Food was mediocre as stated.
Service not that good.
Would not speak an ounce of English when though they have Caucasian customers.
Would not take credit cards and wouldn't explain to you why not. Only know how to shake their head and stare at you.
Would not recommend to anybody for any type of occasion.
They should learn how to treat their customers right.
Had dinner here after a few months and again it wowed. Fabulous scallops and pork belly and great steak sousvide. Very creative plating, good value for great food, lovely ambience and wonderful service. Only improvement would be a waterside setting but the parkig is easy and the place is in the middle of the ever so lovely Steveston.
Pretty bad place, I went tonight and the place was flooding from the fake waterfall at the door. MSG is also added to the food. Be careful at this place where the waitress had to ask what was in certain dishes and didn't know. Please be careful! We found that it's basically a tourist spot very, very few locals will eat here. We had to ask them to wipe the table, plus we had to wave to get their attention for service. I was very disappointed.
So this is an American chain? I mean so Americans like very little meat, fatty sauce for a igh price? That it was disappointing is undeniable. There is little meat in these things. Are they even meant for eating? And then it is almost $35 per person without drinks. Did I mention it is saucy and greasy without much meat or taste?
The pasta was alright and the drinks were really good and cheap during lunch time. I really enjoyed the experience until AFTER leaving the restaurant. I paid a 12% tip for the waiter who was nice, but as a group of 4, we didn't have enough change and paid just enough for the food, tax, and 5% tip. The owner chased after us for a block and started demanding more tip for his waiter, saying "the waiter has a wife and 2 kids". I've never experienced this before. I also remembered the owner counting our money before we even left our seats. So unprofessional. Yes, the waiter deserved that extra $2-3 but in my opinion, chasing us for it was extremely uncalled for.
Be warned!!! This has got to be THE WORST restuarant you will ever go to!! I'm not a picky person and don't usually write a review for a place, but the experience we got from here has propelled me to warn others about this place. No one should have to endure the dining experience we got here.
The first thing they ask you when you arrive is if you have a Groupon so they can just skimp on the basics after that. We ordered two bento boxes which we didn't get. Rather, a kitchen staff person, hasitly runs up to your table with a tray full of loose dishes and mishaply throws it as you as he probably has overcooked, oversoaked oil laden tempura he needs to get back to. This place seriously lacks enough waitresses as the only one waitress had her hands full as it looks like the owners are too cheap to hire more help.. After we sorted through the mine field of dishes from our bento boxes, we realized the Mango Roll that was suppose to be a part of the bento box wasn't even there. It finally comes with our other order of a Spicy combo but it wasn't a Mango roll but a California. It took awhile to flag down the waitress about this who seemed confused about it. When she brought it back to the chef at the sushi bar who made it, he seemed even more confused about what he made. So it was brought back slapped with a piece of Mango on top.
In the meantime, we had dishes on our table that were never collected. As the restuarant got more busy, another lady, who seemed to be the manager, showed up to help servie the food but she would walk by and give us no eye contact at the pyramid of dishes left from our "bento" box. It was like if she couldn't see us, we couldn't get her to collect the dishes that was cluttering our table. Such a nice game of "i can't see you, so you can't see me".
We always finish our sushi at any restuarant we go to but the food here was absolutely terrible, we couldn't. How awful to feel like you are forcing yourself to eat something that tasted like grass. We only came here because we purchased a Groupon but boy, we will NEVER come back even if the food was free. This place skimps on everything once they know you have a groupon from limiting what you can order with your groupon, to the service, presentation, and the quality of the food.
We called Groupon to complain about this and were thankfully able to get our money back which at least made us feel better about this terrible experience.
Well what we had was good but I did not know that one could slice halibut so thin! You could practically see through it....chips were good.
I really don't see the value here. If they would give you the normal thickness of halibut then it would be different.
Definitely not worth the drive from Mission.
I think they were trying to mean professional when they came up with the name for this place. Obviously Chinese and not Japanese owned because they are calling themselves Yakuza.
It's average for your own personal hot pot.
It's just the name that bugs me. I keep checking over my shoulder in case some Japanese guy in a red Addidas jumpsuit wants me to go to the kitchen in the back.......
Has been going to this place for a year or so..food is always good thought a tad bit stingy with their condiments, 2 pkt plum sauce for a whole duck!?? Anyways, still go back for the food until today...girl who was cashier/packing for the takeouts, was moping the floor behind the cash area and lifting a large piece of cardboard from the floor, which is soaked with oil, dirt with her bare hands and....leaned it against a tray of freshly cooked soy chickens! I was the 2nd customer in line for takeouts, she then proceed to serve us without washing her hands. I spoke up saying it is damm unhygienic with the cardboard and not washing hands. She proceed to wipe her hands on a damp dishcloth and says...there! it is washed. Both the owner & the wife were sitting just beside, having lunch and none of them speak out. I walked out together with a customer behind me...NEVER EVER going back there again. Ignorance is surely bliss...
