Not far from Fraser Downs racetrack, in a fairly-new building. The Other Half and I were in Cloverdale doing some Christmas shopping and saw the pub sign, so we stopped in for lunch.
Very nice open room, lots of TV screens, comfortable chairs, quite clean. Bathrooms are very trendy, also clean.
Friendly staff took our drink orders and food orders promptly. The OH ordered a bowl of Tex-Mex Chili with garlic toast, I ordered steak (rare) sandwich with a cup of clam chowder. I had intended the cup of chowder to replace the fries, but got both and got charged for both. As I was hungry, I did not object, but there was definitely a miscommunication with the server.
Food was OK, typical pub/bar style. We received our orders quickly, and the food was fresh and hot. Good fries, standard chowder. The chili was substantial, but not very spicy. Steak arrived closer to medium than to rare, but was certainly edible.
We would go back if in the area...
I was in this pub recently to see a band with a few friends. We got there early and thought we would have some food before hand. The waitress was friendly and took our order. The food however was cold and in one instance the chicken was raw. The Manager came over (the brooding guy who sits at the bar drinking and eating) we complained and he just went "huh" and went back to what he was doing. Aside from that the prices were ok. As far as the ambience, the decore was kind of flat and generic. The Band started up and unfortunately was too loud that you couldn't talk in any part of the pub.
Save yourselves the bother and go to Rustys.
As the title says, I have reviewed this place not too long ago and then it was great. I went back the other day to have another wonderful experience.....and no. Apparently, there is another owner..another chef...so i gave it another whirl..hoping not much had changed. Well, the food ...i think it was food...over priced crap. The new owner, an angry looking man who doesn't do all too much bit sit and watch others work. The only saving grace we had was our server, nadine (i hope i remembered her name)..was nice and very helpful when it came to all of our questions. Very professional indeed...even when I asked her bluntly about the sudden change of owners and chef..she kept her composure and never bad mouthed her "boss"..It is too bad the chef is gone, that guy really seemed to have a love or passion for the food...now it just seems like slapping it on a plate...too bad I guess if we are in cloverdale again, rustys will be our bar of choice.
Went there the other day just out for some drinks and appies with some friends. The food was good but the service sucked. Our waitress this small young brunette early 20's if even that too immature to be serving us. Very unprofessional, and immature. She took her sweet time coming over to our table to ask us for our drink order or to bring us any menus.
There was a Dj playing music but it seemed like he was more interested in the girls and talking to the manager which every time we go there is always sitting around at the bar looking all mean not a friendly bunch of people there at all. The atmosphere is quite humorous, boring, dull and very unprofessional looking, quite comical including the house Dj. The music was ok but he didn't seem like he wanted to be there he was all over the place except where he was suppose to be at the DJ booth, and in and out with the waitress outside.
The waitresses and even the bartender what an embarasement the bartender talks so loud like she wants everybody to know she's there and about her personal life and thinks she owns the place. The name change and new menu ain't gonna happen till you clean house. All I know is that I won't be going back anytime soon. And get some bands in there. That Dj is too unprofessional never at his booth. And the food is overpriced, now I understand why it's always so empty. It's like playing in a playground.
We love going out and having a good time. We check out this sight all the time and saw a number of negative reviews about this pub. Me and the mrs. Decided to check it out for a lark... If the place was as awful as everyone says then we could get a pretty good laugh. We arrived there and when we walked in we had a friendly greeting from the staff. The monk at the door was super freaky but the dragon was amazing. The server followed us to our table with menus and a drink menu (didn't expect that). She was very young but incredibly friendly and efficient while informing us if the specials. $2.50 highballs??? You just can't find that anywhere. She took our drink order and when she returned she took our food order. I ordered the rib and chicken combo while my wife had the steak special (medium)... Our food arrived between ten and fifteen minutes from when we ordered it. It was piping hot straight from the kitchen even though the server had about eight other tables to tend to. I didn't think the food was overpriced compared to the portions and when you have drink specials like that... Who cares. Our server was very attentive... The dj (although loud) was very friendly and upbeat. We loved the idea of playing videos along with the music and his music selection was awesome. He wasn't at the booth the whole time but he was walking around to all the customers asking for requests. We did notice the angry man at the bar... He was certainly brooding, but when we went outside for a smoke, he was out there and asked us how are service was... We had a great conversation with him and he's very professional and humorous. The dark haired bartender was loud at times... But certainly not offensive... She was chatting up her customers and making sure everyone was doing they're job... All in all we had a great experience and will return often.
we rarely go out to eat..but felt like a night out..and heard there was a new owner..so decided to stop in and have a bite..and a few drinks with some friends..
the place was really nice..fairly clean..great big tv screens..
but the atmosphere..was very boring..and dull..
the owner is not very people friendly..doesn't smile..and just sits there..when we arrived..nobody made any attempt to acknowledge that we were there..and waited about 10 miniuts..before anyone came to ask for drink orders..and when the server finally came..she only brought one menu for 5 people...
the kitchen staff..seems to know their stuff,,but the food wasn't anything special..same fare everywhere..the usual stuff..i had nachos and chicken wings..and a bowl of chowder..the chowder was quite nice actually..
my boyfriend had a burger..and it was a bit greasy..but other than that..very tasty..but the server didin't offer any ketchup...and just dropped the food and left right away..and didnt come bak until we were pretty much finished our food..she seemed very very young to be doing that job...was she even of age???
there was a band playing that evening..but we didnt know.cause it wasn't advertised at all..but it was alright..because they were pretty good..a little loud..but that blond lady sure can sing.
all in all..if the owner was more friendly..the patrons would feel more welcome..the servers seem to rush you..and there is no professionalism..we will not be going back there...and it's too bad,..i sure do wish i could remember the name of that band..but i wont go in there even to ask them that,,he might bite our heads off..he is THAT mean looking.
oh yeah..my friend had a caesar salad..and the croutouns were so hard..she couldn't bite down on them..
i could go on forever about this place..
bottom line..don't waste your money or time...you will be dissappointed...
My husband and I decided to try this place out in December 2008 as we live close by. We found a table and sat down, only to have a server inform us that the table was reserved. There was no sign on the table indicating this, but no biggie. She told us the place was full and we would have to go sit in the "family section." She was not very friendly about it. We went to the family section where it appeared that a kid's birthday party was taking place - not exactly the adult scene we were looking for. It was a little like being at the playroom at McDonalds. Still, we were going to give it a chance. We sat for 10 minutes and when no one had come to take our order or even acknowledged us we left and went to another pub. We won't be back. It's their loss I guess, as we are always friendly, order food and several drinks, and leave good tips.
