Il Uk Jo serves Korean BBQ and Japanese sushi specializing in their all you can eat menu.
Tried this restaurant Saturday evening with my Husband. We were seated in one of their dingy booths and placed our drink order. While waiting for our drinks and looking over the limited AYCE menu, we started to notice just how filthy the place was. Not saying anything to each other at this point, we made some food selections on this little slip of paper and the waitress took these upon delivering the drinks.
The glasses that were brought with the bottled beers were disgusting. I thought she must have mistakenly picked up dirty ones they were that bad. It was then we expressed to each other how filthy the place seemed and even contemplated leaving but decided to ride it out since we had placed the order. How bad could it be? In hind sight I'm wishing now that we'd left.
The cook-top that is built into the table has a little lid that flips up to light it - well it was awful! My husband flipped it up to investigate. It was full of grease and bits of food. We couldn't believe our eyes. Just as we see this, some of the food arrives along with plates. You guessed it - the plates were more disgusting than the glasses. I put everything to the end of the table and showed the girl how dirty they were and we couldn't/wouldn't use them. She said nothing, took them away and never brought clean replacements. The food we did "try", we ate off the plates it was delivered on.
The food was terrible. I was hesitant to eat most of it - the things I could manage were awful. The sushi not being fresh was the least of it. Someone posted earlier about the sashimi, they were right, it was very bad, we were afraid to eat it. I do not think it was stored or handled properly.
The Korean BBQ pork was nothing but hunks of fat. We ordered one chicken dish - three different chicken dishes arrived. When I pointed this out to the waitress she didn't understand. She had the slip of paper with the items ticked off on it and I showed her that only one chicken dish was ordered and what were these other dishes? - she stood there with a blank stare and said/did nothing. I finally said that it didn't really matter except that we were not going to eat it and it was probably meant for someone else's table. (They had their "rules & regulations" on the menu about charging for wasted food so I wanted it known why we wouldn't be eating it!)
We got these ones we didn't order and did not get four of the items we did check off - not that it mattered as things started to unfold - I'm now believing this was a stroke of luck they didn't arrive!! We were also overcharged for drinks on the bill.
I would NOT recommend this hole to anyone, we will NOT be returning and we went to the Dairy Queen across 152nd Street when we left because we both wanted something decent enough to eat and erase the memory of what we had just put ourselves through. NEVER AGAIN.
