Since this restaurant is so close to my house, I've seen it go through many stages in the past 8 years -- changing owners, changing chefs, adding more meat / taking away meat in the pho. They are a bit inconsistent as their ownership / mangerial decisions change to give more or less food but it's okay for a quick pho fix, and clean enough.
My only complaint is that compared to other pho places in Surrey (and especially Vancouver) the portions are fairly small making me feel like the value isn't there.
I've only had the bun bo hue here once. Unlike other restaurants where it cost the same as the other pho bowls, the bun here is $6.75 and only comes in the one size.
The large bowl was fairly big, not the biggest that I have had. Noodles were good, but also not the biggest amount either. Meat was above average, seemed to be enough beef brisket and vietnamese ham, etc. It even came with a small pork knuckle, that actually had some meat on it and not just fat and skin...so i eat that...yummy. The broth was quite tasty too and had the right amount of spice. Overall, a very good bowl of bun, but not the best that one can have in Surrey though...7.5/10.
I don't understand why people in the service industry can't understand that it's all about service. If the service is great and the food is OK and can be had for a good value, you're going to have great success. The owner seems to be a good person and of course cares about his business. It's the staff there that are so tactless and apathetic, so much so that it can ruin appetites. The food is OK but definitely not a good value and the service is non-existent. I continue to go here once in a blue moon, but only because it's conveniently located compared to Pho Tau Bay.
Ive been a regular there for about 5yrs now and eat at least once a week a bowl of pho and a spring roll.
They have a great seafood bowl with broth as well. There are to of them one says with broth and the other does not say it. Make sure you get the one that says with broth.
