Morgan Creek is one of the premier golf courses in the lower mainland. It also has some of the best views overlooking the course, a great patio in the summer, and good food.
I prefer the lounge area to the dining room.It is a small room, not kid friendly, with big fireplace, and several large screen tv's, fortunately muted during the evening. We try and gather here at Xmas for our annual glass of wine in front of the fire. Being a wine bar, it has a good selection.
The lunch menu is fairly limited but dinner offers the full range of appy's, starters, and entrees. Prices range from high teens for the "small plates" to above $30 for the mains, like their steak. On the evening we last visited, we both enjoyed salads, one the asian and the other their house greens with chicken breast on the side. The asian came with a mild jalopena ranch dressing.
The tab was $45 incl gratuity, no liquor. Not inexpensive but a nice setting and far more intimate than the Cactus Club where we were originally headed.
Since the new owners the place has gone down the tube.
For last two days they havehad no heat and the temperature in this
place has been below frezzing. In summer the air condition is always out of order.
The place has taken a bad rap because of its owner who dont pay bills and wages.
Baliffs have been seen frequently too !
I've eaten here several times, however, one night they had closed at 7pm because "it wasn't busy". I had the same waitress that closed early serve me today. Once I got my food, that was the last I saw of her. She sat at the staff booth near by and didn't even get up when I wanted to pay for my meal. The mushrooms for the omelet were straight out of a can. Barely cooked and very soggy. This was definately my last meal here, even though I stay at the hotel attached to the restaurant. No tip for YOU. The other waiters are quite good.
Inian food is subpar to other I have had. Nothing special, but nothing that bad either. Service is ok. Par for the course.
Delivery for their pizza however was a gong show.
First took FOUR times to get the woman answering the phone to get the address right, she kept yelling "WHAT?" in my ear. Should have hung up here. Pizza took an hour and 15 to arrive, not cool, pizza was however. So now cold pizza very hungry, and low and behold they forgot the pineapple on a Hawaiian, sort of turns the Hawaiian into a ham pizza. Pretty disappointing. Didn't bother to call and complain, just wont frequent here again.
If there is any establishment anywhere that would like to improve its customer relations or learn how to put on a fresh face for the public, all they need do is visit the Hannam Market in Surrey. Pleasant is an understatement. Eager to please would better describe their approach to one entering the store. I'm just an Alberta redneck (and the only white guy in the place) but they couldn't do enough for me. I had texted my wife (who is Asian) if she'd like anyhting from this very special store. She asked me to pick her up an item (which was unknown to me) and they couldn't do enough to help me.
Absolutely fantastic people and service.
Even if you're just sightseeing, make sure to take in the Hannam.
I heard about this place through some friends, who affectionately call the man who runs the place the "sandwich nazi" (like the soup nazi from Seinfeld). We almost missed the place, it's a little hole in the wall and at first glance seems a little dumpy. It's also fairly out of the way, but totally worth it.
The guy behind the counter is the most charismatic person I have ever met. If you don't have a good sense of humor this place is not for you, if you do, you'll love it. He's a bit crude, and will make a few jokes at your expense. But you can also tell he has a big heart and really is a people person. The tip jar had a picture of himself in ladies underwear, and my personal favorite was the picture of himself affectionately holding deli meat while laying in the grass that was up on the wall.
I told him what I wanted, he asked if he could make me what he wanted to make me. I obliged because I could tell he knew what he was doing. I told him I didn't like cheese and he offered me a piece to try just in case. Not the kind of impersonal service you would receive at a place like subway or quiznos, that's for sure!
The sandwiches were massive, with an unbelievable amount of meat. For the cost of the sandwich ($7.50) you couldn't even buy that much meat at your local grocery store. It's fresh, it's delicious. There's also tons of imported foods that you can buy there, some interesting candies and chocolate etc.
The sandwich was so big that I could only eat half, the other half I had for dinner. If you don't have a big appetite I suggest bringing a friend to share with.
