At Fresgo Inn Restaurant and Bakery, we pride ourselves in creating a unique cafeteria style dining experience. Though our ambience is a little old school, the portions are huge, the price right and we're one of the few places in BC that still bake every hamburger, sub, hot dog bun and loaf of bread used for our meals fresh every single day.
With something on the menu to suite everyone, we have senior and kids specials daily. And we've just added Pizza to the menu!
I love to go to Fresgo Inn for cheesecake, which I can never finish. They have really good veggie burgers too! I took a friend here on Labour Day, he ordered a bacon cheese sandwich, while had a veggie burger, when he saw the size of my burger he wished he had gotten what I got. Also, the portion of yam fries that I got was huge and well worth the extra two bucks to upgrade. I will be going back again and again. Next time I will get my burger without mayo, I find it was a bit slippery, other than that I enjoyed everything.
Weve eaten at Fresgo's many times now and I have to say the food is very consistent. Like other reviews will tell you the buns are fresh, portions huge and food generally good tasting. I will also add that the staff are very friendly(always giving the little ones free cookies etc.). The decor is dated yes, but in an 80's retro way which goes well with the music you hear there. We particularly like the breakfast menu. Me the omelettes and the wife the eggs benny. Sure it costs just as much as say Rickys or the Pantry but the portions will fill you up till dinner(thats if you can finish). For lunch or dinner the subs(especially the super: WOW) and burgers(mushrooms anyone?) are surefire hits. We found the comfort foods(like spaghetti and meat balls)while big in portions, were generally underseasoned. I think they might do that on purpose though to appeal to an older crowd.
This restaurant won us over not by being pretensious. It is what it is and thats a good meal and a good time out.
Who knew places like this still exist in 2009?! I was happily surprised when my bf and I ventured into Fresgo - a cafeteria-styled restaurant with 80's (?) decor and budget-priced food.
At first glance, the prices seem average (ie. 10 bucks for a spaghetti and meatballs) but then we received the food. The portions are HUGE. Giant platter huge. My bf and I shared the dish and only finished half (including 2 garlic toasts that came with it) and were stuffed... I'd even go as far to say that this ONE meal can feed a family of four if the parents are moderate eaters with small kids.
Granted, you get what you pay for in terms of food quality, but it's definitely edible.
Doesn't seem like the cleanest place (table was sticky, something unidentifiable stuck to one of the garlic toast, dining area definitely needs a face lift...) but great dining value, and something different to try when you just want to get full and go easy on your wallet doing so.
I tried their infamous fresh mushroom burger, which lives up to the hype and comes open faced loaded with the most mushrooms I've ever seen. It's enough food for two people I had leftovers, the burger is served on one plate and the fries on another, and the cost is only $7.30 for the burger with fries. The burger wasn't outstanding, I didn't like the beef patty, next time I might have the grilled chicken patty, but the mushrooms were tender and delicious and the whole wheat bun was hearty and tasty.
Their dessert slices are $4-$5 or a small black forest cake is $12. Everything is homemade and delicious. I liked the slice of blueberry pie I tried.
The setting is sort of like a cafeteria/diner and we had a view of where everyone's order came up and everything looked appetizing.
I,ve been eating here for over 25 years. And it,s the only Family Restaurant that i know of or have been to that has it,s own Bakery (Large) and Prep. Kitchen where they make their own soups, salads, gravy, hamburger patties and so on. Knowing too that the owner is a chef makes me trust what i eat there. The portions are outstanding! I also like how you can change your order to what you like.(no fries, mashed potatoes instead) Another unique thing also is there are no waitresses. You pay first, they cook your order, call your number ,you get it and enjoy your meal! NO TIP! It,s worth the foot work.
Went here for lunch with my wife. She ordered the Philly cheese steak wrap and I ordered the infamous mushroom burger and a fountain drink. My wife did not really like her wrap as it had too many onions and cheese that it overwhelm her wrap. Mine on the other hand was pretty good. Lots of mushrooms on the burger. The fountain drink that we had was a bit expensive for what its worth. Overall the experience was positive. If you want some cheap eats, quantity over quality and do not care about the outdated ambiance, I would give this place a try.
