Food is tasty and it comes out quick like the other person said. Price point and quantity of food is fair. But the only thing that this place lacks are hosts and servers that enjoy what they do. .I actually stop going to this restaurant for 4 months because of the poor way non Asian costumer are treated. Startin with the man with hair at the front door. I work in the restaurant business and of course I know that with out guests coming to the restaurant I would not have a job. I do understand that we sometimes get the rude costumer here and there but other guests should not get attitude with out cause. Anyways I think they do have the best Chinese food around in the surrey area, just hope they can Change their ways and appreciate Having a job or a business that still is making profit. One last thing the old lady, I honk she is he owner is the only one that truly seem please to have you in her restaurant.
this place is old as hell...but by far they have the best chinese food my husband and i have ever had......the price is right the food is incredible. it defiantly a diamond in the rough....i have recommended this place to family and friends and there feedback has bee just as positive as ours...give this place a try...guaranteed you will love it!!
before the economy went downwards, this place was packed with a lineup every night even though the outside of the restaurant (and possibly the indoors as well??) is something like you'd find on east hastings lol ... old and run down or not, it is still clean and it is one of the very few places in surrey that you can get pretty decent chinese food-depending on what you order. if you choose dishes like the standard sweet and sour pork, chicken chow mein, deep fried wontons etc, you are sure to be dissapointed! i would suggest dishes like their house special live crab, beef lettuce wrap, or seafood basket-all are awesome. but the portions for those dishes are so large, that going with a fair number of people would also be suggested (4 in the least!). Service isn't the greatest, as with most chinese restaurants, but the tables are tidy when you get there and they bring tea, new plates, napkins whenever requested. i'm sure this place would have a higher rating if it wasn't for their ambience so give it a try =)
My family has been going to this restaurant for the past 10 year and the food is authentic and quality is very good and I would recommend it to ant any one that wants real Chinese restaurant. We enjoy the food and we always use this restaurant as good place to have whole family dinner outing with out going broke.
I have been going to this resturant for about 25 years nothing has changed in the decor or premises, however I never go to a resturant to eat the scenery or decor I go for the quality and value of the meal. When it comes to chinese food they are second to none I have eaten at over 30 or more other chienese resturants in this province and no one come close to thier food. I have brought many differnt people there and the views have always been the same great food. I dont really like the decor but like i said who cares about that, I have always been treated well and the prices are reasonible. I highly reccommend.
I agree that the service is not that good and the ambiance is poor, but the people saying the food is bad obviously don't know what good food is, especially the one who said you would be better off at a food court. That's most peoples problem, they eat too much garbage, ruin their pallate, then complain about good food. I can't stand overly greasy chinese food, and have never felt that way about this resturant, having been there about ten times, and tried 15 or more items on the menu. The peking duck is great and the crab and corn soup is one of my favorite things to eat. For the price this place is definately a gem. I've eaten at many chinese resturants in the greater Vancouver area, and this place is on the top of the list for me, unless you're talking more expensive, fine dining style chinese food. The only knock I have aside from the poor ambience and service would be, one of the fish dishes my girlfriend ordered, which tasted great, was sort of ruined by the fact that I had to watch for bones. If it were some kind of whole fish dish I wouldnt have cared so much, but the fish had been processed into cube shapes. I took culinary training and believe that the bones should always be taken out. Nonetheless I can get by a little bad service and ambience, for a reasonable price on some good food, especially in a city where you usually over-pay for poor quality.
This place has been here ever since I could remember. Being that it is a Chinese restaurant located in Surrey, I hesitated about going at first but to my surprise, the food is quite descent. Depending on the food you order, it may at times be a bit oily for certain people's taste. I wouldn't recommend going on a daily basis but once in a while would be a treat.
The service is quite quick. I never have to wait more than 5-6 minutes max for a table (during peak dinner hours). They don't open for lunch. Speed of food is normal. The value of the food ties in with the portion of the food and it does serve large portion. Average per dinner item runs 9-13 dollars depending on what you order. Two dish would typically three people and so on. That's why I ranked it the highest.
The surroundings looks a bit dim and old school. I believe they have not renovated the interior ever since they opened.
Given the somewhat dark interior and older looking decor, the food is actually quite good compared to what you might expect.
The seafood is VERY good and they carry most of the live seafood essentials: dungeness, king crab, shrimp, rock cod and ling cod.
The Peking duck is worth trying as well. The duck skin doesn't have as much fat as other restaurants and is quite meaty. The lettuce wrap portion is standard.
The crowd really picks up at dinner time and the line ups seem to last for a few hours on weekends. Definitely call ahead and make reservations.
Our family has eaten here several times and definitely consider it worth the drive to Surrey.
Special Fried Rice - not bad but not great either. It comes with shrimp, chicken (i think..to bland to tell) and unrecognizable fish pieces.
Deep Fried Spicy Squid- in a very thick batter, rubbery in texture, and extremely dry.
Roasted Crispy Chicken - Rubbery uncrispy skin, dry and oversalted dish.
SERVICE: Arrived on a Sunday 6ish pm on a half empty room. Came here with my partner, we were not seated until 10 mins later because the host/owner thought we were there for takeout.
Didn't get served with tea by our server. When asked, she said because they we're not Chinese! I guess they only serve tea if you're Chinese, and being a paying costumer is not good enough. I said I've been to other Chinese restaurants and they always serve us complimentary tea, doesnt matter if Im Chinese or not. She decided to give us the tea anyways but then she gave us attitude the whole time we were there.
VALUE: I know this is a seafood restaurant, but I dont see the reason to inflate the prices so much. For three mediocre dishes, it cost us almost $35. And for the service you get, you're better off eating at a chinese fastfood on a mall foodcourt.
AMBIENCE: Picture this!. Dark and dingy room sorrounded by cheesy oriental decor, wood panelling walls, rude servers, and a clueless owner.
Would I recommend this place? Obviously Not!
