Went here for dinner with the better half and some friends. I ordered the special which consist of a steak with some deep fried prawns, mashed potatoes and vegies. Also had some yam fries, spring roles and hot wings for appies. Overall great experience. The waitress could have refilled the drinks more frequently but overall was good. The steak was not the finest quality, but for $8.95 I did not expect too much. The deep fried prawns was excellent along with the spring roles and hot wings. The value at this pub is next to none. I am very happy that I found this place and would continue to patronize there.
,The Other Half and I were looking for a new pub to try for lunch on Friday. Being in the Guildford area of Surrey, we went looking for this pub.
We arrived JUST after the major lunch rush, which looked to have been busy indeed. Still a mostly full place at 1:30, lots of people coming and going.
Ambiance - very nice. Railroadiana-themed, lofty ceilings. It seemed bigger than it actually was.... not a bad thing for a claustrophobe (me)... Empty tables were cleaned off speedily, and the server made eye-contact as we settled on a table. Very pleasant young lady - busy but personable. I also liked that the servers, on this beautiful spring day, were NOT clad in skimpy black, but bright colours.
Value - amazing. One of the least-expensive places we've stopped at lately. Servings were a good size. The OH had a bowl of chili, which was pronounced to be nice and spicy. I ordered my "usual", a steak sandwich, steak done rare, with fries. Fries were standard, but nice and hot. Steak was a bit overdone, a bit tough. BUT, for three drinks and two filling lunches, less than $30 was good value.
As mentioned, our server was prompt, friendly and engaging. She made the whole experience a very welcoming one.
A few things a bit out of the ordinary on a pub menu, some of which I'd like to try when we revisit, which we will!
I have been here a few times, and it is by far, the best pub in Surrey!
The food is great pub food with great selection. It seems that 95% of their menu items are under $10. Do not let the price trick you though. The food is of very good quality and quantity.
This place is always quite busy in the evenings, but the hostess (who I believe is the manager or owner) is always very attentive and will always try to find you a spot as soon as possible.
The service staff are great and very attentive.
The crowd is awesome. Majority of people look like they're local neighbours or work nearby. Doesn't seem like the young "gangster" crowd come to this place, which is awesome. Everyone seems to enjoy themself here and not looking for trouble.
I love this place, sometimes I wonder why I even open the menu! Food is amazing, the prices are even better and it always has a great vibe! the place is always packed! I've been to station 100x + rarely do I leave unhappy and if I have its cause of the service. Sometimes you get the stuck up server, who could care less you are there but whatever, just shew her away asap and continue ur rendevous with great friends good food and tipsy of the cheap drinks! This is a must go place for real good bar food!!
I have been coming to this pub for a few years now. Great value and good drinks. The service is very good and servers are very attentive even on busy nights. Try the Cajun wings, they are the best! have tried a lot of different food from the menu and never been disappointed. Above all, the value for what you get is amazing. Best Pub in Surrey!
Boyfriend and I came to this place for a friend's birthday, and it was absolutely amazing.
Food: I wouldn't say it was the greatest quality, but everything was prepared well. Boyfriend had the 1lb wings and Stationmaster. I had the French Onion Soup and Cajun Fry. I have to say that the wings were great, the meat was moist, but slightly drowned in the sauce. When the Stationmaster arrived, we wondered if the plate had been switched with a pasta order. No. There was just pasta piled on top of the steak, and the shrimp/crab was wonderfully fresh. The french onion soup was a little salty for my liking, but the solid beef broth pulled it all together. On the menu, the Cajun Fry says it comes with mexifries, but beware, they're actually curly fries, but oh-so delicious.
Service: It was getting later in the night, so our waitress was a busier than usual, so I won't hold her to anything.
Value: Come here if you want to have lots of good food for a good price. I couldn't believe what they were giving us for the price. The appetizer section is godly, that might be all we order the next time.
Ambiance: Other than the interesting locomotive decor, its just like any other pub, really. Its got a more welcoming feel than most pubs, however.
Overveiw: We would probably make a trip to this place more often if only it wasn't so far away.
We have been going here for about 6 years and have been to every pub in Surrey and many across BC and I have to say for the money/food value this is the best pub by far!
The food is great and for the price (everything under $10 on the menu) its worth it! Drinks are also decently priced compared to other pubs.
Make sure if you go on game nights or on special likes (like wings, steak or beef ribs) that you get there early or you can be waiting up to 30 minutes for a seat. I really with they would remove the patio or at least make it non smoking all together so that they free up tons of more space for seating. Only downside is that the pub is fairly small for the large number of clientele that frequent the pub.
Also best wings compared to any resturant/pub/takeout you can find!
I've been going to the Guildford Station for years, and for good reason. This place has always been about value above all else.....the beer is reasonably priced, even cheap when specials are on, and the food is great.
They have a wide selection of beers and anything else you'd ever want to drink. The beer is always cold, and refilled as quickly as you'd want.
The food has never been bad there.....their menu is well done, offering everything from traditional pub fare such as wings and burgers to healthier options such as wraps, salads and (bless them) a GOOD vegetable platter with a LOT of fresh veggies and dip. I gush on that because I went to another pub (which shall remain nameless) where I ordered a vegetable platter and got red peppers, cauliflower, and ARTICHOKE HEARTS.....with some nasty yellow dip to boot.
All in all, my favourite place to go when I want a beer, or when I want some good cheap food, or when I want some beer and some cheap food. The volume of people there speaks for itself; these days you'll be waiting a while for a table on any Friday or Saturday night, or for any game night.
I've been going to this pub for about 5 years now once or twice a week -- it is hands down the best pub in all of the lower mainland. We've tried every other pub (55+) in a 35km radius and nothing compares to the food, value, and satisfaction you get at the station. I consider this my 'second home' and find a lot of friendly and familiar faces there all the time.
The place is quite cozy, the patrons vary from couples in their 20's to 60's and is definitely not a 'dive bar' style of place. You will also find people of different ethnicities enjoying the pub, which lends to it not being a biker bar either. The drinks are priced well, there is a special every day, and the sunday brunch with the omlette bar is amazing.
Through my travels all across north america trying different burgers and I have to say that this pub has the most satisfying and consistent burgers. I highly recommend the 'station' or 'conductor' burger.
Why aren't there more pubs like this?