This place has changed. I used to come here 10-15 years ago and the food was not bad and it was a great bang for the buck. I came back recently and it was beyond horrible... Will never be back here again that's for sure.
Food tasted like cardboard full of grease.
The lady and the man working at the till were completely rude.
For the price, you do get a good portion of food.
This place hasn't remodeled or changed from as long as I can remember. Very old looking

The Fresgo Inn has been a popular Surrey Diner for over 20+ years. A blue collar ambiance equals its surrounding neighborhood. Yes, the furniture is pretty old but retains a certain timeless charm.
One of the most popular meals is the Mushroom burger. A healthy serving of grilled mushrooms that overflows a separated bun with your selection of single, double or triple beef patties. A tasty treat for burger lovers.
Don't even get me started on the Mushroom burger or Schnitzel meal. It's grease heaven for super hungry eaters. And it tastes good too!
As a true diner, there's also a plenty of other selections to eat. Most of the meals I've tried we're never a disappointment. You come away satisfied after visiting this joint.
Big portions, big taste, free wireless internet, fresh hot food, free flowing coffee, lots of room, lots of free parking, good background music, what else could you ask for? You order at the cashier, they call your number when its ready, no waiting for waitresses to get to your order. They have a killer bakery on site too so you can take home some goodness.
I live not too far away from Fresgo's and have been there many times since I was younger. It is not a high class or "great" restaurant by any means, but it is one of my favorite "dives". Food portions are HUGE and if you can finish a full meal, I would be very surprised. I almost always get the Double Bacon Cheeseburger & Montreal Style poutine. Quick route to a heart attack, but damn it is good!
Food can really be hit or miss. Sometimes the burgers come out great and fresh, other times it seems like they have been on the grill all day. (They haven't. You can see them cook your burger if you really want to watch.) Maybe a result of all the younger staff they seem to hire.
One caution though, our family has gotten sick from the food at this restaurant. The Chicken Ceaser Salad dressing must have gone bad. It tasted fine, but the next day we all woke up sick. Haven't been back since, but I've been craving their Chowder.
I am submitting the cumulative observations made by my family and some clients over the course of 5 visits. It is worth noting that the breakfast menu is served all day. There is no table service, one places and order and picks it up when your number is called, but the average time of food preparation is 12 minutes. The longest was 15. It is a very efficient operation. The meals are exceptionally generous, with usually the entrees served on one platter and the side dishes on another. My daughter and a client thought the Chicago style (that must be requested in advance and prepared by Walter) New York steak (available in 8 or 12 oz) was impeccable, the equal of any steak offered by more prestigous and expensive competitors. The special omelette (sausage, bacon, green onions, cheddar and a lot of mushrooms), with a large serving of real homestyle hash browns and toast, also got rave reviews. The lentil soup is very hearty and satisfying. So too are the mushroom and steak burgers. Although most of the reviews have focused on the hot entrees, I thought the best food items of all were the desserts, which are enough for 4 people. The cheesecakes are decadent in quality and quantity. The sandwiches are well made too, in no small part to the quality of the bread, which they also make on location.
The staff are courteous, friendly, and helpful in suggestions on what to order. Overall, this place offers formidable value for money. The place is open from 8am to 11pm daily. Recommended with enthusiasm.
wide variety but all meals are very very bland. been there many times and tried just about everything...kinda forced to go there on a regular basis due to group meetings held there often. i have never ate a delicious meal there ever and infact i have yet to eat a meal i even enjoyed. all my friends i have taken there never wanna go back saying the food sucks so i know it's not just me. portions use to be huge but not anymore (probably due to the economy) and there recent price increases and reduced quantities and now even more reduced quality make it very hard to dine there. atmosphere is poorly dated from the 70's or 80's and now very obviously worn out shabby looking and hardly spic and span, going into washrooms will turn you off eating. order takers vary from no personality to no knowledge as there mostly young and non-dedicated here today gone tomorrow types. cooks are a mixed bag with a hit and miss for too over cooked or dried out. i have read many complaints about bad food and it's true if it tastes odd do not eat it, ask for a different item all together as alot of the food is made in large batches and sits.
