Bubble Tea in Central City Mall.
I was in Surrey exploring the big mall when I spotted the BO and decided to get some BBT. They advertise $2.50 BBT, but a quick look at the menu and a query to the counter person revealed that they do not sell any of the $2.50 brew. Okay I thought, I will get some coconut milk tea. It was a rip off at $3.75 w/o pearls, but I was thirsty and Surrey has few choices for BBT. It tasted okay but it was loaded with way too much ice, so points off.
Service was acceptable, the place was nice and new, and the whole mall looked clean, but I couldn't stop thinking how I was fleeced by these guys. As I was leaving the mall I noticed the nearby supermarket with the letters T&T in their name had BBT for less money anyway...
I won't be back.
This place does have deceptive pricing they have a huge ad for the non-existant $2.50 bbt and the bubble tea is nothing to rave about. I do like the option of getting ice cream in the bubble tea though as they also serve ice cream.
Now T&T always clears out their BBT for a $1 in the evenings, normally T&T charges about $2.5.
Also the orange julius at surrey central has a daily after 4pm promotion for half priced premium drinks and fresh juices, which means each drink is $2.50 or less.
Even with all this competition the Big Orange BBT place is still too pricey for a place that you can't even sit down to drink your BBT at.
I'm kind of a hypocrite because I have been coming to this place for years. But I think that this place doesn't look too clean nor fresh. I always get their Japanese Green Milk Tea, which is always really powdery. Their staff always seem kinda confused..always have to check the recipe! Sometimes when I ask for something, they didn't even know it's on the menu .. Service is not bad though. Nice people. But they can be a little slow in making drinks. And I only came here because I had a bubble tea addiction and this was the closest one to school haha.
Even though it's a bit expensive, I find that this place has the best taro milkshake. It just tastes different... in a good way. Maybe it's the ice cream they put in there!!! I've tried other things there and some things are just weird... like the orange bubble tea. It tastes like slushed up Sunny D with pearls. The regular milk tea is ok.. not memorable, not worth it. Way better service than T&T though. I had to wait 5-10 mins in front of the T&T bubble tea place while the old Chinese ladies ignored me!!!!!! I had to scream HELLO at them to get their attention. It was ridiculous. So I definitely recommend Big Orange over T&T. And Orange Julius is disgusting to begin with. -__-
However, if you have money, I suggest Blenz near SFU campus instead.
