Great steaks, a casual ambiance and friendly, very knowledgeable staff are the proud and reliable trademarks of The Keg Steakhouse & Bar.
G'friend took me there for my 42nd. Will make it brief in point form:
- Bar: 5/10. Bartender needs to go back to school. Whiskey sour consisted of him pouring a shot of bourbon into a glass with some ice and lemon mix.
- Wait Staff: 8/10. Friendly and attentive.
- Steak: 6/10. Gristly and too damn salty (Sirloin with Peppercorn). However was cooked right.
- Bread: 2/10. Lame
- Baked Potato: 7/10. Chincy on the Sour Cream
- Asparagus: 4/10. Flavourless
Over the past 3-4 years they have batted a 1/4 in my experience. Last one at the Keg in Yaletown was better. Previous one at the Keg at Granville Island was like this one; underwhemling as was the previous one in Whister about 2 years ago.
Bill was in excess of $100. I think you can get better for that price.
Will not be doing Keg again on my dime. Too bad; they used to be good value for money.
With the Olympics quashing all my choices for Valentine's Day, I went against the grain and left Vancouver and walked into this Keg with my gf and friend in tow.
It was busy as expected and were given a wait time of 30-40 minutes, which ended up being no more than 10 minutes for a prime booth. We even received sampler finger foods for those waiting, a nice touch and a good start.
Red meat was the name of the game, so it was filet mignon and prime rib on our plates. We started off with a few appetizers which were average at best, especially the bland caesar salad. The escargot appie was not a typical find at a chain restaurant, actually it was quite good but overdone with the excess butter. The filet mignon was an average cut at best, but was cooked perfectly and it made the best of a less than ideal piece of meat. The slow roast prime rib was actually a lacking in flavour and required heavy dunks into the au jus and was only average in tenderness. Our brownie sundae really left us feeling full, it's quite a portion probably best shared between 4 people.
Service was a little less typical from a Keg. While our server was very friendly and kept on top of things, it nearly felt like he never visited us at all, though I suspect he must've been working at another section around the corner as well since we never saw him walking past us compared to the throngs of waitresses passing by our table.
I suppose with the sync of the evening, it wasn't quite as lively as Keg's tend to be, but it is everything else a Keg is.
Nothing over the top, but a good experience overall.
A birthday celebration at the Keg is always reliably good but the price of prime rib keeps going up...$21.95 for a regular cut with baked potato or fries or salad is getting up there, not quite Mortons or Gothams but quite expensive. The prime rib was perfectly cooked but the onion ring garnish should have stayed in the kitchen...very oily and tasteless. We tried two appetizers (mushroom caps and calamari) and both were tasty and well presented. The chocolate dessert platter to share at $10.95 was the highlight of the meal! The restaurant has been beautifully designed as it was a pleasure dining without the distraction of countless televisions. Certainly a notch above Earls and Milestones. Our server was attentive and my only complaint was his over-eagerness to take away plates from our party once someone had finished their main course rather than wait until everyone had finished eating. First thing you learn at server school!
Would highy recommend this Keg! We met some friends here the other night and truly enjoyed a great dining experience! Our server was excellent, (food was a little slow, as it was super busy) was always checking up with us to make sure drinks were topped up, etc. Baked Brie and Pesto appy was amazing! All our parties steaks were cooked perfectly medium rare, as a vegetarian I really enjoyed the grilled tomato and bocconcini flatbread, and the house salad.....overall a really nice evening, would for sure recommend this location!
This is yet another excellent Keg restaurant with outstanding food, service and excellent value and ambiance. The prawn cocktail is of a very high quality as are the house green salad, French onion soup and the prime rib.
Service is attentive without being overly solicitous.
The prime rib is cooked to order and very tasty.
Access is easy and parking is plentiful.
No complaints here.
I had eaten here before and had a normal experience, but recently went in for my parent’s 50th anniversary and had an amazing time!
The ambiance is a given since the store is brand new and gorgeous inside.
The server was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Very good service. Everything came out in good time and the steaks were cooked up perfectly!
There was a bit of a wait to get in and the bar area did get quite busy, but the service at the bar was so friendly that my mother (who is 71) didn't even seem to notice.
As well, the manager went above and beyond by buying our appetizer because we had to wait 10 minutes more than we were told.
Great place! Will definitely go back!