Come for the cheap price, stay for HUGE eats!!!!! Well what else can I say ab out this place!!!
FOOD: I recommend the the WORLD FAMOUS MUSHROOM BURGER!!!! This is served open faced with, what is got be at least 1 lb. of mushrooms or more!!! Belive me no matter what u order u will be taking home left overs. They serve all sorts of homestyle goodness( shnitzels, chicken terayki, spaghetti and meatballs, meat loaf), just to name a few. The cheese cakes are also good. Also, the fountain drinks can be HUGE as well.,
SERVICE: You walk in, order what you like, pay up front they give you a number, and u sit where want and wait untill they call you up!!! It's that simple!!!
VALUE: For the amount you pay, it's worth buying. Belive me every time I go there, I end up with enough for dinner.
AMBIANCE: This not the place for ambence, although in the summer one can sit outside and enjoy the warm weather.
Overall, if you want great, cheap eats at affordable prices than this is place!!!
Forget the ambiance!!!!!
A friend of mine introduced me to the special omelette, and despite my lactose intolerance, I always love it.
Considering the large size of the omelette, and the mushroom burger, one can definitely share any one meal with someone who is a big eater.
Most definitely I'd go back to this place repeatedly with friends and loved ones.
I have been to Fresgos many many times, and every time, I am simply amazed! My sister once ordered a Chef Salad there, but got the wrong dressing but did not notice it until it was alrady on the salad, so she brought it back. They made a completely new one, two times the size, and apologized a lot! I really do say that it is worth going to.
OMG this place rocks!!! The food is amazing, not only in taste but in quantity! I can guarantee you that no matter how big your appetite is you will never leave there hungry! I know that some people don't like the cafeteria style setting, but I don't mind it at all, the service is good and the food is ready QUICKLY which to me is important especially with kids! I have been there TONS and TONS of times and have only once had a complaint about the food! The desert is also awesome but rarely do we have room for that, lol, if we do then we share a piece of cheese cake, YUM!
I always come here if I am short on money and I need to fill myself up. As some of the titles say on here, yes this restaurant DOES give one the true meaning of "never leaving hungry", I strongly agree with that :).
The service is excellent and the food takes no more then 5-10 mins to make, which is good. Also, you can see the staff cook the food to show accuracy, this I love.
The atmosphere to this was excellent, here is why: When I walk along the side to the entrance, I notice the various flags they have on the side of the window, this would always make me smile because I know that Canada is well-known for welcoming multicultural citizens and various foods.
Lastly, the value to this place is wonderful, for 10 dollars, you can get a HUGE amount of food for a reasonable good price.
In conclusion, if you are just visiting Canada and are around the Surrey area, come check this place out, you will NOT be disappointed.
Take care.
I first experienced the Fresgo Inn many years ago when it had a West End location. Experience is an apt word because few other restaurants serve such enormous portions for such a reasonable price. After moving to Surrey a few years ago I was pleased to find it had a location there with the same approach. The quality and flavour varies from dish to dish. The burgers are huge but other than that not outstanding, but if you're a mushroom lover you must try the mushroom burger at least once. Fries are tasty. The spaghetti and meat balls is one of my favourites, though I can only eat half of what they serve!. The snitzel (sp?)is tasty too. The cesar salad has plenty of garlic. Salmon is surprisingly good - flakey and not overcooked. Mixed vegetables tend to be overcooked though, and the battered fish is too greasy for my taste. For lighter fare try the chicken cesar of chefs salad.
People may have mixed opinions of the Fresgo Inn, but it is very popular. That speaks volumes.
Fresgo's as it's known has stood the test of time,if your hungry as a horse this is the place to go.
Lots of food cheap prices, food bland but you get lots, the super sub is two meals, unless you have an animal appetite.
Bakery is nice, fresh what bakery doesn't smell good.
Decor is plain cafeteria style.