We went here three weeks ago for dinner (I meant to post shortly after but forgot). My boyfriend came here for a birthday party before and said it was okay food) His mom wanted to try it so we came with her partner. The four of us sat against the wall. Good view of restaurant surrounding.
When we first walked in, it was a bit odd, your not too sure where to go. We were greeted (we made reservations) so were sat immediately. My bf and I arrived first so we decided to order a drink, I had a strawberry daiquiri! Very good!! We could see that he was making all blended drinks with just a small magic bullet.
Bf's mom and partner joined us shortly after. Our server came at all the right times in the beginning. We ordered our food. Ribs and pulled pork platter for the bf, ribs for the mother, burger for the partner and I ordered the seafood salad (weird right, seafood salad at a rib place)
Our food came out about 25 mins later, My salad was huge and so very good! The bf's ribs were tender, but his pulled pork was cold. Mother's rib and potatoe wedges were good she said and her partner said his burger was good as well.
Our server was busy in her section now, so she didnt come by as often. We wanted to order a second round of drinks but with her not coming by, I walked up to the bar and asked the guy for two more drinks. He brought them over right away.
We wanted dessert but we were soo full. Our server let us know that the bartender was actually the owner. A few recommendations for this place: Train your servers and bussers to say "HI" to all customers who walk in. Acknowledgement is key when trying to bring repeat customers back. Ignorance is a bad trait.
Went here for lunch with the mother in law on a monday. Waited at front to be sat on the patio. We actually had to go in to be sat, which we didnt know, until we saw a group of ladies behind us being sat.
It was a nice sunny day, so great day to be on the patio. We were sat by a gentlemen. (at first we were not impressed that we didnt get any acknowledgement at the front, only a few glares)
He came by to get drinks for us. He said they make the best margaritas. My mother in law said 'double'. I had a ginger guava orange drink (sadly cant remember the name. ) It is my favorite summer cocktail!
We ordered the rustic flatbread and soy drummettes and a side of fries. Ive also had the lobster macaroni here before. Very yummy.
Great ambiance, great view, great food! In the end we found out that our server was the General Manager Colin. He welcomed us back and we definately will be back!!
Went here for a quick lunch as it was recommend by someone at our office. I ordered the lunch special but it was not good. I paid almost $10 for lunch as was not full at all. The quality of food was bad and warmed up in the microwave. Maybe their chips and salsa is are ok. I will not go back. Save your money and go to Ironwood Mall for lunch. Lot of choices there and you could also eat at McDonalds which will better than this Deli
I phoned in at 5:00 pm to reserve a table for 6 people for 7:30 pm. When we arrived, ~7:15 am, there were empty tables available (not reserved), but we had to wait for ~20 minutes until someone actually saw us and led us to the table. By this time, I was EXTREMELY disappointed. After ~5 minutes, then we got the menu and it was thrown on the table! HOW RUDE!!! After waving for someone for another ~5 minutes, finally, a waitress with rude manners came and quickly took our order. After 45 minutes, the first dish came out (chicken in wine)!!!! In chinese restaurants, chicken are usually pre-made and just need to put sauce or quickly heat it again. Why the heck did it took 45 minutes for our chicken to come out. And chicken in wine is a COLD dish!!!!!!! And then afterwards, the next dish came out after half an hour! By that time time, I am already pissed. We asked the waitress why are dishes taking so long, and she said because most people in the restaurant are ordering hot pot foods, and there aren't enough chef to cook entrees for those who are not eating pot pot. OMG!!! What an excuse. The dishes are SMALL for the price they charge. Taste is OK, nothing special. Parking is a NIGHTMARE! We had to park on the street, which cost $$...... I will NOT come here ever again! I do recognize anyone to come here. Food is SO SO, and service is a nightmare. Expect to wait at least ~1 hour for 2 dishes to come out. We ordered 4 dishes and cost about $99.74 (include HST). I gave them $4 tips, which I thought, was generous.
If this restaurant wants to service in this area (this area is filled with good tasting restaurants), then they need to invest on hiring competent servers.
