Went for a family lunch there today and was so disappointed. Was prepared to love the place, the ambiance is stellar, with lovely views of the golf course. Would have been willing to overlook the somewhat bland food and unimaginative menu, but the service was the worse I have had in a long, long time. Our drink orders were taken promptly, but after at least hour a hour, no one offered to refill our coffees. Once we were able to hunt down a server, she refilled three of our coffees but left out one person. We were finally able to get another wait person's attention and she brought the coffee pot around again. Then we had to wait at least one hour for our food. When we enquired why it was taking so long, the server said the kitchen was backed up. Fair enough, but other tables that arrived after us received their food way before ours came. Was the food came, it was fairly disappointing. Because the server had told me that the fish and chips had huge pieces of fish, I only ordered one piece. When the I saw the tiny piece of fish they gave me, I knew it wasn't going to be enough, especially since I had substituted the chips for salad. I ended up having to order another piece of fish, and given that they had orginally misled me about the size of the fish, I would have thought that they would have been able to fry up another piece fairly quickly. Wrong again, the "extra" fish arrived after the rest of our party had finished eating. Anyway, would have loved to had a good experience here, but the inattentiveness of the service totally spoilt it for me. Will not return!
It was a blazing hot Sunday in Steveston last weekend packed with people and we all had a hunger for fish and chips. All of the restaurants by the water seemed to be either full or running out of fish and chips, at least according to a stressed looking girl at one place we stopped by. Forget about Pajo's, the line-up there was estimated at about 35 minutes just to place an order.
We weren't to be denied our fish and chips and decided to head deeper into town. We spotted The Buck an Ear from afar and after reading over the menu decided this was the place we would try, plus they had a number of spots on their patio.
Our drink order was taken almost immediately and menus presented. My two dining partners didn't look over the menu long as they knew it was fish and chips they wanted. I , on the other hand decided to go for the halibut burger, priced very reasonably, I thought.
The wait wasn't long. What arrived as fish and chips was something Captain Highliner would stick up his nose at. Two fair sized pieces of fish that looked like they were previously frozen. One of my dining partners let me sample this disaster. Not your typical fish and chips and not in a good way. Moist, flaky, flavourful, those words do not describe this fish. More like dry, dry and tasteless and oh yeah, did I mention dry? Just pathetic. The chef should be embarrassed. Thank god for fresh lemon and a ton of vinegar.
My halibut burger consisted of two small bits of fish served on what seemed like a near stale bun. The chips tasted like they were frozen at one point and as well on the dry side. The gravy tasted like it's put together by adding water to a powder fresh from a box purchased at the grocery store.
One thing they do well here and really should stick to is beer. A great selection served cold in a real pint glass.
I live in this neighbourhood so I had several experiences visiting the KFC at Lansdowne food court. Never was impressed by the flat soft drinks and over greased dry chicken wings down there. There isn't many options in Lansdowne food court so I still go to the KFC once a while.
This time I visited them and I felt the rip off problem goten worse! I got a Zinger with 2 Chickens and salad on top of the burger and fries combo for takeout. After I got home this time, I was shocked at the size of the chicken wings, they are 1/4 the size of the regular KFC chickens, it seemed like a substitute of non authentic KFC chickens. The salad this time is just a bit over 1/2 full! Usually salads are topped full I have never seen something like this! They were even too cheap to put napkins and a fork in my to go order!
The forever flat soft drinks! Just can't stand the poor business practices and ripping people off! If any one going to Lansdowne KFC, watch out for ripe offs! I experienced this multiple times at this location knowing its this stores habit. There were times they charged me wrong with wrong combos and gave me something different and cheaper value in my takeout orders!
