Fantastic Indian sweets store run by the same group as Desi Junction.
I was so excited to find this place because I love the Desi Junction restaurants so when I saw this little sweets store with their logo on it I had to try it.
When I initially visited this sweets store it had just opened up so everything was tasty and fresh. I was so impressed.
Unfortunately on a return visit a few of the sweets were stale which ruined the taste.
I'm not sure if it's because their sweets aren't kept cool or if sweets just have a short shelf life and they are not getting rid of the older sweets before restocking with fresher made sweets. I don't see why they can't store the sweets in an airtight container or something as well.
They have barfi made with dates or dried figs with nuts. Maybe because figs have preservatives this didn't taste stale.
They also had some specialty drinks like almond milk but I haven't tried these.
I used to go to Calgary sweets before for Indian sweets and I never had a problem with some sweets being stale so they will still get my business til Desi's Sweet sorts out the stale tasting sweets issue.
I wish they would say what was freshly made that day so I would definately buy those.
If you do visit this place ask for a sample to ensure the sweet you are buying tastes fresh.
It was a little busy, with a couple guys infront of me, and I was waiting in line to pick up sweets, because it sounded like a good place to go to. When i was my turn, the guy acted like he didn't care and didn't even reply to what i said. He just filled a box of sweets with an unfriendly looking face, not even trying to smile. The only things he said to me was $11.22, and once I paid he said next. So I left a little rattled, thinking atleast the food was at a decent value. But the sweets were pretty stale, and he rasgulai weren't even a little juicy. Thats when i decided i'm not getting my sweets from that place again.
I love the Desi Junction restaurants so when I saw this little sweets store with their logo on it I had to try it. They have delicious fresh sweets. The taste of ghee, butter and browned butter & of course lots of sugar comes through in their sweets. All the usual suspects are here if you are familiar with Indian sweets including some awesome speciality items! They have barfi made with dates or dried figs with nuts. This looked like a piece of dark fudge but I love dates so it was awesome. Dates are naturally very sweet. There was this thin square burfi made with almonds and raisins it was like a halva burfi! Their carrot burfi was light and almost fluffy and cakelike. It wasn't too sweet either. I wish the chocolate and white burfi had a thicker chocolate layer. I also wish they made just an almond burfi without raisins. There were lots of pistachio ones but I'm not that into pistachio. Their jaleebis were the normal thicker ones but these were crisp and fresh and super sweet. These treats are great for when you are in the mood for a sugar rush. They also had some specialty drinks like almond milk but these weren't available when I went. I used to go to Calgary sweets before for Indian sweets but now my new favorite place is Desi's Sweet Factory. Must try's are the date burfi and the carrot burfi.
I usually read reviews & write reviews as feed back for ppl like me who might be out there like me.
I have been looking for a Gujrati sweet's place in surrey for a few years now, as I relocated from Ontario. Being in surrey, every other food Sweet's shop is East Inidan or packaged sweets by Sanjay Sweets. While I would prefer to have FRESHLY made Sanjay's sweets, it is impossible.
This year due to some health issues I decided to buy all my sweets from Desi Sweet Factory. I happened to see this place by chance when I went to drop my brother to Taj Banquet hall on 128th. The place is indeed small in the front. But has some seating place to wait. There were about 6 guys ahead of me. This gave me time to pick what I wanted. The girl at the counter acknowledge me and said " I will be with you in a bit" I was impressed. There was another gentleman who came from the back and asked If I was taken care of. He looked like he may be the manager. He then went back and was helping inteh kitchen as you could see through the open outlet of Kitchen. I bought a lot of Bangoli Sweet's from the Desi Sweets. They were VERY Fresh. I liked their Containers in which I got the Rasgoola's. These were in a airtight Container. The sweets were packed in Desi Boxes which were Grease proof sort off. The best part of the deal was that these Sweets were NOT loaded with Sugar. I circulated these sweets in my family & frens. 2 of my aunt's called me today to ask where I had bought the sweets from as I had repackaged them :) I told them. They loved the sweets as these had a very Home Made feel to it. Now days we all look for low calorie n less sugar. I know I have found my sweet shop "The Desi Sweets'. Only thing that I couldnt find was the menu brochure / item list except written on the board. I wanted to get some and offer them to all the ppl I know. Maybe it was diwali time and being new they didnth ave everything out. I am going back to them for my next upcoming xmas parties and all future events. As I can see this place getting more busy in due time, I would rather order ahead of time then shop around (which I wouldnt mind) .. Great job guys & I sure will be recomending you to all my network... Keep up the SWEET WORK :)
