Me and my wife visited this small ancient looked restaurant named John's Greek Taverna last week.As we were just two we didn't mind to sit close to window so that we can have outside view.We went there first time so we didn't know what taste there dishes have.We ended up ordering Calamari Appetizer with main dishes of Roast Lamb and Chicken Souvlaki.I must say i was afraid of the taste as we went to other greek restaurants and there food was pathetic. We don't mind to spend a little bit more but would like to have our bucks are justified on food.when we had our dinner we were quite astonished that this small restaurant has so much taste in there dishes.on top of that servers were friendly and frequently asked if there is anything else we need.Best part we were told they are going to offer 10 % off on everything for seniors in the dinner menu.what else we need???? We will be regular outgoing for greek food for this restaurant.
I happen to stumble upon a quaint Greek restaurant the other day called Johns Greek Taverna.
I was greeted by friendly staff and was really impressed of the Greek style ambiance that they had.
I ended up ordering the Calamari Appy and Roast Lamb dinner. I want to say that it was the most perfect calamari I've ever tasted!! Golden brown, crispy. just the right amount of seasoning and the tsatsiki dip that came on the side was the icing on the cake.
After I enjoyed myself to such a treating starter I was then brought out my main dish, the Roast Lamb. The meat was so tender and juicy, pure delicious and savory. It came with rice a roasted potato, a superb Greek salad and some toasty hot pita bread. The portions were very generous and I ended the meal completely satisfied.
My bill was around 20 bucks, the server was great so I left her a good tip, gave complements to the chef and assured her I would be back again, this time with my family.
My wife and I decided to try a new Greek restaurant around town and stumbled across John's Greek Taverna, which was wedged between a police station and a beauty salon. The decor was not Greek at all, it looked like we were entering an Indian restaurant (I have nothing against Indians, its just that a Greek restaurant should look Greek!), which was a bad sign from the start. I was greeted by a friendly service staff, which was a plus though.
We both ordered the wine "special" which was two glasses of house wine for $8.99, but when we checked the liquor list we realized that it was more expensive than ordering 2 separate glasses of house wine. Ridiculous! Next we shared the dolmades appetizer, which was dry, overseasoned, and probably the worst dolmades I have ever ate! Now me being a a big food lover, saying something is terrible is a pretty big deal. The roast lamb and calamari dinners were even more disappointing, as the salads were small and the potatoes were not Greek-style at all. When I asked the waitress why the food was so unusual, she said that the ownership changed from the original Greek owner (John, I'm guessing) to an Indian couple. I then asked her how many cooks from the previous owner were working and she said none, as they were let go.
No original cooks and a completely different taste of Greek food left a bad taste in my mouth, so I recommend going to any other Greek restaurant if you're in the mood for some Meditteranean food. Next time I think I'll try Jim's Greek Taverna or My Greek Taverna.....