I actually made an account just for this place. The food is okay but the service is TERRIBLE. It's a piece of sxxx excuse my language. Their excuse is that it's busy but it didn't look busy to me. I had the worse service ever. When I asked for help I wasn't noticed for sooooo long. When the bartender finally saw me waving she gave me a nod that someone as coming over. Gave it another 5 minutes no one came. When I finally waved down the manger, I told him the bad service we got, he didn't even care and the fastest service I got was when he gave me the bill. I don't need to say anymore. Never going back. MADE THIS ACCOUNT JUST FOR THIS.
I can certainly see why this place is popular. If I was going out for drinks and appies, this is a "go to place". They have an adequate drink list and they are obviously proud of it. they also offer a courtesy bus to drive you home on weekend evenings. KUDOS!
Sadly, i was there for a meal. I ordered a buffalo chicken wrap and I asked for "no ranch dressing". Essentially it's buffalo chicken strips in a wrap with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. It was yummy enough, but the chicken was slightly dry. I got fries with it and they are batter wrapped potato fry. Common, but not my bag. All in all, pretty "meh."
My wife got their clubhouse sandwich and she liked it. she never eats all of many things, while she ate this whole thing. I had "order envy" for sure.
As for service, maybe it was because it was busy, but our server was pretty absent, although she showed much effort, the issue seemed to be she had too big of a section or the job was too much for her to handle. I think it's safe to say, she had too many tasks (organizational problem.)
All in all: good for a drink, poor for a meal. Don't go to have a conversation, but go for good company, l;ike it's intended.
I'll probably stick to something closer to my house, while I'm glad I know they're there.
We were in Richmond with a craving for pho and we happened to stumble onto Hue Cafe. Its located in a strip mall on No 3 Road and doesn't look like much on the outside, or the inside. We both ordered the beef pho soup as its called on the menu (they only have one pho option). We also got an order of spring rolls.
The soup comes with rare beef and beef balls. The broth flavour was good although the noodles might have been overcooked and were really clumped together. The size was kind of small with no option for a larger size. The spring rolls were real Vietnamese, skinny-style spring rolls although not my favourite, they were still decent.
Overall the food was fine but given the lack of pho choices on the menu at Hue cafe, I probably won't return.
I come here from time to time with friends and mostly at late at night.
They are not the best Chinese restaurant in town. But they're open 24hours!
I usually get the chowmein or the fried rice. I have to admit the service can be bad sometimes
but I can sort of understand how tiring it could be for the waitresses working graveyard shift. but the price isn't so bad.
Although their food isn't great it's nice that there is a place that open very late for late night snack.
My sister and I came here for lunch last week after shopping at the richmind centre.
I ordered tofu soup and my sister got the rib combo. After waiting for half an hour waiter brought us some side dish and it took another 30minutes for the food to arrive.. but then again the restaurant was busy and we weren't in a rush so it was okay.
Yesterday I went back to try their soy bean soup. both times food was good, price was right and service was alright.
I will come back again and try something new next time.
We finally had the chance to try this restaurant. We started by asking for, and sharing a plate of burnt ends. For those who placed reviews here about burnt ends, understand what you are ordering before you ditch them. This meat is is cut from the fatty part of the brisket, and thus there will be fat often still with the ends.
We really enjoyed them, but they were very rich. But wow the flavour.
I had the brisket plate with beans and coleslaw. The brisket was tender, with some fat not too much sauce. The beans were a bit sweet for me, but very good. I could not finish it all, so I will have some wonderful leftovers for dinner.
Rainbowcrab had the burger, she loved it, although she said she wish it had more of a grill flavour.
We will go back for sure, I want to try the ribs and rainbow wants to try the chilli hotdog.
A lot of places come & go. Leisure has not & there's a reason.
I've been here a zillion times & I've never been disappointed. Even if I have, I have forgotten about it because of how great the food & service is every other time. The ambiance is better than other bbtea places because you still feel like you're in your own little world no matter where you are seated. You don't feel like the whole room has access to you. It is often bustling & you have to wait on weekend nights, but it's worth it. The chairs are a bit sunken but they feel cozy to me.
