If you want better sushi you'll have to go to the Richmond/Burnaby/Vancouver area. And even then I'm just assuming. The food is does not exactly send me looking for a better alternative. The menu is expansive, there are a lot of special, expensive rolls for when you get tired of the same old routine, staff are unproblematic, the chefs are young and friendly, and the place has an airy feel thanks to a double-height dining area, complete with fireplace in the middle. A little strange for sushi, yes, but it took over the space from a failed Bread Garden. After having been pesco-vegetarian for the past five years, I am eager to try all their meatier dishes. So far so good, the tonkatsu was very good, and very good value. A huge pork cutlet for $9, plus salad, miso soup, and steamed rice. A definite favorite. However, if I lived in Vancouver I wouldn't make the trip all the way out just to eat there. It's very good, but not out-of-this world.
We have eaten in and taken out food many, many times and we are never disappointed! It's not the best sushi out there but for it's definitely good! Like the previous reviewer said, if you want better - then you'll have to go into Richmond or Vancouver. The price is comparable to other Japanese places but the sushi portions are large. I love their Udon soup! The only tiny complaint I have is that there have been 1 or 2 times where we've ordered take out and asked for 4 more packs of soy sauce since they've only given us 2 packets and they wanted to charge us for them individually. But aside from those 2 incidents - it's been our favorite sushi place! We go there once a month! :)
I think Kuroishi is the best jap restaurant in the White Rock area.
Both the interior and exterior are beautiful and the staff give a warm welcome.
I ordered Red Dragon Roll, Chicken Karaage.
The Red Dragon Roll was pretty good. Not too spicy, and very nice presentation.
Karaage was great. It was actually juicy and had wonderful flavor.
I'd come back anytime.
Kuroishi opened a couple of years ago in the old location of Bread Garden, so I decided to go try it and found the food to be very good and served attractively.
However portions were a little too small for the value and for my liking.
Great service, the waitresses are all very attentive and polite.
Nice location, high ceiling, not too noisy.
Tooo expensive compared to other local Japanese.
