Located in Guildford Town Centre, Surrey, just down from Starbucks.
A popular, retro-styled Vancouver-based retail bakery, Cupcakes specializes in whimsical cupcakes, cakes and other nostalgic baked goods made fresh daily. Co-founded by best friends Heather White and Lori Joyce in 2002, Cupcakes bakes their products from scratch and use preservative-free, basic ingredients, offering customers fresh batches of yummy goodness daily.
I have been to other Cupcakes locations and this one simply doesn't measure up. I went on the first day that the store opened up and it was packed! Service was quick but efficient, the older lady briskly served me the cupcake of my choice and immediately moved onto the next customer, a little rude which I attributed to the store being so busy, so I brushed it off, and the young long haired blonde at the till was very bright and smiley which made up for it (although unfortunately I've not ever seen her there since). The cupcake was okay, a tad dry, but quite well presented. This was my first impression.
I've been back 3/4 times since and each time I've been disappointed. The store has been open for nearly a year and yet I still have the same letdowns I experience on my first visit. Either the service has been lacking, with the girl looking bored or having little interest; or the cupcake itself has not been on par, too dry or a little bland. They are always presented quite beautifully however. I am a great lover of the Cupcakes brand, and whenever I am at a another location, I stop in and am quite pleased with the product and the service. But I'm afraid the Guildford location just doesn't meet the standards, so I think I will skip this one from now on.