The food is unique first of all. no one else in Vancouver has taro pearls. No one else serves hot desserts that taste as good as Leisure. Many have closed down because they cannot compete. I love getting Winter melon soup with whatever I want to put in it. It is not too sweet. Their shaved ice is the best in Vancouver as well. They don't skimp on the condensed milk or any of the other ingredients. Usually, when I have shaved ice from other places, I'm left with a whole lot of white ice. But not at Leisure, it's still got colour & ingredients. Who cares how much it costs? It tastes awesome! Their fried chicken is also really good. Sometimes I get it with fish tempura & but I don't usually enjoy having the tofu. They could make their fried tofu more fluffy & crispy fresh. I have never even had their waffles but if people rave about that, it must be great.
Service can be slow on busy nights, but they are always courteous because their staff is older. But this also makes them more professional & more caring. They don't often forget what you asked for & they come promptly when you want to order. Seriously, the service is really good & if you don't like it the first time, you should in fact come more often. I'd love to find a better Chinese dessert cafe in Vancouver that's open as often as they are.
I am a regular customer at this bakery - the bakery has decently-priced buns and pastries. After being a regular for several years, I decided to get a birthday cake from this place. I ordered a coffee mousse cake. When you order a birthday cake, you expect it to be at fresh. The cake looked fine - nothing too fancy; it is a pretty standard looking birthday cake. But then we noticed the fruits on top were starting to turn brown and there was a layer of fruit juice that oozed from the fruits on to the surface of the coffee mousse. Once we started cutting the cake, we saw that the bottom layer of the cake looked pretty dry/hard for a mousse cake. We ignored it (because we needed a birthday cake for a celebration) and went ahead to eat it. The coffee mousse was spoiled. The fruit had a very off taste to it. The sponge cake layers were so dry that they were tough. It was disgusting. We called the bakery the next morning and told them what happened. We received the worst customer service. The owner/manager said that they have been making cakes for 18 years and have never sold a spoiled cake and that it is impossible it is spoiled. We brought the cake back to the store and the owner wasn't there. They refused to give us an apology or any sort of refund.
This regular customer will never be purchasing baked goods (in this case, baked bads) there ever again.
My family and I have been customers at this restaurant for at least 7 years. Thy have pretty good quality food but their service has never been too great. Recently we went in and had ordered a gyoza as part of our meal which really wasn't that expensive during lunch time. However, we noticed that the meat inside had tasted a little funny and so we proceeded to tell the waitress. The waitress nodded and acknowledged our comment and never came back with any follow ups. When the bill came, we noticed that the gyoza was still on the bill so we contacted them once more letting them know that there was a problem. The waitress responded harshly by saying that all the other customers were fine with it and we did not tell them earlier when we had. On top of that, we overheard them making negative comments about the situation WHILE we were still sitting at our table- highly unprofessional. She brought the gyoza away and came back a few moments later with our bill with the gyoza taken off. However, her response in bringing the bill back to us was that they took it off because it seemed as if that's what we wanted but that there was nothing wrong with their food. She said that with a terrible attitude. To be honest, we really don't care about the $3 that the gyoza cost. We live a comfortable lifestyle and our feedback to them was honestly just in terms of the quality of their food which should be valuable to any company or restaurant that wants to improve. Feedback is essential in a service oriented industry. However the way she stated the situation in handing our bill back to us was absolutely inappropriate and put us at blame for the situation. Really? Your customer relations are worth way more than $3 and so are their network of friends. Stupid decision.
Having a late lunch [1:45 p.m.] no other diners in the restaurant. Pleasant greeting. Told us about their specials. Each had a glass of wine. Ordered a salad off the menue; however had to infom us that they did not have any "fresh" salmon; but they had smoked salmon - o.k. Ordered the lobster pasta. The "shrimp" sauce was tasty but only moderately warm. No bread or bread sticks or crackers. Something strange in the sauce - like a hard piece of a nut. Dinner partner had tea. Far too expensive for lunch! The Taxes were listed only as "Tax" -- did not have the break down for PST and/or GST; however, they do have a GST account number. I will not be going back very soon if ever.
