We are going again this weekend with new friends who have also experienced great dining here.