This is our go-to place for sushi, I eat here about once every few weeks. Place is small so recommend go just before opening hour so you are not left standing like an idiot. I have hosted dates here and the fish is great but doesn't burn the pocket. I've tasted better but this is pretty good and enough to impress women
I never bother to write reviews about restautants; but, my experience at the Boathouse in Richmond has me making an exception. Ambience was ok, service was mediocre and as such wouldn't normally warrant the effort required to post a review. The food however was another story. It was god awful. I had the grilled halibut filet with asparagus. The halibut tasted and looked like it was steamed, it was dry and tasteless. The asparagus tasted like fuel. And, at 32.99, it was so over-priced. I told the server the best part of the meal was the bread and the beer. He deducted the asparagus - whoopee! Will never go back
My cute wonderful, slim, gorgeous, sexy blonde GF, went to Earls with me last night. She said it was an authentic atmosphere and felt it was like a modern restaurant she liked. I questioned the waitress about the product fresheness, and she said they almost always go to the market every day to get as many things as possible to ensure fresheness....WOW!
My super sexy blondie girlfriend thought the sushi was close to Japanese quality. I thought it was outstanding sushi (8.5/10) and the wine was amaza-licious. The only downfalls were you almost need your passport to get there (and its in a mall) and it was a little pricey. A wine each, special sushi roll plate, cake and sides came to 82$ with a tip...yikes! But the waitress was super tall and cute. Not quite the usual Richmond prices-OUCH. This place is outstanding and worth checking out.....but according to my scrumptious hot-pop babe (WOOoooow she knows how to slowly and sensuously eat sushi); she thinks it is in second place for the Vancouver sushi experience..... so far.
Had lunch at Tapenade in May with a friend. It was a wonderful lunch.
I noticed that one of the specials was served with Israeli couscous. Didn't want the special but wanted to try the couscous. This was obliged no problem and a beautiful little tasting dish was brought out and we were charged $2.95.
We both had the appetizer fish and chips as a main course and it was delicious-the best i have ever had.
The only little disappointment was as the restaurant prides itself on sourcing local and sustainable food, there was no no dessert made with local rhubarb. Rhubarb is the first fruit of the season and there is certainly a lot growing in Richmond. A fresh rhubarb dessert would have been the perfect end to a lovely meal.
Tapenade doesn't have a water view. If you like to have a view, go for a walk along the river, forget about the restaurants by the river-their food just doesn't measure up, then go to Tapenade. You won't regret it.
Been here a bunch of times. Service and Food is definately 100% when you dont have a groupon.
Prepared to be ignored and treated very unprofessionally when you present your groupon to them. They only give you 1/3 of what is actually on their menu. (meaning you only get a limited selection of what you can order)
We ordered Gyoza to start and had to ask for it twice. It finally came 45 mins after. We were almost already done our meal. To add to that, it wasnt even cooked. We had to ask for tea, and they got two out of four of our items wrong, we then had to send it back to the kitchen, where as the server just giggled 'cause she thought it was so funny'
I would recommend going to this restaurant without a groupon. You will get better service and a vast variety of items to order from their menu.
'And to the restaurant, .......the point of groupon is to promote your restaurant, you should be giving 110% service and satisfaction to get people coming back without the groupon.' You have definately lost us.
This ain't no place for a lady.... which is precisely why every man here is single or pretends to be I guess.
Men can be obnoxious, trashy and crass. Life is too short to go for that. You can expect up to an inch of fallen liquor on the floor after 9pm.
A restaurant near water can have a cathartic and satisfying effect... especially when you are a few ladies looking for a good meet up but this kind of men and the type of women who say yes are just awful.
After reading the reviews, I thought OK - bad service, good food, so I got takeout - Paneer Pakora, Aloo Paratha, Chicken Kashmiri, Lamb Biryani, Eggplant Bhartha, Dal Turka, and Pulao Rice. The paneer pakora was fine, but everything else was spicy (hot) but tasteless. Everything was bright orange/red tandoori colored (NOT the way these dishes are supposed to be).
Usually chicken kashmiri is creamy with yogurt and cashews, theirs is bright red with hardly any nuts and no creaminess. It was done with tandoori spice (guys, not how this dish is supposed to be), and pretty tasteless. The Aloo paratha was just plain boring, the lamb biryani - one of my favorite Indian dishes was just a mess. Another bright orange/red dish (really not everything has to be done with tandoori spices, not matter what the name of the restaurant) that was missing all the usual subtle flavor and spices of a true biryani. Where were the cardamom pods, the cloves? Then there was the Dal Turka, another tasteless mess. I may have had worse dal at some point, but I can't remember when. Then the eggplant bhartha, again all red tandoori spices and tomato - you couldn't even taste eggplant in it.
The service was pretty incompetent. When I phoned in my order, it all had to be repeated 3 times to two different people. It was of course not ready in the time they specified.
I'm mystified how others think the food is so good there (well granted there are very few good Indian restaurants in town), but certainly I will never go back.
