I've had dinner at Jake's 3 or 4 times now, the prime rib is excellent as is the steak.
I enjoyed the crab cakes.
I found I waitress polite and attentive,I think the food is fairly priced for what you get and the quality.
A piano bar atmosphere for those who like a little soft music, Kids are welcome

In the surrey Inn off King George HWY is Jakes nice enough decore, but the steak will definitely bring me back, service was good everyone with our party was happy with the food, you get a fair portion for what you pay the prices are average of every other steak place, and lot's of free parking. I've been there a few times now and have not been disappointed

This place is Great! I had one of the best Filet Mignons of my life tonight! Great Place. They have a very well thought out wine list with amazing values, many by the glass wines. They have a superior drink and martini list. My husband raved about their beer selection. His Wild Salmon Filet was exceptional too. The service was top notch. Very knowledgeable staff. The atmosphere was pretty nice. The art on display is a real treat. Not your typical. I wish there were more windows but it made it cozy. We will be coming back. Wow!

We've been here a couple of times. Tried various dishes- steaks have been very good, tender, cooked to perfection and are of outstanding value. The veggies that came with it were well thought out and not the soggy frozen kind. The yam fries were yummy. The crab cakes were decent, as good as any other restaurant's and portion was big. Salads were creative and delicious. The lobster macaroni was also tasty. But wish the chunks of lobster were bigger. The let down was the mussels. Being on the coast, you think you would get fresh mussels. Even the waitress assured us that it would be. What they brought me were leathery New Zealand mussels on half shells smothered in a thick chunky tomatoe sauce?!!! It was supposed to be mussels with a tequila lime sauce. Huh? If they don't have enough demand to keep fresh mussels on hand they should just take the mussels right off the menu. The waitress should know the difference. Its pretty obvious. For the dessert, we had the apple pie, which was baked in house. The crust was really thick and tough and the apples were...more like apple sauce. The restaurant has potential but is sloppy is some areas. I hope management pays attention. Surrey really needs a good restaurant.

A casual steak house. Dark and secluded. Good for dates. Live entertainment in the lounge. Friendly service. Superior decor, a mini art gallery. Very old place that is hidden from the public, even though it is on a main street.

The Worst Service Of My Life!!!

To start off, WOW!...and not in a good way. I just got back from this restaurant about 5 mins ago, the time is 11:20 at night...I arrived at the restaurant at 8. 3 hours to get a meal. ABSOLUTLEY RIDICULOUS! So my friend was having her birthday there and she had visited this restaurants many times as she basically lives next door. She has been very happy with their food & service there before so why not have a celebration there? As well my parents had their wedding reception there and my dad also had his work christmas party there this year, so with all these good reviews I was quite excited to have a great meal with some great friends. Not the story. So it starts off and everyone basically arrived within 10-15 mins and water was going around and then about 30 mins later we where asked if we would like any drinks ( let me rephrase that the girl in front of us was asked if shed like a drink-which she said yes, then walked away brought her drink and then left) So me and my boyfriend as well as the rest of the table where left there waiting wondering if we where going to get asked our drink orders- both me and my boyfriend anxiously awaiting a drink. 1 good thing I guess I could say about the restaurant was the hostess actually kept filling our water up which helped ease my hunger pains as our food was obviously going to take forever. I probably had 5 glasses of water. So about an hour and 15 mins of being there we finally got our orders taken (our table being the very last to get our orders even though we where the first people to arrive at the restaurant) Drink orders where taken again (even though it was our first) My boyfriend ordered a Russell Beer on tap and I ordered a mojito. So about 15 mins later my boyfriend gets his beer and I'm told they are out of mint (hence no mojito for moi). So no drink for me, AND my boyfriends beer is flat. My boyfriend had to call for the waitress' attention to tell her that the beer is flat so she went to pour another one which was the exact same so he like me did not have a drink. Also on a side note my boyfriend cleans beer lines at restaurants & pubs and he said that they dont do that place (which basically means they dont get their lines cleaned cause theres no other company in the area) and the fact that the beer tasted horrible their lines are obviously disgusting. So as food is coming and plates are going from finished meals from the other tables and guests are leaving the party my table was still anxiously awaiting our food. So 1 by 1 each meal was coming. 1 girl at my table ordered fettucinne alfredo and she was given carbonara. She was so disgusted with the service she said never mind i'll have nothing. Thats exactly how i felt (honestly when my food came i didnt even want it for the fact i had to wait so long for such a simple item that i had basically lost my appetite and the water honestly wouldve sufficed for my dinner) So then mine finally came. I ordered a veggie burger with a side salad. My meal basically consisted of cutting a bun in half throwing on some condiments & veggies and a burger which takes on average 5 mins to grill and a few veggies thrown into a bowl. Now I waited how long for this you ask? 2 & a half hours! ABSOLUTLEY RIDICULOUS! Now in the past I feel like I've had bad service but this occasion made every other "bad experience" at a restaurant the best visit of my life. I'm going to be talking about this restaurant for daysss and how unbelievably annoyed I am. Also the veggie burger was the cheapest veggie burger you can find on the market, it is the exact same patty that we used at this cheap little cafeteria I worked at. Yes, I know its a steakhouse but c'mon. Also the fact theyre a steakhouse and should specialize in steak my friend ordered the prime rib which was absolutley overdone and he barely ate it. My boyfriend was the very last person to recieve his food(which by the way was the simplest order-beef dip. Slice up some bread, cut a few slices of beef and heat up some au jus) i was basically done my meal while he was just starting his and I was waiting for him to finish so we could pay and get out of there. Another girl at the party ordered a spinach and artichoke dip and with all these orders coming out and knowing ours werent even near being ready she got fed up and asked if they started her order yet because she wanted to cancel it and the waitress said o yes it just went in so she said nevermind. 1 hour later her dip came out. She basically paid for food she didnt want which was a lie it was already started obvious;y. When it came out she had a few bites and then got it to go and left. As well we overheard at the end of the table a girl got a margarita which was rimmed with salt. YES SALT. its not a caeser, its a margarita!!! I didnt talk to the other tables but if our table had that many problems how where the other tables???! The whole entire experience is definatley something I hope I never have to deal with again. When the bill came and the added gratuity was added to the partys cheque I was so mad. They did not deserve a tip at all, I definatley wasnt planning on giving one. Anyways, even with the added tip I left them exact change. I cant believe I stayed at this restaurant to be served my burger 3 hours after sitting down, I wouldve been out of there in 30 mins given it been any other day but obviously im not going to leave a friends birthday party. DO NOT COME TO THIS RESTAURANT!!! Go to the keg theyre always a great choice and excellent customer service. A McDonalds birthday party wouldve been better than this.

