Wide selection of appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas and pastas.
Being non drinkers has never stopped us from trying pub food but sometimes the coffee is so bad I wonder how much harm can 1 beer do. The coffee here needed help. The best thing I can say was that it was lukewarm. Food wise the place was a failure. Everything was dry and tasteless. Service was okay as I was waited on by a beauty that looked like a young Demi Moore. Restroom was okay and the parking lot was quite large. Seemed to be a lot of regulars as young Demi knew everyone by name. 8 tvs and the volume was at a respectable level so that you could converse. Lots of sports memorabilia hanging on the walls. Nice kind of place, I just wish the food was better.
the food was good but the service very poor. we had no silverware and when we asked for some we were told our burgers and fries were finger food. also no condiments, so I got my own. when we asked to have half salad, 1/2 fries we were told rudely it is not possible. we were astounded by her rudeness. when we were done and the cheque was ready she grabbed off the table and marched off., no thank you, zip. I would not go back there to be treated like this. it is the third time in a row we have had bad service. I guess we are slow learners. she wanted to do as little as possible. we can find other places to eat. everyone was treated like this. AWFUL!!
I really enjoyed my dinner here last week. We started with bruschetta, which had a bit of spiciness - very yum. I had the lasagna, made with house-made pasta, which was excellent. My brother ordered a peppercorn steak that was cooked perfectly - it wasn't steakhouse quality, but it was still pretty good. They have good selection of beer and wine. I also enjoyed the dessert. Forest has a very nice atmosphere, and the service was pretty good. Actual service not like a cheap sushi or chinese place. I would definitely return.
This pub is tacked onto the back of the Black Forest Restaurant on King George Highway in Surrey. Usually, there seems to be quite a number of cars in the parking lot - today, for a late lunch, there were just a few.
The Other Half and I wandered in around 1:00 pm on a Thursday. Only two other tables occupied, and no waitstaff in sight. Not wanting to sit and be overlooked, we stood around until a staff person appeared.
The room, as mentioned, seems to be an overflow from the schnitzel-und-stuff restaurant. Heavy wooden tables, vaguely European-peasant-styled chairs (comfortable, though). Lots of screens with sports. It was clean and tidy, and once we were noticed, the service was perfunctory, but OK.
The OH had a schnitzel cordon bleu (ham and cheese) burger with Caesar salad, I ordered the first-time test dish of steak sandwich with fries. Drinks came quickly, food came quickly. The food, for a pub, was very, very good. A more-than-passable caesar salad, and a great burger. Excellent steak sandwich, done as ordered, with very tasty fried mushrooms. The fries were also excellent, with long-ways grooves - very hot, fresh and crispy.
Despite some determined attempts to engage the server with conversation and pleasantries, she was not at all interested in warming up. Too bad, other than the offhand manner of the server, it was an excellent lunch.
Recommended.
PS Washrooms clean and up-to-date.
My wife and I have been going to the same pub in Ocean Park and it’s starting to get a little stale.
The place is hopping and the cute servers are more interested in their hair or conversation with a
co-worker. You have tipped well and have been a non demanding patron for years and one night you show up, sit in the same section as always and get ignored by the server who is busy gabbing to a customer friend.
You look up around you and you notice the cob webs and the dust. Condiments with greasy paw prints, old food left on the bench and to think you spend $60 bucks a week with a good tip for mediocre food because it’s close at hand.
Hence its time to start looking for a new sports bar when we heard that the new owners and staff at the Old Black Forest Pub have polished the rooms up added some comfortable chairs and tables, shooter bar, patio steak bbq and some decent prices on both the libations and the grub.
On my third visit back the Masters was on TV and user friendly they are situated. I also like the fact they have NTN trivia to play as well.
The food is well presented and is worthy enough to be called deluxe.
Fresh crisp greens, a great tasting burger with a bun that will stand up to the toppings. [Kudos on that one]
The fried items are crisp and not greasy including the Schnitzels.
The salads is a good portion, the steak is tasty and good value.
The Appies are on special during happy hour from 3/6 along with the drink specials and I must say it was right on and solid.
The service staff is friendly and quick to replenish your needs.
I must say also that they sure have done a great job of cleaning the old place up.
All the service cutlery and plate ware were spotless on each visit and the décor tidy and clean.
The owners have a good chef and a good menu with a staff that serves well.
If you’re looking for a place to have better than mediocre food and service I suggest you give the New Forest Pub a try.
Most things changed at this established pub- now under new management- The food ordered , at least the burger meat and accompanying add-ons were good (and looked good) but the strange new fangled square bun was stale at best. It would definitely have been better with a fresh bun, round or square. Freshness is key. The beer, both specialty and daily special draft was good but possibly misleading- a ?? 20oz advertised draft in a 16oz glass- What's that? In any event, the beer was super cold and very good, especially on this HOT day. The interior- newly remodelled, was open and pleasant with great cool air conditioning.
Hopefully on a subsequent trip- which we anticipate will be in the next week or two will find a bit fresher bread served with the main dishes. This is a very clean, airy, bright dining pub. Lots of room for smaller and large groups. Give it a try. We will definitely try it again.
