Knight & Day is a family restaurant that offers a huge menu of home cooked dishes that satisfy big appetites at any time of night or day.
Came here with one of my friends yesterday evening for dinner after going bowling at The Dell Lanes.
I've gone to the Knight and Day in Vancouver several times, but it was my second time at this location. Upon arriving the restaurant was kind of empty, so we were seated immediately. My friend and I were trying to decide what to get. The waitress asked us if we wanted anything to drink (we both stuck with water)
After a few moments, we finally decided what we wanted. I ordered a double cheeseburger with fries (surprise surprise) and my friend ordered a Fettucini Alfredo. I had asked how much an extra patty would cost (It was $4....a little expensive, but got the double anyways) on the menu it said the patties were 7 oz. when our food came, it didn't look like it was that big. I had gotten a burger at Milestones before that they say was 7 oz and it seemed bigger (but then again i'm no mathemagician) but anyhow it was ok. the fries were steak cut fries (which were good) the burger was average.
My friend who is not a big eater actually gave me half their pasta. It wasn't really that great. I remember the fettucini alfredo at the Vancouver location being much better. I would have to say, that it was below par.
Anyhow, our bill came to $29. I have to say that I was pleased with that (2 meals for $29 at a restaurant these days isn't bad at all) we did after all enjoy our food, and we really like the ambiance.
All in all it was good and we enjoyed our visit. We will be back
As it is only one of a handful of places to eat late at night (after 1 am), the bf and I stopped in for a quick bite before heading home at around 2 am. The food was pretty good for what you get late night but the calamari is just complete garbage. It was soggy and all of the batter was falling off even before we touched it. It looked as though it were undercooked. Chicken strips were good, burger was alright.
Servers were doing their best to accomodate the swarms of people coming in after a night of clubbing, etc. You could tell they were very stressed, esp. with the people being really rowdy and they were just too tired to serve properly. I actually felt kind of bad for them.
Overall, I would probably come back if I ever needed to eat something late night and didn't want fast food, esp. when Denny's on Scott Rd serves raw chicken and hair in their food.
The place is dated but emits a kind of grandeur inside albeit somewhat dark and musty. The food selection was limited although the quality is ok, nothing really to write home about. The waitress was friendly and attentive enough. Price is somewhat high for what you get.
I remember going to the Surrey Knight & Day years ago on a Friday night and having great food and the place would be buzzing with the weekend late night crowd. Those days seem to be gone as witnessed by our visit last Friday night. No apparent renovations that I could tell and some were obviously needed. The brown paint on the door of the entrance is quite worn away to reveal the previous white coat. Not a good sign. The place at 2 AM was quite empty so getting a table and service was not a problem. The menu is what you'd expect and the three of us ordered 2 breakfasts and Chicken Quesadillas. Our friend who ordered the chicken said it was okay, but noted that the Coke he ordered was Pepsi. My date who ordered an omelet didn't care for it at all, to me it looked kind of greasy and the large portion of stringy hash browns were moist and under cooked. She said the best part of her meal was the toast and peanut butter. My eggs benedict was probably the worst. After being asked how I liked my eggs and ordering medium these eggs were definately very soft and runny. The muffin was okay but the ham was terrible. It had a strong flavour and was paper thin and reminded me of the cheap sandwich meat you buy in a pouch from a rack for $1.50. This mess was all topped off with a Hollandaise sauce that also tasted pre-fab. Instead of a fresh sauce that was creamy, yellow and tangy this mix was starchy, orange and flat tasting. My order also included the large portion of undercooked soggy pre-fab hashbrowns. Our breakfasts were only half eaten and after complaining we got a 10% discount. Not really a fair exchange. It should be noted that the three men sitting in the booth next to us were also complaining about their food for some reason we did not catch. If I had a choice of another open restaurant in the area I would probably not return.
The food is average and the prices are what one would expect. My only gripe is that it lacks the more cozy feel that the Swiss Chalet across the street has. Part of the problem is that it's generally a little dark inside. I prefer the Knight and Day in Burnaby. It provides a more friendly atmosphere to say read a book/magazine while getting a late night meal.
It was mostly empty on a Friday night at 8pm got there early before my date. 2 servers/hostess came to see if I wanted to be seated, within minutes.
Once we were seated service came fast, took our drink and food order. And all came just as fast.
Ordered a natcho platter it was ok for the price I have had better.
But we were staying for a while to chat and the server refilled my dates coffee serveral times but completely ignored me. Kind of stupid when I would have had to pay for refills on my drink. We had to ask for our bill and in the end no one came to take out money. In the end I left nearly exact change for the bill and walked out.
But it was nice to be left alone while I chatted with my date.
If you are looking for a great Kalamari Dinner with a wonderful Greek Salad you can't beat Knight and Day in Surrey. We tend to go there late at night and the service is always great. The late night wait staff are friendly and always attentive. The place could use a little updating and LIGHT BULBs in their chandeliers, but hey...you're going there to eat after all. The Friday night Prime Rib Buffet is an excellent value as well. A SOLID restraunt with great people that treat you like family. Check it out, you'll be surprised I am sure.