Not What I Expected

It was suggested we try here for a birthday celebration. I read the reviews here and was impressed. We were a party of twelve with only 2 other tables taken up in the restaurant. The server was excellent and did what she could to accomodate us. My complaint is that it took over 1 hour and 20 minutes between our appetizer and entree. An extremely long time given there were not allot of people there. One time when we asked what was taking so long we were told they are just plating, and we still waited for more than 15 minutes. I ordered the lobster macaroni and cheese which was made with imitation crab, hardly worth 18.00. No compensation was offered for the long time wait or the overdone halibut that one of us had. I won't be eating there again.

Cheesy Decor & Cookie Cutter Food

A friend and I dined here recently when we couldn't get reservations at a favourite restaurant. I'd seen a couple favorable reviews, and expected to have a nice dinner.

We arrived at around 6:30 or 7pm on a Friday evening and found the place empty excepting one or two tables. We should have turned around right then. We entered the waiting area, waited for several minutes, and not seeing ANY restaurant staff, proceeded to enter the dining room. Still not seeing any wait staff, greeters or even a bus boy, we withdrew to the hotel reception to inquire if the restaurant was actually open. The clerk went off in search of a waiter and we were seated several minutes later.

The dining room decor is an eyesore. Leather booths & banquets mingle with tables and chairs which would not be out of place in an 80's ski lodge. The art is garish, and the wood paneling is pretending to be retro, but just looks like my parent's basement did in the 70's. To top it off, any kind of pleasant atmosphere they might be able to salvage is smashed to pieces by the extremely loud and not so talented piano man who you will want to murder by the time your started arrives.

To start we had the Sweet Potato Crab Cakes with Basil Aioli. They were oily, full of diced peppers with no discernable crab. They tasted like frozen food and probably were. I don't know what the aioli was but it did not contain basil. It was like a southwest mayo, and very thick and gloppy.

The mains were herb crusted halibut with dilled beurre blanc & double thick cut pork chop with a pomegranite ginger glaze. The halibut was passable, though there was no sauce on the plate. It came with rice pilaf and a vegetable medley which was definitely from frozen (I admit to having the exact same medley in my freezer). The pork chop was very well cooked, though it did not seem glazed, or if it was the glaze tastes of nothing and is completely clear. It was supposed to come with roasted sweet potatoes, but came with sweet potato fries. It was also supposed to have candied hazelnuts and seasonal veggies. There were no nuts and the veggies, again, were the frozen medley. When I inquired about the discrepancies in the menu, I was told "the chef doesn't serve it that way anymore". The bill, with 2 drinks came to over $70 (before tip).

Needless to say, by now we knew well enough to skip dessert.

Though the food was a joke, the waitress did her best, and was happy to answer all my questions.

In conclusion, if you're considering it, don't. The food wasn't even on a par with a chain restaurant like the Keg or Earls and that's saying something. Stay home and grill up a steak yourself or go to a real restaurant.