Worth the experience and the food! The hours are a bit weird (he told us he was closing at 3 that day) so maybe call ahead if you're making the trip.
I went with my wife today to have a sushi..we go usually to Tenguko Sushi near Guildford and want to try something different, finally we were able to figure out Nagoya sushi..Bigger portions, clean, excellent service, the dinner set is $12 and it's definitely worth trying. The sashimi was fresh and big chunks. They offer complimentary meso soup too which was tasty.Ambiance is just okay, we cannot expect better than that for that price, but food was absolutely good. Worth trying..
As we are sushi lovers and visit frequently to Tenguko which is a bit expensive, we found out an alternative.
If you find yourself cruising along #10 on a weekday morning or afternoon, you owe it to yourself to stop in The soups and stews are particularly good. Most items made completely from scratch, including brining and roasting the sandwich meats. The prices on some items can seem a bit high compared to other sandwich stops or diners, but the ingredients are very high quality, the portions are quite large and the food is put together with care. If you're trying to save money, go for the special.
A good restaurant gone to the dogs. It used to be a much more popular place with good food, but in recent times it has definitely gone downhill. Firstly, whether you are eating from the buffet or getting taking out, you'll most likely only find a few tiny pieces of meat swimming in sauce. They must be counting each individual cold-cut vegetable and sauce in their "35 item buffet," otherwise there is no way there is 35 items. I would say the buffet is 75% various cold veggies (peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, etc.) The staff hover over you, not in a helpful way, but as if to make your uncomfortable enough not to take too much of any item. On out last family visit, we did not get any water for the entire meal, until we asked for it at the end (only to have the server treat it like an inconvenience). Then we observed a staff member climbing all over the seats near the windows (with shoes) to pull down the blinds.
It's no surprise that they have very little business (the parking lot is consistently empty, even during lunch and dinner hours -on more than one occasion, we've mistaken it for closed); the food is not worth the money, and the customer service is absolutely awful. Save your money and go elsewhere. We're never going back.
Just got back from dinner here and not impressed.I have been eating here for years and it now has been going downhill fast ..I ordered the baby back ribs and they were undercooked and very tough !!Figured couldn't go wrong with dessert but they only have cake...Ordered one at $5,25 (which our menu stated and when we got the bill it was $6.25..They said that menu was missed it was the old price ..C'mom a little pricey for a not so good piece of cake ...They would not drop the $1.00 off our cake which our menu stated ..Very poor customer service with just ok food !!
My boyfriend and I love this restaurant and eat in and take out from Kim Chi Palace at least once per week. The prices are competitive with other restaurants in the area, but being that I have been to most of them I can say that this restaurant has the best quality. Everything is always very fresh and well presented. They also have a great variety of items, and also offer Korean menu items.
Don't let the outside appearance fool you. It may be an old run down looking building, but it has been nicely renovated inside and has a great ambiance. The service is great as it is a nice family run restaurant. On several occasions, when dining later close to their closing time, we are given extras. Also, there is usually a surprise roll included in our take out orders.
Most Recommended items: Crispy Roll (Spicy) and Port Hardy Roll(Sweet) - both amazing rolls, more expensive but much larger than normal maki rolls so definitely worth it.
I have had lunch here 3 times and have been very impressed. It is run by sisters, partners and a nephew with a Greek influence. The actual soup, sandwich and salads on offer seem to be more of a Mediterranean mix with considerable California inspiration. They are very friendly and greet all very warmly. The Roast Beef with horseradish sauce on Chibatta bread was 100% excellent. Flavour filled beef sliced just right. It was topped with three types of vegetables (as I recall) and not the usual lettuce and tomato slice. It was served with celery sticks and a Greek sauce on the side. They have some homemade desserts like cookies and muffin - a limited choice but high quality.
On another day I had a sliced smoked turkey Panini - I don’t know the cheese used but the taste combination was wonderful.
