Mags 99 prides itself on preparing great chicken and Mexican foods using the freshest ingredients possible. The chicken and meats are always fresh, never frozen and preservative free ingredients whenever possible.
We stopped by this place on our way out of Squamish tonight. We hadn't seen it before, but love Mexican food so figured we would check it out. I expected a Taco Bell-like experience. Wow, were we in for a surprise! There was only one customer leaving the restaurant when we went in. We saw four staff people---3 in the kitchen and one up front. It took less than 5 minutes for our order.
The food: Was delicious! I had a taco with Mexican rotisserie chicken. The chicken tasted juicy, fresh, and they were very generous with the portion--my two soft tacos couldn't handle the amount of food I had and I was glad that I had grabbed a fork. The limeslaw and the watermelon-habanero sauce are kicking!
My friend got the special which was 3 pulled pork tacos with fries and a drink--lots of food! The pulled pork was yummy and we were both super satisfied.
I will be going there when I'm next in Squamish and will recommend friends check it out, too!
I have driven past this building and was curious about the new ownership and opening of what used to be a KFC/Taco Bell. I must admit I was hesitant to try this because I don't like KFC or Taco Bell at all. That being said, I am very happy I decided to give it a try!!
The building is old but clean and recently spruced up. The kitchen looks clean and the kitchen staff look competent and enthusiastic.
The service is slow, so don't expect to be in and out in 5 minutes unless you get lucky. It is understandable because they just opened a week or so ago, though.
After a look over the menu we decided to just try the chicken. When it arrived it was hot and very fresh. It was appropriately greasy, perfectly seasoned and not over-salted. You can taste the subtle spices, the sage especially. The meat was moist and the skin/breading was crispy.
Overall we will be back for sure! I had a look at the other items as they were ordered by other guests and I look forward to sampling more of their menu.
Grabbed a red chili beef burrito on my way home. Got it home, devoured it. It was still good and hot and delicious. It was real tender slow-cooked beef, not ground. Rice was good and it had black beans which I prefer to pinto. Tortilla was soft and nicely grilled, veggies and sauces were great.
I'll return. I'll probably try another meat next time just to see what else the chef can do. Might be hard to beat the red chili beef though.
I hear their chicken is good too, but I have't tried it yet.
Stopped in here on the way down from Whistler very busy inside due to it being new I assume. Food wasn't any better than Taco Bell and got sick from it (hence the one star). I guess that makes it authentic mexican food. Service was fine but looked a little under staffed. Never again for me. Hopefully on there parts it's just growing pains and they shape up.
