A quiet family atmosphere, decent selection for dine in, take out and delivery. Adequate parking and wheelchair access.
I've been coming to this place for 5 years now. But lately after the renovation they had last year, things just went down hill. And that's really sad since their food was actually quite good, especially the chicken karagge. And needless to say, that is my favorite dish to order. I've been to other places where their food was really bland when compare to here. When i came here the first few times with my girlfriend, the food and service was really good. But after they got the new servers, the service just went down the shitter. The last time we actually ate there, we waited about 15 min after we sat down before anybody came to take our order. The dishes came out at a reasonable time. But when we were done and wanted to order dessert, no one was around. I saw the waitress going back and forth serving other customers but did not once look in our direction. We were so piss and left. After a couple of months i decided to order out instead. I place my order and they told me it would be 15 min. So about 25 min later i stopped by and my order still wasn't ready yet. At this point i was already piss off. I kept my composure, took my money out and said i wanted to pay for the bill. The older waitress gave me the bill and when i wanted to hand her the money she just turn around and ignore me. WTF!!! With crappy service like this, it doesn't matter how good the food is. It's really sad since the owner use to come out and talk to us when we started going there. But the new waitress (the one with the red dye hair)is the main reason i stop going there. But i might stop by one of these days to see if anythings change.
Ive seen some negative reviews, and dont understand why.
I have had some mixed feeling about this place, but the food is always good, and usually its fantastic. I have had to wait along time to get food on occasion, but its not advertised as fast food, so i dont mind. They have this thing called katsu don, and its very good. For an appetizer ive tried their seafood motoyaki, and its probably the best in vancouver, for fake crab meat.... they dont sauce it to much....... there shushi slices are large, and always good quality... very tender and fresh tasting.
Actually the only thing that i think is pretty hit and miss is there tempura, its great if you eat in, but if you eat out, it loses something.....
We had a coupon from our entertainment book so we decided to go check this place out.
Food: Sushi rolls were rolled very poorly. They were falling apart and the contents didn't seem fresh. Miso soup was way too salty.
Value: Overpriced for the quality of food that you get.
Service: When we were first seated at our table, there were only 2 place settings and there were 4 of us. We actually had to ask for 2 more settings!! We went in thinking that we could use our coupon and when we went to present them the coupon after we got our bill, the waitress said, "No, you have to present before you order." First of all, I think that is the lamest reason because honestly, what is the difference? Are we supposed to get grade B food if we presented the coupon before ordering vs. after? She said to use it for next time...you think we'd go back there!?!? We made a point of just leaving the unused coupon on the table when we left.
Save your money...you're better off getting a bento from a mall food court!
We are absolute sushi monsters and eat sushi every week. Safe to say we know sushi inside out and have developed a keen sense for sushi. This place has the best sushi possible. For example, the salmon is so fresh you can taste the sea almost immediately. I have to say that when you reach the top of the sushi level possible you are perfect and there are no more than 10 sushi restaurants at that level in Surrey. Kyoto (a name of a city where staff come from probably) is one of them. Ask for the sushi tray and you will receive free soup, salad and orange. Service is so so but they know us so we receive special service.
Can't believe the number of bad reviews...we've eaten here often over the past few years, and have always been impressed with the staff and the food. My teenage daughter and her friends go there for lunch often and are always treated well (rare as most restaurants get annoyed with teenagers) and are welcomed like adults.
THeir alaska roll is delish and tempura is hot and fresh.
Love the delivery service, and look forward to the "mystery surprise" as they always throw in something extra with delivery (chicken karaage or edamame)
I have checked out almost every sushi restaurant in Surrey and have to say that Kyoto Sushi Is by far the best! The food is excellent, value is reasonable and the setting is relaxing and comfortable. The servers go out of their way to make you feel welcome and remember their returning customers...I have dined at Kyoto several times with my family and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great Japanese restaraunt...It is my birthday tomorrow, and guess where I want to go???? KYOTO!!!!
Not the best sushi meal I've ever had, but it was good - especially for the price. I found the spicy maki rolls TOO spicy, which seems obvious but my friend had the same ones there before and they weren't that hot. So I couldn't finish my spicy tuna rolls even though they were good, just because I couldn't take the heat. The other rolls were also good - kappa maki, chicken teriyaki , spicy beef (which would have been amazing if not dripping with hot sauce), and my favourite - the yam tempura rolls.
The service was polite, and a little slow but they were very busy so it's understandable. We ate a LOT and for the two of us dinner was $20 all in, including free tea and fruit.
I am very surprised at the horrible reviews for this place. I have been to Kyoto sushi at least 20 times and will continue to come back. I love Japanese food and have been to the few other restaurants in Surrey and restaurants in Vancouver, i have not found a place with as good as value and the quality of the food. I do not know what people are expecting for $10 this is not a fancy uptight restaurant this is a family owned restaurant and the owner is in everyday and she trys to make her customers happy. She now knows my boyfriend and i and almost evertime we go in she stops and talks to us. She also is always giving us something for free. We have gotten free beer, sake, tempura and desserts. No where else is a place going to care for their customers as she does. This is one of the few sushi restaurant were you get free miso soup, free tee and also always fresh fruit at the end of the meal. As for the food being reheated that is false!!! when the teriyaki chicken is done there is steam coming off of it and i love the tempura it is the best i have had by far. The bento boxes are very resonable and very tasty. Sometimes the service is a bit slow and that is because it is also packed and a lot of take out deliveries. As for the whole coupon situation the best thing to do is to give it to the waitress as soon as you order, many other restaurants not only this one will not take the coupon after they have already printed out the bill. A lot of the times when i go here i recononize a few of the same customers who seem to always be there.Like i said before i have been to many sushi restaurant and this is by far the best value and best tasting food, they won number one restaurant in surrey for a reason and yes there are other sushi restaurants in surrey to! I have been here many times and i will keep coming back.
I was surprised at what other reviewers have said about this restaurant, because that was not the case for me. I went their with my mother on Thursday for dinner, and the place was extremely busy. The waiter found us a table quickly and got our orders quickly. At the same time, I mentioned that I had a 9$ off coupon, and the waiter accepted without any arguing whatsoever. The food came quickly too (about 15 minutes), it was decent, I've tasted worse before. The place was comfortable; tables were well separated to give privacy and chairs/sofas were comfortable. The bill came out to be under 15 dollars.
- Quick service, food comes quickly too.
- The sushi rolls were good.
- the restaurant was comfortable
- They gave us free fruit(oranges and strawberries) for desert
-Some of the hot food (teriyaki) needs improvement.. They weren't good.
-The place was little dim for my mother, for she could not see the menu.
-Need to mention about the coupon before you order, or you're gonna get burned like the other reviewers.
I was very surprised to find this little restaurant tucked away in Surrey to say the least. Greeted at the door with smiles and had a hot green tea in hand almost before I sat down. The ladies there offer a very friendly atmosphere and good service. The sashimi was wonderful it melted like butter in my mouth, the miso soup was hot and perfectly made. If your ever in the area be sure to find this little gem!
