My partner and I were going for a walk yesterday (Friday evening) and noticed this place. It looked empty, so we thought we'd go in for a drink and maybe a quick bite to eat. We walked in, and the bartender and waitress just looked at us, no smiles. Said sit wherever and then went to the kitchen. Wow. Bad start already. Finally caught the waitress' attention and she asked what we wanted. I said how about a menu. I'll just cut this short - but am saying this to give you an idea. We both ordered Stanley Park ales, and I ordered a burger, my partner had 2 piece cod & chips. I swear, 30 mins later after waiting for another drink, to no avail, I asked how much longer it would be. She said probably another 10 mins!!! Meantime, another beer finally. To sum it up, the fish was tiny, soggy, and under fried. Chips on both burger and fish weren't cooked enough and were somewhat warm. The tarter sauce and coleslaw were old and disgusting, with WAY too much salt. Meanwhile we had to watch some young cook dance around, and sing through the kitchen window. I made a joke to my partner, first fish & chip place with dinner show. The waitress gleemed over and said if we didn't like the place, we didn't have to come back and that the cook was actually a part owner.
So, in total, for the worst fish & chips, under cooked burger & chips, 4 beers, our bill was $64 including tip. I was reluctant to leave a tip based on the bad food, snarky attitude of the waitress, but ended up rounding it to $70 and we got up. Not even a thanks as we slowly made our way to the door shaking our heads. We definately DO NOT reccomend this. They'll get business during the summer, only cause they have a good location and large patio. I'd suggest you make a little effort to those who contribute to paying your bills in the OFF season though.
I was there to fill in my hungry stomach after a long walk and photography 'session.' I came in and the woman server didnt even say hello, nevertheless, i greeted her and said to me yoou can choose wherever you like. She handed me the plastik-laminated menu and said to me she'll be right back. So I decided to order Baked Cod that comes with a coleslaw and I chose steamed coconut white rice, sounds good doesn't it? However, it took 25 minutes for her to be 'right back at me!' She was busy tidying up the rest of the table, on an on. I was thinkin of leavin, but i wanted to try the food in here... Finally my food arrived, but it was a TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT, the fish is very small(not even a kid's portion), bland and i can tell its prev frozen, the rice was ok though. the coleslaw had a funny taste to it, i think it has been kept for a while. it costed me $16.
Overall, I was not happy, I did try and DEFINITELY WILL NOT GO BACK anymore! Lisa
I went this past Saturday night with a group of friends, who decided to order most things off the menu to try a tasting of everything. Fish and chips. Fish tacos. Salads. Calamari. Pulled pork poutine. The taste was good, how ever the portions are way to small for everything except calamari. Server staff was friendly and attentive. Drink prices were averages.
The place was busy, but you could overhear a kid in the kitchen swearing at other staff, yelling at servers to pick up when they were busy with customers and very mean to the front workers. Perhaps he should be professional when a whole dining room can hear him. I'd go back on a nice day for drinks on the outside patio but that's about it unless they fix there mistakes.
I love this place. I eat fish and chips all up and down the beach - used to eat at Coney Island (which is great!) but this is better in most ways...atmosphere is classy and the deck is the best in the area, right ON the beach no other restaurant has that...what a view. If you sit near the kitchen you can hear the craziness I agree...but that is part of the charm. Its a busy place...feeding hundreds of people tends to make some noise...
I will be back thanks for the great summer vibes Hooked!
My husband and I chose to go Crescent Beach today for lunch on a beautifulSpring day. We liked the menu of this restaurant and decided to give it a try. We were greeted right away and told to seat ourselves. We sat on the patio at one of the many dirty tables at about 1:30 in the afternoon. To make a long story short, it took several minutes to get our order taken, my husband ordered a beer and the waitress never brought it. He had to go and find her after 15 mins to remind her. Our food was dropped off and the waitress never came back to see how everything was , nor was she around for us to flag down to get us cutlery, napkins, ketchup and a coffee refill. Nearing the end of our meal we finally saw the other waiter walk by us and we were able to get napkins and a coffee refill. I couldnt drink the coffee though because I didn't have cream and getting the waiters attention had already proved very difficult. It took another several minutes to get her attention to get our bill. It was honestly a very painful dining experience and the first time in my life I have left zero for a tip. Not ONE time did our server come by to see how we were doing, we had to flag her down or go and find her.
We witnessed the same thing with all of the tables around us too.
The food was pretty good, but not worth it for the terrible service.