Wonderful venue. Stuck away in a little corner of Richmond is this gem of a restaurant. Food was okay. I had the rib steak $28.00 medium rare and it was done to perfection. The main problem was that it seemed to be too gristley, I expect a little with any rib steak but this one had it in abundance. Another critisizism is the lack of veggies on the plate if they doubled the amount it would seem more like a meal. We were served with a mini loaf of bread before the entree and it was a winner, came with butter and a head of roasted garlic. The deep fried seafood cake appetizer $9 was also a winner. Quite large in size and accompanied by a nice salad. Strange water glasses as they only held about half the volume of normal glassware. Service was indifferent, none of the servers seem enthusiastic. More hustle, more joy, means more tips. I was there on a Saturday and at about 7ish there was live music by a female singer with a great voice. Return visit not in the stars. Small parking lot but lots of street parking. Restroom A-1.
I have been here a number of times for something to do with "all you can eat". The food is good, get seated fast, and ordering right away. As we are waiting for our food to come, I have noticed that something is always missing and that we have to re order it and then remind the server that we still have not received that item or items. The service is fine, nothing special, not very talkative, I guess because I don't speak the language, or they don't speak English well. Overall it's an okay place just be prepared to wait.
The service at this place is terrible. Will never go back because of the service.....
All the waiters/waitresses there seem to speak Chinese, so if you are not Chinese then you will not get very good service, or so it seems anyways. 7 of us went into the restaurant at 7pm and put our order in 5 minutes later. The waiter that took our order was hardly paying attention to us when we were ordering, as he was to busy talking to new customers as they entered the restaurant. After waiting about 45 minutes one persons order came out. This person waited over 5 minutes to see if any other food was coming out, so that he wasn't the only one eating while everyone else watched. At the 10 minute mark he ate because the food was getting cold. After close to an hour 3 other people received their food. These 3 also did the same thing and finished 3/4 of their food, at which time the rest of the food slowly started to come out of the kitchen. This of course was after complaining numerous times to some other waitress because our waiter would not even look at us. The only time we saw our waiter again was when he came to give us the bill. Oh, and be prepared to receive a lot of attitude from the waitresses if you do complain about the service.
Overall it took up 1.5 hours to get our last dish, so If you got 2 hours to burn for dinner then this is the place for you, but if not I suggest you go somewhere else.
I just don't get it - I always go out of my way to be friendly to people, no matter how crappy my day is going. Took the kids to Aberdeen Centre for some Spring Break fun today, and we stopped for lunch at the Aberdeen Food Court. Haven't been here for a while, so we looked around a bit, and Ajijiman appealed to my son, 'cause he's all about Yakisoba. We should have kept walking - the two women running the front counter looked so sullen and angry - do I really want them preparing food for us? I don't think I've ever met with such grumpy counter service anywhere! I ordered a Chicken Yakisoba for my son, and a Chicken Yaki Udon for myself to share with my daughter. Unfortunately I ended up with a Chicken Udon - maybe they didn't hear me; maybe they didn't care. Whatever. I wasn't about to sit and wait even longer for them to get it right. I also didn't want to stand and watch the two grumpy ladies any longer - wanted to get very far away from them. The udon was okay - three large pieces of chicken, a few mushrooms and a good supply of noodles in a broth that lacked flavour; my daughter liked it, I thought it was okay. My son liked the yakisoba - it had a few slashes of mayonnaise, and a fair number of chicken pieces - my son said it was okay. So - one udon, one yakisoba, and two cans of ice tea came to $20.70. Kind of pricey, considering it was only "okay" and the service sucked. How do people stay in business when they have absolutely no people skills and the food is only passable?
