Nahm Thai Bistro serves a menu of authentic Thai cuisine in a modern, chic environment.
My bf and I have been driving by this place awaiting its opening, as we felt Surrey is due for a modern restaurant boasting ethnic cuisine. We finally tried this place a few weeks after opening...
The branding is prevalent throughout the restaurant - from the signage to menus and business cards to beautiful white (faux) leather booths and dangling modern chandeliers and white square dishes.
The food was in general, good. We had the house curry with jasmine rice, and beef and basil fried rice. Both dishes had a lot of flavour and a good balance of spiciness.
My only complaint is in the value catagory. The prices on the menu are on par with most thai restaurants, but portions here are on the small side, and Curries do not come with rice, so you must order this on the side at $2 / bowl (or more $ for brown rice). The menu also lists different meat choices for many dishes, at different prices (ie. if you want chicken in your dish, it's X-amount, beef is another dollar more, shrimp is 2 dollars more, etc). It would make more sense if they just charged the same amount for chicken and beef (difference is only 1 dollar) and maybe additional for more costly ingredients like shrimp. Having a long listing like this on their menu just makes me (as a customer) feel like the restauranteurs are counting pennies rather than perfecting the customer experience. Cocktails are a good price ($5 - 6) but I found their non-alcoholic drinks a bit unjustified.
This would be a good place to have a girls' night or social dinner, but I'm unsure if I'll come back for a casual lunch / dinner due to the value factor.
came to this new thai restaurant on the recommendation of my client, who actually works at another thai restaurant.. we won't name names haha! what he told me was, "the food is pretty good but the prices are high for the portion size and location (whalley)".
the food. we enjoyed all but one dish that was served to us, which is usually my favorite, pad thai. it was sweet, bland and too dry, in my opinion... which was a shame because that's what i came for. satays were delicious, tender, and well seasoned. veggie spring rolls were tasty as well but just like any other spring roll you could find anywhere else. we had fried rice which was very good!! have to compliment the chef with that one... btw, like the other reviewer said, rice is not included which is too bad but give the fried rice a try... a nice blend of seasoning and not at all oily. also had another dish that i can't recall the name of that had sauteed veggies, choice of meat, and cashews... sooo good!!! plus a curry that was really good too but the size of a large cup of soup (yes large cup not bowl!) overall, taste of the food was great but portions small. you will NOT get full from ordering just one entree.
the drinks... cocktails were strong and reasonably priced. also recommended.
the service... the servers are almost always visible and ready to help you but what happened to service with a smile? service is polite but most definitely not friendly. also noticed that our server really didn't know much about the menu and had to refer back to the menu whenever we asked something.
ambience... is very modern & cool... refreshing yet sterile... but i still liked it. did not appreciate the state the of the single unisex bathroom tho. wouldn't have cared if it was just the unfinished floor but on top of the unfinished section of the floor, there was 2 pieces of random hardware lying on it.
friendlier service and adjusting the entree sizes would keep me coming back. but yes, i will give it another try in the next couple months.
This restaurant looks soo good! Definitley not what you would expect for the area, this restaurant looks like it could be downtown Vancouver. Food is good and prices are great considering what a nice experience the restaurant is. The food came out quickly and was what you expect for Thai food. Also had nice presentation. Definitely eat here!
We're trying all the Thai food restaurants in the Guildford area of Surrey, and this one is our new favourite.
Boutique style decor, modern, stylish, clean, new, shiny, lends itself to the beautifully prepared and presented food and most of all, very tasty. The flavours are at the forefront, leaving you craving for more! Basil, lime, coconut, spice, it's Thai.
The lunch special at $9 is a good price and sized portion - not too small, not too big, just perfect and includes a beverage (soda) of your choice.
We've also used Nahm for catering one of our luncheons at work. Unfortunately, we didn't order enough and the take out sizes might have seemed slight smaller than the lunch specials or our colleagues ate too much.
All the dishes were nicely flavoured and the option for having it as spicy as you like is perfect.
The owner too was very accommodating for our luncheon.
An unexpected gem in the heart of Surrey. We've been going back and the service and food is consitent and high quality.
I like the Pad Thai and the Chicken Basil. It keeps me coming back for more :)
Love the Mother and Daughter team, Song and Apple. Always cheerful and friendly.
The ambience is nice with its new age style chic look.
Clean establishment, classy and open concept. Hope you enjoy it as I do.
Decided to get take out for my cousin's bday. Low on cash, so decided to opt out of tipping and get a 10% discount by simply getting take out...in spite of it's classy and realy chic ambiance. Food was amazing, I strongly suggest any of their curries, yellow or red are absolutely fantastic to the point where we keep leftover sauce for other meals.
