Come for the beer

After being at Brohm Lake just past Squamish, we decided a burger and beer was in order so we headed over to Howe Sound Brew Pub. I have tried several of their beers and will often buy the 1 litre bottles you see floating around the liquor stores. They have a nice variety of Howe Sound beers on tap: I tried the pilsner and a hemp ale. To go with the beer, I kept it simple and had a Howe Sound burger which was pretty good. It had a giant, juicy patty and the bun was toasted and crispy. Overall I enjoyed sitting on the patio, drinking great beer and eating decent food. I will return when I am in the area.

Pretty Good Western Style Chinese Food

I like my authentic traditional Chinese food, but in Squamish you will not find anything close to what Vancouver/Richmond has. I had my fare share of Western Style Chinese meals as a kid so to me that was fun food, like MacDonalds. Western/Chinese food is what you'll get in Squamish and Lotus Garden makes it very well. The restaurant is clean but old. Looks like 1970's decor with a mix of 1980's furniture. We ordered the lemon chicken, sweet & sour pork, deep fried prawns which were crispy even when it was at room temperature. The sauces tasted exactly as they should and flavours are well balanced. Sometimes restaurants will give you a sauce that is either too sweet or too sour (usually too sour), but Lotus Gardens makes it just right. We ordered the Beef and Broccoli, chow mein which were good, but not exceptional. For about $10.00 to $12.00 per plate you will get fair size portions. 3 to 4 dishes will feed 4 adults. Overall the food at Lotus Garden is consistent, fresh and satisfying. We ate at Lotus Garden 5 years ago and went back again for new years day and we were still happy with what we ordered. We'll be going there again.
