This used to be a Taco del Mar, which is why even though it is in a strip mall it has a beach-front hut vibe going on. The kitchen is open-concept and you can see them cooking the food in front of you!
Something unique they offer here are fish pakora's, these are morsels of juicy freshly fried fish in a light batter, they will also season it, but the seasoning is very salty. They also offer Indian-style fish & chips complete with tamarind chutney to dip the fries in. They also give tartar sauce although this place's food isn't exactly Fusion it's more Indian.
I tried their lunch specials and they are reasonably priced at $7 with a good portion.
The fish wrap was good, it was full of fish. It was wrapped in a tortilla, next time I will ask for it to be wrapped in a roti. I liked the light fish soup it came with, it wasn't spicy but it had hints of cilantro, and was full of veggies and was welcoming on a cold day.
For vegetarians they offer a chickpea dish, with a freshly cooked potato partha (basically a stuffed naan) and a sweet lassi for only $5!
The butter chicken was good, next time I will have the naan without butter because they layer the butter on. The simple plain basmati rice served was perfectly cooked as well.
All of their lunch specials include a green salad, I didn't like the Italian dressing on top next time I will ask for it on the side.
They also include chutneys such as fresh mint chutney but you do have to ask for it.
This place is great, as all of their food is freshly prepared. The servers are friendly and don't charge you extra for chutney etc. which is what most of the restaurants in Surrey do. It's in the middle of a mostly industrial area in Surrey but I do hope more people discover it. The prices are excellent especially for lunch, dinnertime prices are higher understandably but the portions are good!
I'm not quite sure why the restaurant has Bengali in the name, the people running it are Punjabi, but regardless the food is good here.
I been their 2 times, once when they were just opened. Ordered Bengali Fish Curry, it was good not great... nothing special or different from other types of Fish curries. Also ordered Tandoori Chicken, this was surprise. It end up been the best tandoori chicken that I have tasted so far, it is juicy. But when I went back 2nd time it was good, less juicy as it got so busy I had to wait over 1 hr even after I placed the order over the phone ahead of my visit. Very clean cooking, they cook in front of you. I noticed word of mouth made them really busy place now, if you want really good food, try ordering when they are less busy with orders like weekdays or during daytime. Try calling at least 1-2 hrs ahead & let them know you will pickup 1-2 hrs later so they don't rush your order & cook slowly. Price of some dishes are reasonable, others are expensive.
I hope if someone from Bengali Fish & Curry team is reading this, please mention your quality of Tandoori Chicken as you did when you guys opened up. Keep it juicy & well marinated so we keep coming back for more.
