We were in the mood for Indian food and as my wife is vegan, there really weren't a lot of opportunites for us in Surrey.
What a complete treat to find Mahek Chaat House!!!
Portions are huge and very reasonably priced, service was outstanding. As posted in the previous review, the owner is your waiter and host. He made some outstanding recommendations for us both.
The place is a little difficult to find and the atmosphere (tables, chairs, walls) were a little on the basic side. And they are closed on Tuesdays, we found out the hard way. ; )
We have been back twice since our original visit and will certainly continue going back.
Located within one of the ugliest strip-malls along Scott Rd (albeit with ample parking), a few doors down from what was Pico, this chaat house, with its sparse decor and flimsy tables, is an undiscovered gem for anyone not from the area. The food is delicious, cheap and filling, with only a handful of dishes above 6 dollars and a great selection from northern and southern India, including dosa and uttapam. I reccommend the chole bhatura (chickpea stew with bread and vegetables) or papri chaat (yogurt, crisp dough pieces, chickpeas, etc) - delicious, not too heavy and very filling for the price. This stuff is ideal summer food as well. Service is quite good: attentive, genuinely pleasant, not especially indifferent.
My girlfriend and I have been to this place regularily for the last couple of years. This restaurant is a an awesome place to go if you feel like indian food, but don't want to get a whole meal. They only serve vegetarian food, but their paneer pakoras and chaat papri are awesome. This is also one of the only places that serves good salted lassi! The owner is a great guy and he always remembers us when we come in. A great place to check out if you are in the scott road area and are feeling a bit peckish!
