De Dutch specializes in breakfast, brunch and lunch, offering customers a unique blend of European ethnicity in menu items. De Dutch 'Strawberry Hill' (Surrey) offers a dinner menu.
Early this "Remembrance Day" morning, 3 family members & I met at this "Strawberry Hill" location. It was a first time visit for all of us to a "Pannekoek House". We were promptly seated & greeted in this bright & friendly decorated restaurant with fresh flowers on the tables. I pointed out 2 large clocks on a wall: one indicated the time locally, ("Surrey"), and the other the time in Amsterdam. Our minds made a transcontinental shift from early morning 'here' to early evening 'there'.
It took us a long time to place our order because we had trouble chosing from the HUGE selection of items on it. My husband tried a "Simple Simon" burger, my Mother a "Spinach Bene", my sister "The Windmill" (which she devoured in minutes), and I had a "Hash" pannekoek. I could not eat all of my 'pannekoek' and I reheated it hours later at home. I still found it to be delicious. We had a lot of fun sharing an order of "Bitter Ballen" too.
We all think this restaurant is a great option for breakfast.
Ask the kids where they want to go eat and they always say de dutch. It's cheery and bright and clean. Prices are reasonable and there is something for everyone. pannekoeks, burgers, sandwiches, salads and deserts too.
My only complaint is the early closing, we would be there more often if only they were open past 4pm
I frequent De Dutch in Strawberry Hill at least once a month and what I love about it is that you always know what you're getting... the pannekoeks are great, the omelettes are awesome, the presentation of fruit on the side is really cool, etc. I usually only go here as a breakfast place but occasionally we go in the afternoon or in the evening. I prefer the breakfast menu but some of the other non-breakfast meals look pretty good. I think consistency is a major selling point of the De Dutch restaurants and this one is no different.. when we go in we know what to expect.. great food, at decent prices with decent service. Good enough for me!
I have been to this restaurant several times. Their pannekoeks are incredible i usually get the strawberrys and whipped cream or the three berrys. the portions are very big and you will be full after a omlette meal...Unlike other de-dutch's they serve fresh fruit with your breakfast whereas some give salads. The only downfall is that their orange juice is really expensive.
