My husband and I regularly visit Al Manara, literally every week. Each time we come we usually buy the same thing, which is chicken shawarma. Unless tastebuds crave something else. The shawarmas are perfectly made and are so delish, you can't help but want more. You can definately remember the taste.

After going to a number of "middle eastern" restaurants, Al Manara by far surpasses other restaurants in the authenticity of traditional middle eastern food. From everything like shawarmas to warag 3inab to kabsa, it is exceptionally made and incredibly delicious.

I was happy to stumble upon this place since my husband and I are middle eastern, growing up eating traditional food, we were starting to have withdrawal symptoms haha. So this place definately fulfills our addiction.

It's a fairly new restaurant, I'd say about a year or so old, we've become good friends with the owner who is ofcourse middle eastern himself. He cooks and prepares the food himself. And is always worthy of a good tip!

It is the place to go for good flavourful meals or a tasty snack. The best place for Lebanese food.

Shawarma Not Worth the Stop

I noticed this place open up about a year or so ago and decided to give it a try since I was craving some shawarma. The first time I came by, it was a sunday and it was closed. So I tried again on saturday the next week and it was open.

It has a very small seating area. Maybe one or two tables, along with a foosball table in the corner. It kind of has a mom & pop Italian cafe kind of look. The store is long and narrow with a counter up ahead with the register, and an open kitchen with fridge and everything else behind it. We were the only ones in there when we got in, and it was dead quiet. It seems bare and empty inside, even though there are some decorative pieces on the wall. The owner (I'm assuming) was sitting in a chair way in the back of the kitchen and got up when he noticed us. He seemed almost angry that we came in to his restaurant. He appeared to have a black eye, so maybe that was why. It being our first time there, we tried to quickly scan the menu board, and decided to get the safe chicken shawarma. It seemed like he didn't even have food to give out. Everything seemed like it was turned off and he went to get the meat from some tin container in the back. He really seemed angry that we were making him work. Even the register was turned off and he had to turn it on with a key. The price on the window and board said it should of been $5 but it was $7 something each for the wraps when he rang it up. He didn't even ask or let us know he was going to give us the bigger wrap. And no thank you's or good byes from him either.

The wrap itself was not a good experience also. It's not large, and it was filled with very few varieties of veggies and they skimp out on filling too. No real sauce or flavour and the chicken was old. Who knows when it was cooked since the meat spit wasn't even on and it looked like no meat was cooked at all that day.

I'd stick to the middle eastern places in Vancouver. I don't think good ones exist in Surrey.