Nicely decorated inside the shop and cafe features some unusual gourmet items mixed in with same products all good deli food stores offer. They have about 8 indoor table and several outdoor seats. They do more outdoor seating in summer.
The coffee didn't appeal to me at all. I commented yesterday on how good the food was (January 14th 2012) and they said others had commented. So they are installing a proper espresso machine. I will certainly keep coming back.
They do dinners once night aweek for seniors and it seems necessary to book.
When bread and deserts are this good people find out even if the location is obscure. This family owned business is behind bushes and underneath a little strip mall on the corner of Crescent Beach Rd and 128th St. They do a large range of breads and rolls with organice locally ground grains. The colors shapes and textures are sometimes unusual only because the offer local milled and ground grains. Traditonal bacqettes wer crisps and seemed very authentic. The brioche was superb. The have meat tarts that use all spice or some such to give a distinct tang. I have tried about 7 itmes in 3 visits and have not been disappointed yet.
The servicde counter and cash register postion is terrible- they couldn't have positioned it in a worse spot. The serviuce is friendly but very slow.
The aromas and very visible kitchen areas mean it is not only transparent but its alluring.
Not sure what Hirohishiro is talking about. A Taste of Punjab doesn't even offer Dosa's, what a way to give a bad review on the wrong restaurant.
We have been going to this restaurant since they first opened, can honestly say I have never had a bad meal or take out order from here, food is very consistently delicious! Nice size portions and good price for what you get. Service is slow at times but then that doesn't bother me as I know I'm going to enjoy my food.
We have dined at Ming Shing many times.
Unfortunately the owners seem to have lost their passion.
Wontons had a soury old taste and the soup was greasy tasting and without flavour.
Sweet and sour pork was full of fat and chewy. One of the pieces tasted old to say the least.
The other dishes where alright.
I really like it there and hope they will get a fresh grip on how to run a successful restaurant.
I am a former head chef and have been at this restaurant before and after it has changed hands.
It has it's challenges but was absolutely decent until the new owners arrived.
Why do Asian people try to run a Mexican restaurant in Canada anyway?! There are so many other options.
And here is the ugly truth:
- Food not up to standarts.
- Plates are dirty and not checked by the staff or the owners. Disgusting!
- Doug shells are stored on the oven under the kitchen ventilation system.
- They should be stored in a dry, cool and dark place, away from grease, dirt and contamination.
- The cook doesn't know the menu. Items are missing and the food is burned, dry, or not even hot.
- Cleanliness is not one of the priorities of this establishment. I have seen service staff packing leftovers with bare hands that were not washed after handling money.
The owners aren't even there most of the time to check on quality and seem to run the restaurant more as a hobby than a business. The menu is still the old one from the previous owners with things blacked out and it looks ridiculous this way.
The restaurant has clearly great potential but is run very poorly.
A shame for such a great spot to be!
That's my first impression, meh. I've been to couple Thai restaurants, but this one has the most 'basic' taste to all. What I mean by that is, Thai food is usually served with rich taste, whether it is spice or sweet. Sticky Rice does not have that side to their dishes. It's good for first timers to Thai food, but if you know a thing or two about Thai food, I suggest another place.
ps. Please do not get the Thai Ice Tea. It is NOT GOOD.
Quality of the food is not bad, as the freshness of food is kept well. The restaurant is fairly small and kept inside, thus making the restaurant a nice place to have a small, quiet dinner with someone or with a small party. All the special rolls are very good.
I understand all bubbletea places will be loud, but this one is a mess. I suggest a take-out. And remember, it is owned by Chinese, thus you will need to bring cash!
ps. They will not allow you to play any games inside, such as cards or anything along that line.
Please do not be tricked. This place is not what it used to be. With the previous owner, this place was easily one of the best in town, but with the new owner, the place is an absolute crap. Not only the service is crap, the food itself is a mess. The sushi chef is unclean and indifferent about the food.
If you absolutely need sushi and you cannot leave the Guildford area, go to another one right across the street.
