It's too bad the owner doesn't get rid of the rude, angry Asian woman who takes your money when you go to pick up your order. She is the reason I won't order/go there any more.
Fortunately for Chili Pepper House, my husband is much more forgiving and patient with rude ignorant people, so he still orders and picks up from there, but when he orders he requests to talk to the owner directly.
The food is pretty good, probably some of the best asian around this area.
Rarely see people eating inside the restaurant, the place is void of any ambience.
So, to sum it up , good food, owner is a nice guy, employee sucks, no ambience, and also parking is a real hassle, you have to park in the back which is quite dark and scary and walk around to the front past Money Mart and along 96th Ave.
this is the spot to be. Went there for an early dinner, they opened at 4 and we were the first ones there. The waiter was an older very kind gentle man, he was so friendly any question we had he was more than happy to answer. We ordered vegetarian spring rolls, manchurian vegetarian chow mein and buddha's vegetable delight with tofu. Spring rolls were very yummy, a bit more filling would have been nice, they were served with a small amount of marinated salad of some sort (very yummy, could have eaten more). The chow mein was absolutely delicious! a tiny bit on the greasy side but maybe that is how its supposed to be, but the flavour...wow! Bhudda's delight was also quite yummy, however I wish there was more tofu and it was very saucy, next time I will order some rice to serve it over, For desert we had deep fried banana with vanilla ice cream, that was a perfect ending to a great meal! The service was a bit slow in the end as the old fella had another full table to serve and a lot of take out orders he was putting together. Spoke to the owner and he is a friendly jolly fellow. The decor took me back to what felt like going out for dinner with my folks in the late 70's, especially the mirrors on the ceiling and the booths, I liked it but then i'm nostalgic and really your going for the food and as long as the place is clean it really doesn't matter. Will definitely be going back.
If you like spicy chinese/indian food, then you'll like this place. I have eaten in on several occasions and order out frequently. The regular chinese food menu items are, for the most part, typical take-out fare... but if you get the items with the chili peppers next to them, you're in for a treat! My fiancee can't eat more than a bite of their house chili chicken. The slightly spicy thick manchurian chicken chow mein is also amazing; it has a flavour that its local competitors just can't beat. Albeit, on occasion, it does seem a bit too greasy.
All in all, if you like spicy chinese/indian food, then it's a must try.
I ordered takeout from here twice. Was not impressed the first time so I ordered again recently thinking maybe they have had an off night. Not so. Their food is very coarse comparing to the others in the Surry Delta area. The chow mein comes with either thick Shanghai noodle or the thin regular noodles. The thick noodle just does not suit this style of food/cooking. The sauce on the cantonese chow mein which is made with the thin noodles was a sloppy mess. The manchurian vegetable was a few giant balls of finely chopped up vegetable mush. All the other items were nothing memorible. This is the first time that I did not care for the food from an Indian Chinese restaurant. I won't be back.
This is cleaner place with better taste in food the the owner Edward lied to all his customers about closing the place down which in fact he sold the place to the chef in mid sept and continued telling customers that he is closing the place down and moving to Langley..to me Edward sounds like a bad business men when he really sold the place..Shame On You Edward....
went there last Friday for dinner with couple friends.it took so long for the waiter to take our order..the food took even longer.the food was okay, nothing great.. we expected better food and service.the restaurant was recommended by a friend. but there was nothing great about it.i have been to other Indian Chinese restaurant, and had amazing food and definitely better service. ordered chili beef, chow mien and Manchurian chicken. i m never gonna recommend anybody to go there.
