Poor Service Under Old Ownership

I'm glad to hear this restaurant is under new ownership. The server we had two year ago was awful. We may consider going back now that the owner is new! Hopefully the same server no longer works there. Two years ago my husband, daughter and I went to the restaurant. The service was so poor, we actually walked out. I've never done that!

We ordered our meals. Our young daughter ordered her own. The waitress repeated our order back to us and it was right. It took 45 minutes to get two of the meals. She didn't bring our daughter's meal at all. I asked if it was coming soon and she replied, "I thought she was joking! I didn't think she wanted anything." And the server had repeated the order back to us earlier on! My daughter was so hungry. Then the server said, without even apologizing, "Well, I could put her order in now, but it'll be at least another 45 minutes." That's all! No apology or anything. Not even an offer to bring a roll with butter. We were so disgusted we stood up, left and went to another restaurant for a meal with good service.

To this day, our daughter says, "Remember that mean waitress who said I lied about wanting to eat lunch?" Unbelievable.

Anyways, all I tried was some of the salad and it was OK.

I hope this person doesn't work in the new restaurant. By the sound of the new reviews, it looks like a good place now.

I live very close to the Harbour House restaurant but never went before because of the bad experiences others had found when dining there. Now it is under new ownership and has because a very good Japanese restaurant. We went there tonight for dinner and had a lovely meal in a warm contemporary environment. My husband ordered the bulgogi which came out sizzling hot on a cast iron pan. It was very tasty and not oily which was a nice change from so many places that serve this Korean dish. I ordered the oshitashi, tuna roll, shitake roll and asparagus roll. All my items were prepared so well. The oshitashi was light and fresh. The tuna was exceptionally fresh and delicious... no fishy taste at all. The shitake was a little peppery which was so nice. All the rolls had a perfect rice consistency and high quality nori.
Our waitress was very attentive and cute. She was always replenishing our tea and asking us how we were enjoying our meal.
Very worth checking out.

Beautiful restaurant with great fresh sushi and delish other items

I finally went to this new sushi place and loved it. The portions were reasonably generous and the food was fresh and well presented. the service was great on this particular night. I ordered the platter for 2 which had plenty of raw fish and calif/dynamite rolls for 2 people @ $30 total. the presentation was exquisite and the ambience was beautiful, much nicer than most japanese restaurants (like a whistler chalet setting). I would like to go back and try the cooked food as it looked great walking by. I had a great experience and plan to go back.

It is worth the drive!

(new Japanese Restaurant)

The drive is definitely worth it for me at Harbour House in South Surrey. Both of my visits have been exceptional. The food and service was consistent each time.

Ambiance:
Very clean and comfortable seating and surroundings. Architecture is somewhat western and cottage-like which contrasts the mostly Japanese-themed cuisine. Parking is a bit challenging specially during peak hours. The area boasts a beautiful walking-distance beach and ocean view.

Food:
Beautifully crafted and garnished dishes, parallel to presentations I've had in upscale restaurants at a fraction of the cost. I ordered their house special salad to start out with and I must say it is one of my favorite dish they have. Their fish are fresh (I ordered the Saba sashimi) the serving is generous, contrary to other reviews on here. Flavor is unique and well-balanced, not overpowering like comparable restaurants.

Service:
Excellent service from the staff, very prompt, friendly and courteous. Although some are noticeably new to the trade, they are compensated by their warm smiles and welcoming service.

Value:
A dinner for 2 complete with 2 appetizers, 4 main dishes, dessert and wine comes to about $45 including taxes and tip. A agreat bang for your buck!

Pros: Service, food, value
Cons: Parking, far location (for me)

I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who ventures to the area.

Unbeatable Value

Friends who live in Crescent Beach urged us to try the "new" Harbour House---great food and low prices .. and they'll even do take out. In summary: it's great! The food is very good, fresh with a great presentation; for a flegling operation, the staff are trying hard and are likely still learning. The biggest surprise? Dinner for four with tip: $46.00....and we are active people with good appetites..we walked away satiated with everyone raving about the food and the VALUE.

The location is great with lots of free parking nearby; first impression is casual elegant..but the reality is that it is more casual and fun; full menu with lots of items for the two at our table who did not like "raw fish".. Generous extra bowls of wasabi and ginger were appreciated as was the constant flow of green tea. Best Value in the Semiahmoo!

Don't Bother....

My friend and I ate at Harbor Side this past Sunday evening .. definitely will NOT go back, nor will we recommend it.
The restaurant is beautiful, I will give them that, but there certainly wasn't anything special about their food nor their portions; in fact, their portions were terrible.
My friend ordered an entree ($19.99) and when it was served to him, I would have thought anywhere else it would have been considered an embarrassment, the portions were so minute.
Save your money..... go the Tenkai in Coquitlam on Austin Avenue - their fabulous all way 'round.