After reading several reviews about this place...decided to try it out with a buddy of mine. Made reservations about an hour and half before our arrival. Read this place can be busy on weekends. Its located in a strip mall close by the Sheraton Hotel. Free parking for 2 hours within or paid parking on the street.
We got there at 1pm. Stepped in ...Hey!! no lineups....even the frontend lady kind of laughed that I made reservations. Sushi bar to the left and private booths to the right. Love this kind of old school set ups! We got seated quickly and the checked out the menu....a very extensive selection of sashami and nigri sushi....some of this stuff you don't see in other Japanese restaurants like horse macherel, amber jack, japanese snapper, salmon belly ,stripped jack,ecetera. Plus the specials that was on a little board in our booth...first thing I noticed....Lobster sashimi...wow...60 bucks!! If you got the bucks...its unreal!!
Anyways, I ordered the lunch box C with contained teriyaki chicken w rice, tempura, 3 pc nigri, 3 c sashimi, sunomono, and miso soup plus 4 pc of nigri namely salmon belly, yellowtail, unagi and toro. My buddy got the 5pc gyoza, spicy tuna roll and curry katsu. The items arrived pretty promptly.
Observation: the lunch box...looking at it...the tray is bigger than the items within..a bit out of proportion. Taste: tempura was light and not greasy, the 3pc nigri (tuna, farm sal and ebi) and 3pc of sashimi (2 farm and 1 tuna) was excellent...fresh as can be and rice was perfect, chicken tekiyaki...very good but only 4 pieces of white meat...sliced to quarter inch thickness??, the sunomono was not even a sunomono...just a one bite garnish. My other 4 pc of nigri was excellent as well. My buddy's selections..good gyoza, okay tuna roll...he thought the tuna minced not chopped and thumbs down on the curry katsu.
The verdict...Im a bit torn...my food was tasty but my buddy...don't think he will be back. Price was a bit expensive for what we got....total was about 60 bucks for lunch !!!!???? A bit much. Another sore point was the lack of service...no tea refills at all. I would come back only if I was in the area and my wallet was just a bit bigger. Lol.
we used to go to Thai son on no3 road , since they closed down, we didn't eat at thai son that much. Until 3 months ago, we went to thaison in richmond location, we found they got the bigger portion, price is ok,
the quality of the food is worse than before, they soup is herb taste. the rice is dry and feel like uncooked.
service is nice. but i can not accept their food any more.
today we went back since a friend invite us to have dinner, when we walk down the stair, we saw 2 guys robbed the lady's wallet at the private stair of thai son, the lady and the kids were crying , we are so scare and would like to help.
for the return customers's safety, i think they need to have more police in this area. I don't think i want to come back, sorry don't want to get a risk for my life
I have been going to Comonas since 2004, and up until recently I have truly enjoyed te place. The soup is excellent and service good. Until recently...
The last three times Ive gone were progressively worse until this last experience which, I'm afraid, will likely be my last.
When the owner is there the food is good, the service is excellent and the place is tidy. When she's not there its a pigstye. I deviated from my usual Spicy Chicken Soup and Turkey and Swiss sandwich twice, and had near unedible fish, then, thinking that was a one-off bad experience, we went back again and I tried the Lamb Special and got a lamb-flavoured blob of fat. The place also was dirty, The cutlery was greasy and I noticed, and there was something that looked like a booger on my spoon. The owner wasnt there, obviously. The last straw came when I showed up after a weekend bicycle ride stop there for my usual beer and a sandwich. The place was filthy, the teenage girls on duty seemed to be in full-on party mode, which I usually dont mind, but when I got my sandwich they had overlooked putting cheese in it and it was slathered in some disgusting sauce. Three strikes - Cimonas is out. I doubt my wife and I or the friends we take there will be back. I hope they read this and get the message. The restaraunt is on a spiral downward to failure if not.
